I have to say that I was a little dubious about booking this site. I knew it had a cracking little location and if you like steam trains then you won't be disappointed. although having read previous reviews I had images of rude and unhelpful wardens and site staff, but this could not be further from the truth.
my only real moan is that on arrival at the first barrier the press button is on the left, being on my own it was a little bit of a faff to have to get out to press it (so not a massive issue really).
On entering the office to see what pitches were free I was greeted by a lovely and friendly lady who was very helpful. I managed to pitch backing onto the railway line, so had a fantastic view of the trains that ran until about 21:30.
I noticed the site staff regularly cleaning the site and its service points. All the staff were very pleasant and said hello when they passed. The toilets were clean and to the usual standard from a club site.
Just outside the site is a little pub. It was very reasonably priced and did good basic food. Your also welcome to take your dog in. I did notice that the pub was busy so it may be worthwhile reserving a table if you want to eat. The East Lancashire Railway also now has a small station next to the site.
I will be returning to this site.
Summer Holiday
Used Burrs as a stop for our tour to Scotland on way up and way back down. Lovely site and clean. On way back down we were pitched near exit. We parked about 10 inches from peg, the warden asked if we were putting up an awing which we were and said it was ok even though we were going to move it closer to the peg The next day we were in the process of putting up our gazebo as it was raining and wanted to cook outside. The other male warden was watching us and told us that we couldn't put it up because it was 10 inches on the grass! He then moaned at a dog walker as he thought the lead was too long, to me it wasn't. Think the wardens need to retire as they have no people skills whatsoever.
A pleasant surprise
We came to Burrs from 16th - 19th August because we wanted a site fairly close to family in Wigan - it fitted in with an event we were going to. We had two of our grandchildren and the dog with us. I worked in Bury for several years but did not know much about the area so was surprised to see a country park so close to the town centre. As motorhome owners we like to be close to some amenities and we all enjoyed our walk to the market and had a Thai/English meal an excellent café there - Thai Corner. On the Friday evening we booked at the Brown Cow, a very traditional pub, and we had an excellent good value meal. I recommend the steak. The railway was an added bonus and as it was Sci-Fi weekend we had a lovely day travelling up and down the line from the station next to the site. We enjoyed several walks in the country park with the dog - the site Is dog friendly and has a small walk area that is handy at night. The wardens quite rightly ask you not to allow your dogs to pee on their fence because their living area would become unbearable with the smell. This is no hardship to responsible dog owners. My dog is quite happy to wait until he is off site. The toilet blocks were the best maintained that I have seen. I saw no broken tiles or doors locked without people in. I thought the whole site was very well run, with pleasant wardens and excellent information provided. We would like to come again and visit the various places along the railway for walks.
Very grateful
We were stuck on the motorway and still a long way from the campsite we had booked to stay at that night on the way back from Scotland. We decided to look for a club site closest to us as had been in the car all day. Rang Burrs Country Park and not only did we get a pitch but they rang the other site to let them know what had happened. Lovely site and pitch. Fantastic staff.
5 Day stay,Pricey, and not a dog friendly site
Recent Stay for 5 Days at this site
my overall rating is based on yet again not friendly wardens ( Caravan Club Site Police)and the state of the shower block which is in need of re tiling as most shower cubicles suffer from broken tiles.
I visited the the toilet block at 6 am in need to be surprised all cubicles taken, actually 3 were locked out of use, same as some shower cubicles, both myself and another camper who arrived not impressed at all, ?? state at 9 am nightmare
Apart from that the site location is fine, with the local pub friendly service.
a lot of very close shops take away's and superstore shopping on the doorstep.
We had a serviced pitch not by choice, as would have preferred only electric.
Slight smell from the site grey waste soil outlet, but as this was at the rear of our outfit did not penetrate into caravan.
Would stay here again if absolutely nothing else in area was available.
Camped here after a week stay in Devon at Zeacombe House where you the very friendly owners do everything to welcome you and your family
The approach road is cobbled and as long as you drive carefully and slow presents no problem..
The local railway is nice to see and hear the steam locos which it uses

WAS my favourite local site
This used to be my favourite weekend getaway site, 30 mins up the road and i`ve been going regularly for the past 10yrs, but i won`t be returning until the current set of wardens have moved on ! They are the most unhelpful, unfriendly and unwelcoming wardens i have ever encountered.
Every question/request seemed to be too much trouble, huffing and puffing, we also witnessed other members being berated for really minor indiscretions. Dog owners are made to feel especially unwelcome due to the endless unofficial anti dog notices all over the site . Fortunately we have built up a good list of local CL`s for our weekends so the loss of this site from our list won`t be too hard to take, but hopefully not for too long.
Super Location
Super Location with lots of walks from the site, an old pub next to the site and a train station on the East Lancs Historic Railway. Please note though if hoping to watch the Steam Trains go by from the site, they don't run on Mondays or Tuesdays.
We didn't bother with Manchester or Bury as we live quite close, the main reason for our stay was to take our new puppy in our Motorhome. We have always said how much people enjoy their dogs while on site nut felt that the number of notices all around this site aimed at dog owners left us feeling a little that the wardens don't really like dogs. We've never noticed signs before but then again have never taken a dog. Our dog was well behaved and we didn't have a problem so no worries. A lovely peaceful site in a very interesting locatoin.
What a little gem
If you have a dog that likes to run off lead & swim in a nice clean river then this is a great place to visit. Lovely well spaced huge pitches, Burrs Country Park next door, steam trains running along the East Lancs Railway & a pub just outside the entrance, what more could you want? Staff very friendly & happy to allow us a late check out. Definitely come again.

Pity about approach road
Approach road is terrible, about a third of a mile of cobbles . Even driving slowly I thought the van was going to shake apart. .
Site itself is very nice with every pitch having a decent view , site facilities a bit tired but clean.
Nice small dog run , we seat wouldn’t go amiss.
Enjoyable Stay
Wanted to check out later on the Sunday and I was disappointed to have to pay another nights site fees when there were approx 40 spaces available when we left at 7pm. I understand there are rules, but surely a late checkout fee is more appropriate than a full charge? The warden did say i could stay until 2 pm but unfortunately I wanted to leave later.
Moaning over, I really liked this site. The facilities are in the center of the site so within easy reach for everyone. A really nice pub at the entrance to the site which gets busy if its a hot day, but even though our caravan was close to it we never heard any noise in the evening. Love the location and its pretty easy to get in to Manchester via the tram from Bury. The steam train is a pleasant distraction on the occasions it stops next to the site.
