Extended visit

We like Burrs as we live abroad and most of our family live around Bury so its an ideal spot to stay with a very good pub just off the site. Our only critisim of this lovely site were a couple of the wardens who seemed far too keen in chasing the holiday makers for very trivial things it was like being told off back in school. However we will visit again most probably next year.

Half term fun

Just returned from a half term family break at the Burrs. Very good weather, lots of open grass areas to enjoy the sun. I agree with the previous reviewer with regards to "some" of the wardens. One in particular very grumpy and unhelpful. My main issue with the Burrs site is that they have extended the overall size of the site but neglected to put in a children's playground, how short sighted of the Club to do this, happy to cater for dogs but not children. Facilities reasonable good. Big improvement now that there is a train station for the East lancs railway. Great fun watching the trains go past.

warden from hell

0 Stars The Caravan Club prides itself on family and pet friendliness. Not this place. The Wardens are terrible. I had a phone call on the Friday we were going to the site. The female warden call me to say that there had been a very bad accident on the motorways leading to the caravan park and traffic was horrendous. She then said to my amazement, that if we were stuck in traffic and got the the site later than 8pm, we would not be allowed onsite??? She told me I would have to go back home to my amazement. The club states very clearly that “If unavoidably delayed, please let the site know if you expect to arrive after 8pm”. We did manage to get to the site on time but was greeted by hundreds of posters all over the site saying don’t let your dog on the grass, dont let them toilet on the road etc. The posters were on every door in the facilities and all over the wardens caravan area. I thought the caravan club were pet friendly? Not these wardens. When you walk you dog around the site you get daggers from the wardens and staff. They dont even try to hide the fact the dont like dogs and the site. Ive been coming to this park for the best part of 10 years now and loved it. I try to be a friendly chap and am polite to all I see on the caravan park but this is just too much. I hear nothing but bad comments from the caravaners on the site about the wardens but the caravan club seem to turn a blind eye on the wardens goings on. I will be calling the caravan club up tomorrow to see what can be done about these grumpy old wardens.

Comment from the Club

Many thanks for your review and we are sorry to read that you did not enjoy your stay. The Site staff have been in touch as they work hard to ensure everyone has a wonderful time whilst saying at Burrs Country Park and would like to explain why they have taken such actions.

The Site Staff always like to let members know if there are any potential problems on the roads to help members plan their journey and avoid any disappointment. As the site does not have a late night arrival area like other Club Sites they would hate to have to turn any guest away at the gate and as such go the extra mile to inform members of any potential hold ups on the way.

Please be assured the Club welcomes dogs on site and we are pleased we can offer members dog friendly holidays. With regards to the signs, the site staff have put these up following some recent unfortunate incidents but these signs are for members information and not to discourage dogs on site.

We hope this clears up any confusion.

nice site but

lovely site very friendly wardens we enjoyed the peace and quiet even though it was may bank hols, the only down sides is that it could do with a few more hedges in between pitches to act as a windbreak it was very windy . the other thing is the horrendous tow through bury and the even worse road to the site rough tarmac road leading onto even worse cobbles had scrambled eggs for tea , would like to return again but not while the road is that bad , by the way this was our first visit here

Excellent site

This isn't second time here. The main wardens are very friendly and helpful indeed. The site is maintained to an excellent standard both around the site and the facility block. Looking forward to seeing you all again later in the year. If I had any suggestions it would be : Have a second dog area near the top rows of pitch 83 onwards. And have a doggy bag bin at this end of the site. Thank you warden for another great visit over the end of May bank holiday 2018. I. G. Bolton.

Two weeks in Bury

Just back from two very pleasant weeks at Burrs Country Park, Bury. The wardens gave a great friendly welcome and intro to the site. Plenty of great day trips out and visited amongst other things, The East Lancs Railway, Bury Market, Martin Mere bird reserve, Malham Cove and the waterfall, Gawthorpe Hall at Padiham and MOSI at Manchester. Like another reviewer we experienced the 'alternative caravaners', who leave a mess wherever they go and it was great to see the additional security rapidly arranged. Bury is an ideal spot to stay a while, as there is so much to see and do within an hour or so's drive. We will return to find some more treasures in this part of Lancashire and as a died in the wool steam fan the East Lancs Railway is a big draw.

A very pleasant stay.

I arrived at Burrs Country Park site for my first visit on 9th May and was met by a very warm and friendly welcome. The approach to the site might have you wondering what you've let yourself in for, the road into the country park is atrocious with many potholes, however, and most important, once you are through the site barrier you enter familiar club territory. The site is not huge but you don't feel cramped with open vistas over towards the East Lancs Railway and the Country Park itself. As we all expect the site is maintained to the usual high standard with no complaints. During my stay the Flying Scotsman was visiting the East Lancs which was a bonus, however an event at the Country Park was very loud for most of the Saturday of my stay. But the event was in aid of the local hospice so I was willing to put up with a noisy day and the event drew to a close at around 3pm. Check upcoming events at the country park before booking would be my advise. Would I stay again?, absolutely yes.

All fixed

I have commented previously that the site facilities needed attention as too many items were out of action for a caravan club site. We have just had a lovely weekend at Burrs and pleased to say everything had been repaired and they even had extra security on the gate due to some 'uninvited caravaners' in a field further up the approach road- a thoughtful touch and no problems.

Return visit

We’ve had another lovely. 4 nights here over the Bank holiday. Love the site. We had lovely weather which enabled us to do a couple of cracking walks - to Rawtenstall and from Clough Head around the reservoirs and taking in the Rossendale path. Ladies toilets not the cleanest due to a flooded toilet. We also had some rather noisy neighbours who did not follow the quiet by 11pm. The pub and park were crowded given the lovely weather but the did not affect our visit in the slightest. Only negative is that there’s no late night arrival although there is space. The 8pm arrival is strictly followed so do not be disappointed. We were ok - just!! Please wardens can you keep control over noise. This is a lovely sight, just a little noisy. We will return. .

Caravan club reputation

Wardens at this site like to enforce the rules - and there's nothing wrong with that, dogs off leads roaming around ,members speeding and pitching incorrectly was all put right by these guys ,ten out of ten.The none serviceability of quite a few things is however inexcusable we all paid the increase in club fees this year ! Another member has mentioned the passage to the gents wash room was cordoned off due to an electric cable across the walkway, the only hand dryer in the gents was unserviceable for at least 4 days and possibly longer, pitches were out due to electrical problems and then the wash room boiler failed so 50% of showers unavailable. These failures to rectify faults are not down to the wardens but the Caravan Club and it's not really fair to members considering the cost to stay on these sites. Private sites can call people out and rectify problems very quickly - standards are falling and fees are rising ! This site should be spot on considering where it is located with the heritage railway etc and it should be one of the jewels in the caravan clubs crown.
