Nice site

We have just come back from a few days at Burrs, I’ve read a lot of the reviews about how badly the site was kept and how rude the wardens are, I think we must have gone to a different site, it was clean and well maintained, the wardens was very polite and friendly, we have 5 small dogs and not once did a warden approach us about them. We pitched on one of the new service pitches, plenty space although they could have staggered them from the ones across so you aren’t looking in to someone else’s van, and with hindsight we wouldn’t have pitched up so close to the pub, it was quite noisy all day. Great to see the trains running regularly throughout the day. We will certainly go again.

A nice place to visit, but an unpleasant warden

Don't be put off by the approach to this site ... via a housing estate and industrial area ... because the actual setting of the site when you get to it is beautiful. A cobbled path leads up to it so take it very slowly. The wardens work exceptionally hard to keep the site beautifully maintained and cleaned to a high standard. The site is set right in the country park so beautiful walks are on the doorstep. There are a couple of local pubs which look nice but we didn't try them. As with all CC sites the pitches are well spaced out and maintained and it's lovely to see and hear the steam train go by. We visited Lyme Park while we were there (45 min drive away) and it's well worth a visit. Now for the downside.. we arrived at 7.50pm (latest arrival time 8.00pm) the lady was pleasant but clearly wanted to close for the evening and gave me the pitch barrier fob and took my money and off we went. Granted, the map indicates that they want the van in the middle, car to the left and awning to the right. But this wasn't pointed out to us so we pitched van - awning - car. The next morning a male warden passed to empty the bin and stood with his hands on his hips looking at our van and shaking his head. This prompted us to then (albeit too late) check the map to see we had pitched in the wrong order. We had pitched the way the previous CC site has asked us to pitch just 4 weeks ago in Dorset. My husband went to the site office to apologise and was told to move the awning or leave the site. The lady warden was abrupt and would not discuss. She said we were a fire hazard, despite us being on a corner pitch and 6m away from the next van. She would not discuss it at all and was rude. Such a shame as we have never in 7 years of pitching at CC sites met a rude warden yet. We feel that if they are adamant about such rules they should be stated verbally and clearly upon arrival. People should not be expected to start reading maps and rules at 7.50pm when all we wanted to do was pitch up. So, we undid all of the awning, packed away, and moved the van 2 metres and had to set up all over again. A bit much when we only stayed 3 nights. Whilst we were setting up for the second time our neighbours told us the same had happened to them the day before. Message to Burrs Country Park - please stipulate clearly when customers arrive exactly how you want them to pitch. A sentence or two which would take you one minute, rather than make people take everything down and set up again.

Lazy Dog Owners

We had a meal booked on the East Lancs Railway steam train so stayed at Burrs as it was so handy for travelling into Bury - just a short taxi ride away, cost (3.50). The site itself is fine, good hard standing pitches in a pleasant location. However, there seems to be a particular ongoing problem with irresponsible dog owners. We love dogs and have been dog owners for many years but for some inexplicable reason, people on this site seem to think it's ok to walk their dogs over other people's pitches or let their dogs run loose - the consequence of which was a pile of dog mess we found behind our caravan on Sunday morning (13th Aug). DISGUSTING! - imagine if I hadn't noticed it and walked the mess into our caravan/awning.I cleaned it up and reported it to the wardens who said that is exactly the problem - it really isn't the dogs fault, but the lazy owners who can't be bothered to walk to the site entrance and go through a gate into the Country Park. It isn't fair to blame the wardens (who, they informed me have also been dog owners in the past). Apart from this problem, the site was fine. The Brown Cow pub adjoining was a bit rough and ready but had a good food menu. I would return to this site again.

