Lovely Site but one or two niggles.

This is our second trip to Burrs .Last time everything was fine. This time, well the following. We had positioned the caravan and were having a cup of tea before tackling the awning. The back of the van was level with the back of the pitch.Because we were erecting the awning i positioned the stake for our little dog 2 feet out from the back of the van.Only ten minutes later a warden came round the back of the van and told us to move it onto the hard standong part.Well, theres no way it would go into the ground there considering the pegs for the awning have to go in with a lump hammer. She said people might trip over it-what that close to our caravan. We noticed she singled out other dog owners for similar issues. Upon setting up we tried to go onto the internet to find out about walks.Nope-ineternet was down.It did come back on but there dont seem to be any repeaters for the far side of the site (close to the railway). To the toilets, the short path on the gents side was cordoned off. The Gents hand dryer was out of action One boiler was down so several showers and washing cubicles were cordoned off so the water would stretch further, Someone had let their dog mess right by the Ladies toilets. All these are rectifiable faults so come on Caravan Club-you have a reputation to uphold!A lot of commercial sites now have the same facilities so beware you dont want your member base jumping ship!

Stunning but needs a few things fixing

We absolutely love this site, the wardens are friendly and keen on rules, however that’s fine. One thing we would say is that a few things need sorting ASAP eg gents hand dryer broken weeks and no paper towels, issue with washing machine, WiFi faulty couple of days, and now one of boilers is broke. Don’t get me wrong we love this site and will continue to visit, it’s just the caravan club needs to invest ( without shutting as given Chatsworth is temp closing the NW needs a good site) x ps remember to feed and WATER the 2 ducks they were so so thirsty 🦆

Oh dear what a shame.

We decided to visit this site after reading a recommendation in a motor home magazine. After a rather difficult 3 hour drive we were pleased to arrive, that is when it all started to go downhill.I made an innocent mistake and pulled through the open barrier and parked up in the "wrong place".Within seconds I had 2 members of staff telling me off !! Anyway, went into reception and booked in. Contrary to some reviewers I found the staff very helpful, to the point of being patronising.Next came the incident which required the rapid response team. As frequent visitors at club sites we followed the normal ritual of taking a drive round the site , to locate a suitable pitch and to quickly use the service point to fill up with water. I soon realised I had a problem - silly me had only packed my shorter water hose, which meant the nearside tap and my offside filling point were not going to meet in the middle!. As a grown adult , who knows all about risk assessments, health and safety, how one way systems work etc, etc I carried out what they call in the trade a dynamic risk assessment, concluding that as there was no one else around, the site was quiet at the time and we needed water for a 3 night stay, yes you have guessed it I only went and carried out a really simple manoeuvre to turn around and proceeded to fill up, only to be accosted by one of the staff I had earlier obviously offended with my parking error. Give a man a yellow vest and god help us. To say he was rude and patronising is enough said, you would think I had driven around the site with my eyes closed at 60 mph. All for basically carrying out a move no more dangerous than parking on your chosen pitch. As for the site itself, I suppose if you like the constant sound of dogs barking and having to make sure you don't step in dog poo in your camping crocs this place is a must. The facilities are not as clean and well kept as other club sites. The walk into Bury town is an adventure through and past loads of litter, people in the shops in town are without doubt very helpful and friendly, including a smashing lady in the ticket office at the tram station, which we used to get into Manchester in about 35 mins on the Saturday.Tried a pint in the pub next to the site - too busy for its own good and rather dirty and the idea of people sitting down to a meal whilst great big dogs walked around inside does not give me an appetite. The railway is a superb facility to access, we had great fun travelling on old steam train at reduced cost as club members, highlight of the stay. In conclusion folks,a site that could deliver loads but fell short for us because of the staffs over the top reaction to a moment of rule breaking, which never put anyone in danger, I understand the need for rules but please use a little common sense and context when reacting.

Clean friendly site, a steam engine persons dream site as train passes about 6 times a day on a weekend. Great to catch train from station

Friendly site, easy to find with sat nav. Easy instructions from friendly wardens. Other half loved the steam train passing regularly. We did catch the train and had a great day wandering around bury market and the transport museum (which was free with your steam train tickets) Facilities are clean warm and well laid out. Site was clean with plenty of room on the pitches and we were able to drive or reverse on so we could get a good view of the trains. Love this site and will be back again

Always Something Interesting

We have stayed at Burrswood a number of times, and it's always a great place to visit. The steam trains are naturally always a talking point, and it's great to see the trains steaming by, with happy passengers waving at you. Now, with the sites own station, it's possible to catch a train in either direction, Rawtenstall, or, Heywood. On our latest visit, we took the Metro into Manchester in order to visit the Museum of Science & Industry, where the Soyuz spacecraft that took Tim Peake to and from the International Space Station in 2016 is on display until May 2018. There really is plenty to see and do, We also managed a couple of the walks around the Burrswood Country Park, plenty of wildlife and interesting sculptures along the way. So, is it worth a visit?, well yes it certainly is, and we will surely be back again before too long.

A fun weekend.

Just spent 3 nights at this site, spring time with howling gales, horizontal snow, freezing temperatures, gusts strong enough to move the van, the grand children loved it ! The run in to the site over the cobbles is a bit rocky but the site is well laid out ,spacious ,clean and the staff are friendly and helpful, The access to the railway is not good for Wheel chair users so we took the car to the end of the line and boarded there, we all enjoyed it .When the weather is good the site will be a pleasure to stay at and we will be back. A great site with easy access to a pub and The East Lancs Railway

Friends recommended the site to us and we were not disappointed. The site and facilities were spotless; always a good sign. The wardens were friendly and helpful. The Brown Cow is approximately 100m from the outer barrier to the site and is well worth visiting for the food and cask ales at reasonable prices. Hot drinks are also keenly priced. The East Lancs Railway runs right past the perimeter fence and Caravan & Motorhome Club members get a two for one deal on roamer tickets - a great deal and a great way of visiting some of the local towns. The bus stop to Bury is not far (approx 15 mins of slow walking), but be warned the buses run only hourly and there is a gap between 2pm and just after 5pm for the last bus. Hopefully, a fuller service will be in place during the summer months. It was windy whilst we were there and we "enjoyed" two inches of snow on the Saturday night. The site looked lovely, but we were leaving Sunday! No problems with the local roads though. Looking forward to returning when there is more sun and less snow.

Another Enjoyable weekend

This is the first time we have tried this site, even though it is less than 90 minutes away from home. The site itself is a little gem, well maintained and if you like trains you have a front row seat for the East Lancs Railway. Bury town centre and market is only a short drive away, or you can get a bus, or train. There is a small dog area on site although you really don't need it as immediately outside the gate you have access to the park where you can exercise you four legged friend(s). Also just outside the gate there is the Brown Cow pub. Good pub grub at reasonable prices....the ale was OK but then I am from Yorkshire!! The only issue we had with this site was the access. We have a large caravan and the access road was OK, even going over the cobbles, but there was some roadworks which did make it a little difficult getting in and out with the van on. Overall this site offered pretty much everything we wanted and needed or our view this is another place we can go so we shall be returning.

Fabulous Wardens

We stayed over during the 'Beast from the East' spell! Huge thank you to the week day and weekend wardens for all their efforts to keep us all comfortable and informed when the local water company decided to work on the water supply meaning there was no mains water during this time! Timing eh?!!! No one suffered and we all survived. Have to say it again - fab wardens and the local Bury people are so friendly.......and the steam trains passing the site are just tremendous!
