Maiden Voyage
We sought a site within a 90-minute drive from home. We wanted to be close to interesting places to visit. And a site that had good facilities and had received good reviews from club members.
It was a special trip; it was the maiden voyage for our new caravan and tow car. Before, we had toured in a motorhome but changed to a caravan. We wanted more comfort and the ability to explore.
Burford was within the desired distance from home. And is accessible by several different routes. This was important. As the first time out, we wanted a stress free journey on roads sympathetic to caravan towing. The way we chose was the wrong one. We arrived via the north, which caught us in traffic, looking to visit the Cotswold Wildlife Park. No-fault of the site, a consequence of a sunny day, school holidays and staycation. Still, it did add 40 minutes to the journey. And the frustration that there would have been zero delays if we had taken the southern route via Lechlade.
Arrival check-in and pitch selection were all straightforward. Being novices, we may have parked too close to the kids play area - but it wasn't very noisy at all. There was plenty of distance between ourselves and the pitches on either side of us. We liked our spot as it felt more wooded.
Water and waste services were not far away and about midpoint to the toilets and showers. The paths were adequately lit at night too. Although, I did take a wrong turn on the first night and mistakenly took a moonlit tour of the site. More an issue of the large Captain Morgan's that had been consumed than anything else.
Overall our maiden voyage couldn't have been better.