Perfect Stay

Perfect stay made better by the site staff who were working tirelessly to keep the site clean, tidy and a safe place for us all and children without the fear of having dogs fouling on other people's pitches (so called responsible dog owners should read page 669 in sites directory). Good location for visiting Bury and Manchester, country park ideal for walks with or without a dog. Brown Cow at the site entrance and the Garsdale 10 minutes walk away good for food and a drink. Will be back at Christmas

Nice site, spoiled by rude warden

We love the location of Burrs, but had our stay completely spoiled on this occasion by the rudeness of the dog obsessed warden. Every time we left the caravan we were followed and harassed about our dog and where he might go. As responsible dog owners we clear away our dogs mess thoroughly and dispose of in allocated bins, located outside of the site at Burrs. We were also told our dog could not go on the grass, ridiculous to suggest the state of the grass is due to dogs. The grass near our pitch had muddy tire marks everywhere from gardening machinery used badly. I did use the dog walks off site, but expect my dog to be exercised on site as well. Disgusted, offended and will not return here.

On another note, also not happy that the silver rated wifi, that is paid for and not free, didn't work at all.

Rude warden

We have been coming to this site for the last 3 years and normally have a fabulous time but this is the second visit where the male warden is very rude and like all the other reviews he is obsessed with dogs and there toileting,my advice to him is ,get a dog and tell it where to poo and wee,it's impossible.as for the cleanliness of the toilet block it has slipped a little but I also feel sorry for them having to clean up after the public,I went in one day and there were dirty toilets, empty toilet roll holder just thrown on the floor and tissues, talc, mud and grass was everywhere,I went back to my caravan, one day my niece came to visit in her car and this male warden said to me in these exact words'that car stays here'just like that.one last thing, the washer being out of action for 6 weeks is more than terrible, you take enough money off us for membership surely you can afford a new washer

Not the greatest views I've ever seen - but oh so handy for lovers of Black Pudding

Cracking location for a Club Site. 30 minutes easy walk into Bury (or take a bus / train)and then 30 minutes on a tram into central Manchester - off peak return tram fare £4.00 per adult. Magic. But why go into Manchester when you have Bury Market on the doorstep? Home grown Black Puddings, Rag puddings (never heard of those before) charcoal flavoured Cheddar, whimberry pie and a superb meat / fish market. Walking around the market, traders offering samples of their wares to taste - three laps and that's lunch dealt with. Although you may try a "Spam, black pudding and egg muffin" - heart attack on a plate - but it's just got to be done once in your life. You won't get that in Mickey D's! Oh, and Manchester Tarts - be careful, my sainted old mum warned me about those. East Lancashire Heritage Railway on the doorstep with your very own (almost) station. Hop on and off with hugely discounted tickets - don't forget your membership card on the train. Site facilities were generally clean is the best that can be said. Washing machine AND tumble dryer were out of action for the whole week we were there and the grass was far too long notwithstanding recent rain. There was far more than a few days growth there. Our (hardstanding) pitch, in the downpours that we encountered, became a bit of a quagmire and when mentioned to the wardens provoked a response "Someone else said that". Other pitches were in a similar soggy condition. I note that there is some attempt to rectify the drainage problem with new shingle on some pitches, but currently this is not enough and more needs to be done - and fast. Winter is upon us - and it's only August. Local pub - The Brown Cow - on the doorstep is a noisy local pub. If you don't want a noisy local pub - don't go there. But you'd be missing a varied and reasonable menu at sensible prices with friendly staff and, if you talk to the locals, they will be happy to speak with you. Huge numbers of dogs on site - generally should the Club be introducing a nightly fee for each dog so that the owners pay for any attendant costs? Site needs sprucing up a bit - location is a delight.

What a mess

We have stayed here many times so know how smart the site used to be. Now appart from the new hard standings the whole site was full of dead weeds which are not being removed. The grass was also very long. Despite some very warm sunny days with just a few light showers there was no work being done on the site. During the week we stayed we only saw the warden collecting the rubbish. The cleanliness of the facilities was poor. This is not the high standard we are used to on club sites

Noisy

Good site spoilt by high noise levels from adjacent public fairground/concert venue which finished at 22.00 hrs but with lighting generator running into the early hrs.
