We arrived for 12 as usually do when visiting Burrs without thinking admission times may have changed due to the Covid situation so had to park up along Woodhill Road as the whole of Burrs Country Park was heaving being a Sunday. Not a problem, we had a walk with the dog and then made our way onto site. We were welcomed by a friendly, approachable warden who explained everything about current covid safety on site. She was a delight and under present circumstances with such strict rules to adhere to, didn't let that get in the way of a bit of humour and time to chat. We have visited Burrs many times now, have always liked the layout, the pitch sizes are great and facilities looked after diligently. The site was very quiet, time of year maybe or Covid.......perfect for those of us who want / need a change of scenery without taking unnecessary risks to ourselves or others. We will be back ( if we are spared) next season.
The site was lovely and clean. Very friendly and warm staff. During this period of Covid 19, whilst I fully appreciate the rules of social distancing and that we should use our own toilet and showers facilities on board, I did feel 2 toilets and 2 showers on this site was sometimes a little tricky.
Perhaps a new shower, toilet and wash station would be very gratefully received on this site.
We stayed here for a weekend at the end of July. The lady in Reception was a little gem with a sense of humour (not the usual, in a good way as she was a breath of fresh air) and 2 male wardens we spoke to were also very helpful as our elcetric cable wasn't long enough to reach so they allowed us to turn the caravan around which ended up much better as we had more privacy.
It was very busy and not many pitches to choose from. The band system in place seemed to work well.
It is in a lovely country park with plenty of space and a nice walk.
We didn't have any problems with the access road (as mentioned in other reviews), it was busy but plenty of room.
Shopping centre close by.
Would definitely recommend.
Firstly I've reviewed this site in the past but felt I needed to do a new one.
Had a great 9night stay from Bank Holiday weekend. Lovely friendly welcome form wardens who worked hard to keep things Covid safe. Cleaning toilet/shower facilities twice a day & regular checks around the site each day. Grass did need cutting when we first arrived but once the busy weekend was over it was done. It was also nice to see the steam trains running.....Now the reason for the updated review. Firstly 2 of my biggest bug bares. 1: cutting through pitches!😡 Why when there is a major pandemic on do people think it's ok to cut through pitches? It's not ok in normal times as it's just damn right rude but to blatantly walk past people's doors for the sake of a few yards in this day & age is out of order. 2: Letting pets stop to do their business on pitches. There's a suitable dog walk & an enormous park outside the gates, use them!! Lastly speed! Far too many people speed around the site. Come on people get a grip!!
We booked Burrs as it was part of our route south and we had not stayed before. we had no great expectations but soon realised we had found a little gem. The setting beside the country park is ideal. unfortunately we had neither the time nor the weather to explore as much as we would like.
We love this site, we would like to recommend the chip shop that the wardens recommended they delivered to the site barrier, the fish and chips were excellent and delivered exactly the time we requested.
This site is excellent with a steam train passing your pitch every hour or so on the weekend can't fault it.
The wardens worked hard to keep the site in top condition with extra cleaning of the toilets and showers we think the reduced access to the toilets and showers work well especially when other sites don't even have them open at all.
My only gripe is to fellow campers letting their dog do their business behind our van on the grass and not picking it up after them I am sure they would be complaining if their kids had fallen in it.
Stayed here for bank holiday weekend the site was full and they only had 2 out of 7 toilets open which were usually out of toilet paper! I understand the restrictions due to Covid but they could have easily had 4 toilets open especially when the site is full we have stayed on smaller caravan club sites and they manage to have more toilets open it makes you think it’s to make the wardens job easier if they only have 2 toilets to clean
Friendly check in ladies at reception until I realised I had forgot to take my credit card in to pay “ did I not think I would have to pay” . Whalen driving round choosing a pitch was stopped by a very rude man doing some strumming and instead of just politely asking us to do 5 miles an hour( we weren’t even out of first gear on an automatic) he sarcastically said in a nasty tone Silverstone is a 136 miles that way if you want to do that speed. Grass needs cutting didn’t see anyone cutting grass the 3 days we where there. I know due to COVID there are reduced faculties, only 2 people allowed in at a time for showers and toilet therefore having to wait for someone to finish a shower to use the loo. Only 2 out of the
Many toilets where open, only cleaned once a day and everyone on site had to use the same 2 toilets with only one open sink to wash hands. This may be the standard at all sites but doesn’t seem hygienic to me if no increased Cleaning is taking place. The site itself is nice just don’t think the wardens are reading their reviews. PS I don’t normally feel the need to write a bad reviews.
After a very friendly welcome at reception things went downhill.
Pitches are thin on gravel and thick on weeds. Busy weekend so not much choice, chose pitch 36 which is supposed to be a "with awning" pitch. Parked exactly to the marker as usual and put up our small driveaway air porch. Just as last peg going in a very officious man drove up on his tractor and told us to take it down as it was 12 inches on the grass. No pleasantries and didn't even bother to get off the tractor. Very rude and such a contrast to the lovely lady in reception.
I do see the point of separation but it would be impossible on that pitch to park correctly and have an awning. Leaving early as not enjoyable with attitude of male member of staff. To add insult there are other people with awnings or cars over grass so obviously just us not allowed!
Yet again another fantastic visit with the added benefit that the steam trains are again running.
Before I start the review about the site I am going to talk about the wardens! I found them very attentive and welcoming. The site is well maintained and extra covid precautions are in place. I don’t understand why they get such bad press in some reviews (and have never really understood this).
On arrival I booked in with the very pleasant female warden and throughout my stay spoke to all the staff off and on, who were very pleasant and chatty. They walk the site every day to see if everyone is ok and regularly empty the bins etc.
Being a solo caravan owner (discounting my cat that comes along) it is a little inconvenient for me as the key fob on the first barrier is passenger side. This is easily resolved as reception have extension sticks so no need to leave the car.
The Brown cow seems to shut at 9pm so after this time their is very little noise.
The steam trains are running again so if you pitch near the track you get a fab view.
Some site pitches could do with new gravel but during my stay we had very heavy rain. The site coped well with this and seemed to drain quickly.
This site is still in my top 5 and I really enjoy coming here.
