Nice stay here on a recent weekend. Great location but also handy for a trip to Manchester. Went there on the Saturday for a concert. £4.00 taxi (using number recommended by the wardens) or 45 minute walk to tram Station in Bury.
When we were there it looked like there were too many serviced pitches. The other pitch types were full but lots of empty serviced ones.
On the pitch we were on we had to route our hook up cable under the van to reach the electric point which was some distance away, after being told off for joining it with our short lead at first. We realised afterwards this was specifically in the site info so assume it's a common issue so maybe club needs to spend some money on the standard pitches. The gravel was looking very tired on a lot of those pitches
Excellent service from the wardens.
Burrs is a very popular site particularly when a steam engine event is on. My husband and I have just visited over such a weekend and it was extremely busy. Due to my husband having an anxiety issue we moved pitch 3 times. The lady warden could not have been more understanding despite it being time for her to finish for the day. She dealt with the situation with kindness and diplomacy and I cannot thank her enough. We had a lovely weekend after a traumatic start, and have just arrived home feeling calm and relaxed.
What a lovely site!
As a new member I am reading some negative comments about this site so obviously I need to visit more club sites to get a comparison but I thought this was a great site. Spotless, great facilities. Amazing views and local history and sitting outside with my glass of wine catching up on my emails to the sound of the steam train choo chooing past was unexpected, even had a wave at everyone waving at us so it was a lovely experience indeed. Loved how they had a booth we could walk into to see lots of information on the local area, even a plaque explaining what animals would be about and flowers that were blooming, books to borrow etc. Will definitely be back for a longer stay. Staff were wonderful.
Tired
Another enjoyable stay in my old home town, site is starting to look a little tired and obvious that the cleaning time in the facilities has been cut back
Also appears to be more signs appearing DO NOT OR PLEASE DONT.
Warden was very pleasant until things went wrong but then a little brusque to say the least.
After all said I will go back my grand parents worked in the mill near to where the site is situated.
A really lovely hidden treasure of a site.
When you are pitched up on this lovely site it’s hard to believe you are so near the centre of Bury. Tucked away in lovely countryside it is peaceful yet very near to shops, pubs and restaurants. Dog walking possibilities here are excellent as it is right next door to Burrs Country Park where they can run free. The East Lancs Steam Railway runs alongside the site and the station is 5 minutes walk away. The journey up to Rawtenstall is a delight and CAMC members get a 2 for 1 discount. Pitches are huge - yes they are all hardstanding as this is an all year site but there is grass alongside each one. It is an attractive site with picturesque views. The lady warden we met was really friendly, welcoming and helpful. The information room comtains loads of local i formation. The ladies shower and toilet facilities need some updating but everywhere was immaculately clean and the grounds are very well kept. We loved the site and will definitely return to explore more of this beautiful area. Wifi and phone signals excellent.
WALKING SHOES ON/LEAVE THE CAR!
Stayed here as a convenience to an event I was attending - but extended my stay as really liked it. The juxaposition of urban life and the West Pennine hills was interesting. I have a dog - and love to walk. For three days I took off on walks from the site - not needing the car. On days when I got the car out - just a few miles - and I could access the moors and quite remote landscapes. You can also travel out by train and [if you wanted to] walk back - or visa versa. The East Lancs railway runs behind the site - with a station adjacent.
Just outside the site is a great coffee shop - The Lampost - cooked breakfasts; lunches [homemade soups are delicious]; wonderful homemade cakes cooked within a mile of the site; and homemade doggy cakes!! Wonderful coffee also.
The site was clean; well maintained - and the staff very helpful and welcoming. And as the site is plonk in Burrs Country Park - you have immediate access to dog walk areas - there's the river and fishing lakes - I thought it was a really nice spot and I had a really relaxing and interesting stay. I'll certainly return for more exploring.
What a sorry contrast to our previous site.
Not the Caravan and Motorhome standard we expect. Lots of ptiches were sadly lacking gravel so awnings would be placed on mud, loads of weeds on most pitches except the most recently gravelled, even those were getting weeds in. The grass when we arrived was about 4 inches high and then when cut it wasn't picked up so trod in everywhere. Great wet lumps of grass cuttings were left to go black on top in the rain, what a mess, Clearly the wardens do not like dogs as signs up all over the place about not letting your dog pee here , here and all over. The dog walk which was quite small had 4 inch high grass too .Shower , toilets and privacy cubicles were shut off clearly to cut down on cleaning for the wardens, not what we pay our membership and site fees for, especially when on several occasions the men were waiting for a toilet and ladies for a shower, just not on. We will not be returning to this site .

Big tick from me!
I second Jack's review. Been here twice, 3rd visit booked as stopover for couple of days on way to NEC show next month. Great location with excellent wardens. My only gripe is with fellow female visitors who have no idea how to clean up after themselves in the showers. Wish they would just stay at home in their own mess. Back to business - friendly locals and excellent transport nearby for venturing further afield. Thank you.
Flying Scotsman, City of Wells and Witherslack Hall, steam engine delight.
2nd visit of the year and this one specifically booked as the Flying Scotsman was a visitor to the East Lancs railway. Service pitch booked so wife could be as near to the tracks as humanly possible and was not disappointed.
Now, done with the anorak, lets clear up some issue's.
I have never in all my visits to this site had any cause to complain about the attitude of the wardens and find them amongst the most welcoming on the network. Maybe it's a case of treat as you find!
The facilities were clean and tidy and in full use at need of use day and night. I did not see any broken tiles however the radiator in the ladies is unsightly according to the wife and this is just an observation and a slight spoil which I am sure will be dealt with.
I am bewildered at the need to blame the site for the access road which it isn't responsible for, yes, it is cobbled and not Silverstone quality tarmac but to me it add's to the ambience and environment of the site. Bones will shake if you have a lead foot, back off and it's fine.
See you next year Burr's. I hope the moaning minnies are not on site when I am!

What a load of dogs
Well as always you get moans from dog owners, as you can see from previous reviews, we have just spent two days and nights here, and my only complains are, inconsiderate dog owners, letting their dogs bark or yap or whatever they want to call it,incessantly, on a site this big there seems to always be at least one dog doing this at any one time, also there is a short lead rule clearly posted at the reception area, and probably in the welcome pack. Why do some dog owners think this dosnt apply to them.
I appologise to all dogs because I LOVE YOU but i cant stand inconsiderate or ignorant dog owners.
