Convenient for Manchester Events

A bit awkward for those approaching from the South as it is in the North of Manchester. Otherwise not too difficult via the Motorway links. Quite a long cobbled bone-jarring approach. An open site with no hedging, giving the look of a car park. A good adjacent park for dog walkers or joggers. Serviced pitch was dry with gravel even in heavy rain. My reason for this site was simply to attend an event in Manchester. There is a bus stop some distance from the site, but due to the bad and cold weather, preferred to use the car and pay the £11 NCP charge at Manchester Central.

WALKING SHOES ON/LEAVE THE CAR!

Liked that lots of great doggy walks directly from the site; and very easy access to West Penines for some great walking. Lovely cafe just outside the site gates called the Lampost - cooked Lancashire Breakfast - yummy. Facilities spotless. Site quiet even when full. East Lancashrie Steam railway running immediate behind site - and there is a station just outside the site. Only a 20 minute walk into Bury - to the famous market - or go by train!

Excellent site with one of the best warden couples we have ever experienced

In mid March with howling winds and pouring rain we had an excellent break made so much the better by the available facilities and the friendly and helpful wardens. Lots to do in an area that you wouldn't immediately think of as a 'holiday' area. We've been once before and will definitely be back. Having the steam trains running alongside the site also make this a special location.

Excellent for railway buffs!

This is my third visit to the site, mainly due to its proximity to the East Lancs. Railway - there is a small halt about 5 minutes walk from the site! Another lovely visit made especially pleasant by the warm welcome and friendliness of all of the staff who were extremely helpful and a credit to the Club. Due to heavy traffic and possible delays, I called ahead and warden explained that it wouldn't be a problem as long as no later than 2000 (it wasn't!), They also warned that if really late, not to park up in the Country Park car park overnight as may get clamped by local council parking officers! Will be back, thanks.

Lots to like

Our second visit, unseasonably warm unlike the last time when the taps froze! It's difficult to think of anything negative to say. The wardens were friendly the pitch fine and the toilets fantastically clean. It's on the edge of a country park. To add to this there's a pub next door serving decent enough food. And with the steam trains running past the site I am sure that some won't want to go further. Its a decent walk (40 minutes) but quite do-able. I'm sure we'll be back.

CLUB STANDARDS

Reading other previous reviews it seems that the majority of caravanners agree with each other. The toilet block is in need of renovation, the pitches have grass growing on them, nothing a bit of weed killer wouldn't put right. The white posts put up to stop people driving on the grass are in need of a paint and re erecting, most are knocked over or laid on the grass. The fencing and woodwork need a paint, look like they haven't been done for a while. Not much the wardens can do but drivers are driving far too fast round the site where children are playing out, not that we have any children ourselves, this is an issue on quite a few site. We have 2 dogs and to exercise them you have to pass the wardens caravan to go offsite. Their dog was barking whenever you went past when it saw my dog, not good if people want peace and quiet, and on my previous visit i was asked to stop my dogs barking as someone had complained. We like to visit Bury market and this is the nearest site, i feel that this site only gets the numbers because of the market and the novelty attraction of the steam trains passing by the site, other than that i feel their numbers would be greatly reduced. Come on Caravan Club lets keep the standards as good as they can be, this is why people join your club because of what they expect from you.

Beware of the 'younger' wardens.

Booked three nights for the Caravan & Motorhome show. Allocated pitch 27, returned to site on third night and found others on our pitch. They would not move as they had been told by the 'younger' wardens that we would be leaving the next day. "Younger' lady warden threw the rule book at us, saying we should have left something on the pitch. There was no way she was ever going to see our point of view, despite the fact that we were in possession of the gate pass for pitch 27. We were told to find another pitch. Both the 'younger' wardens were the total opposite to the 'older' site wardens who were extremely helpful and courteous. Chalk and cheese.

A regular site for us

Second time this year as its handy for a short break and the location is the best with a decent pub outside the gate and great walks inBurrs Country Park. However I did wonder why the hosepipe has disappeared from the Motorhome service point. . So no hosepipes at all and this is the only site that we visit where this has happened. Only a small point but it does make it difficult and can’t be very expensive to replace It.

Standards are dropping

Its about 3 years since we stayed at Burrs and oh my goodness standards have dropped!! This is no longer Club standard. The ladies toilets - there is a hand dryer above the radiator (possible design fault) the radiator is rusty and not just a little!! in one of the cubicles the hairdryer has been taped up!! A small thing in between cubicles dirt is starting to grow on the floor and between wash basins etc - deep clean required. My husband advised there were broken tiles in the gents. The older pitches are showing signs of wear, compared to the newer pitches. Price £142.00 5 nights this is too much for the standards. I will be taking this further. The club have wasted the members money on re-branding, when they should be looking at rusty radiators etc. The site is a great location and the wardens were nice. But the club must keep up the standards. We had already booked to return in June for an event, when we hope these problems have been rectified.
