Lovely site

This was my first time caravaning, and I chose burrs park in bury. I was impressed how clean the site was. The staff obviously work hard to maintain excellent standard. On arrival I was greeted with a friendly welcome. I would definitely recommend this site, and shall be attending again. If I had one downside to the site, then it would be that I felt the shop in reception was not well stocked of daily items, even bread milk bacon etc. Apart from that, the site is lovely and therefore had a nice relaxing time. Thank you to the wardens. 😃

Wonderful stay!

We have just spent 4 nights at Burrs, this being our 2nd visit to this site. Have to say that we too are unsure of what to believe with some of the negative comments as we experienced willing, friendly, hardworking, courteous wardens who were friendly, informative and above all very approachable. Ongoing works at the site did not in any way infringe on our stay and in our opinion, all ongoing works will only serve to enhance this site. Fabulous hard standing pitches of good size available to all, some serviced also so catering for those who have their reasons as to why they prefer serviced pitches. Plenty of service area's around the site and with the sweeping roads, you do not feel like you are all parked in a line. I think some (a) pathways would be beneficial from the area at the back of the site nearest the railway to the shower block would be advantageous as it is a bit long winded if in a hurry you need to utilise the toilets, no problem for us as we use our own. Will be back to this site as it is easy to access from all major routes and on the edge of a large town but has a very countryside feel to it. I did not encounter any issues with dogs or their mess whilst on site and wardens are currently putting a little dog exercise area in to try and negate some problems they have had. Wardens cannot be held responsible however for irresponsible dog owners who fail to obey the law.

Dogs and the River

I just read the previous review which mentions reports of dogs being poisoned because of drinking river water. The Environment Agency have said the river water has been tested and there is no evidence of any pollution or poisoning.

Third visit this year

Spent two night here last week and I really don't recognise the site from reading a few reviews on here. We arrived to a warm, friendly yet efficient check in service. As usual we were told about the pitching but also giving information about which pitches were being converted to hard standings and undergoing current work so we could avoid them if we wished. The work didn't interfere with our stay and there was minimal noise. Toilet block was warm, clean and just as we expect from a club site. We love this site because of its location right by the country park with river walks, fishing and a good honest local pub on the doorstep.

Oh. What a shame

Have stayed at this site many times over the years since it opened. At the moment there is no washing machine and seems to have been out of order for months......WHY.....The cleanliness of the facilities could be improved a lot.

Nice site

We have just come back from a few days at Burrs, I’ve read a lot of the reviews about how badly the site was kept and how rude the wardens are, I think we must have gone to a different site, it was clean and well maintained, the wardens was very polite and friendly, we have 5 small dogs and not once did a warden approach us about them. We pitched on one of the new service pitches, plenty space although they could have staggered them from the ones across so you aren’t looking in to someone else’s van, and with hindsight we wouldn’t have pitched up so close to the pub, it was quite noisy all day. Great to see the trains running regularly throughout the day. We will certainly go again.

A nice place to visit, but an unpleasant warden

Don't be put off by the approach to this site ... via a housing estate and industrial area ... because the actual setting of the site when you get to it is beautiful. A cobbled path leads up to it so take it very slowly. The wardens work exceptionally hard to keep the site beautifully maintained and cleaned to a high standard. The site is set right in the country park so beautiful walks are on the doorstep. There are a couple of local pubs which look nice but we didn't try them. As with all CC sites the pitches are well spaced out and maintained and it's lovely to see and hear the steam train go by. We visited Lyme Park while we were there (45 min drive away) and it's well worth a visit. Now for the downside.. we arrived at 7.50pm (latest arrival time 8.00pm) the lady was pleasant but clearly wanted to close for the evening and gave me the pitch barrier fob and took my money and off we went. Granted, the map indicates that they want the van in the middle, car to the left and awning to the right. But this wasn't pointed out to us so we pitched van - awning - car. The next morning a male warden passed to empty the bin and stood with his hands on his hips looking at our van and shaking his head. This prompted us to then (albeit too late) check the map to see we had pitched in the wrong order. We had pitched the way the previous CC site has asked us to pitch just 4 weeks ago in Dorset. My husband went to the site office to apologise and was told to move the awning or leave the site. The lady warden was abrupt and would not discuss. She said we were a fire hazard, despite us being on a corner pitch and 6m away from the next van. She would not discuss it at all and was rude. Such a shame as we have never in 7 years of pitching at CC sites met a rude warden yet. We feel that if they are adamant about such rules they should be stated verbally and clearly upon arrival. People should not be expected to start reading maps and rules at 7.50pm when all we wanted to do was pitch up. So, we undid all of the awning, packed away, and moved the van 2 metres and had to set up all over again. A bit much when we only stayed 3 nights. Whilst we were setting up for the second time our neighbours told us the same had happened to them the day before. Message to Burrs Country Park - please stipulate clearly when customers arrive exactly how you want them to pitch. A sentence or two which would take you one minute, rather than make people take everything down and set up again.

Lazy Dog Owners

We had a meal booked on the East Lancs Railway steam train so stayed at Burrs as it was so handy for travelling into Bury - just a short taxi ride away, cost (3.50). The site itself is fine, good hard standing pitches in a pleasant location. However, there seems to be a particular ongoing problem with irresponsible dog owners. We love dogs and have been dog owners for many years but for some inexplicable reason, people on this site seem to think it's ok to walk their dogs over other people's pitches or let their dogs run loose - the consequence of which was a pile of dog mess we found behind our caravan on Sunday morning (13th Aug). DISGUSTING! - imagine if I hadn't noticed it and walked the mess into our caravan/awning.I cleaned it up and reported it to the wardens who said that is exactly the problem - it really isn't the dogs fault, but the lazy owners who can't be bothered to walk to the site entrance and go through a gate into the Country Park. It isn't fair to blame the wardens (who, they informed me have also been dog owners in the past). Apart from this problem, the site was fine. The Brown Cow pub adjoining was a bit rough and ready but had a good food menu. I would return to this site again.

Perfect Stay

Perfect stay made better by the site staff who were working tirelessly to keep the site clean, tidy and a safe place for us all and children without the fear of having dogs fouling on other people's pitches (so called responsible dog owners should read page 669 in sites directory). Good location for visiting Bury and Manchester, country park ideal for walks with or without a dog. Brown Cow at the site entrance and the Garsdale 10 minutes walk away good for food and a drink. Will be back at Christmas
