A wave is worth everything.

Our third visit and the welcome was still as warm as the first. The site is a great place to relax and is beautifully maintained. What made the visit special this time was a wonderful gesture from staff as we set off for a trip out. A simple wave and a genuine smile.

We liked it so much...we went back 7 days later on the way home for more!

Easy to find and access site which is DIRECTLY opposite Cotswolds Wildlife Park (A great day out). The site is laid out like many others. It is mainly open with a clear one way system in place. The pitches were reasonably flat and service points are spread out very well. The playground was great and relatively large. The service block was clean and well maintained. The usual wrist band system in place for C19 and it seemed to work well. There is so much to do in the area that we easily filled 4 days and we have it on our list to return to do more. Very pleased we chose this site. The staff were helpful and friendly and always stopped to chat if we stumbled across them on the site. Thank you for a pleasant couple of stays!

Lovely little site in the cotswolds

I had a lovely overnight stay last week and I'm quite surprised to see these reviews. The site is great, very clean, the covid rules work well in the toilet blocks. There was a fish and chip van as it was Friday, what a great idea if you didn't want to drive into town. We were met at the entrance by a very friendly chatty man who told us all about the site and the area, I checked in at reception and the woman there was very friendly too. I enjoyed the stay , the only downside I would say was the distance from the town, we initially thought we would walk into Burford but the road is too busy so we got a taxi which was recommended by the site warden. Bit pricey at £12 but worth it to go into Burford for a nice meal. I would definitely stay here again.

Late summer break at Burford

Having seen the other reviews regarding the wardens we were on our guard. However, we did not suffer as those reviewers had. I think people should realise the wardens have a difficult time in these troubled COVID-19 times, dealing with our demands and needs. They are putting themselves in the firing line, meeting dozens of strangers day in day out, whilst trying to enforce and abide by all the extra rules and regulations. We all need to be mindful of each other’s circumstances, treat others as you would like to be treated yourself, and we can’t go far wrong. The site is clean and tidy, not over big with a mixture of pitch types, we chose a serviced pitch which made using our own facilities easy. Although, our first night was on a standard pitch and the wardens were helpful with our early morning change. On the whole the weather was Great which always helps when caravanning. The Cotswolds seemed very busy, which can cause issues with social distancing, precautions were often necessary and taken, but this is what we have to do now isn’t it! We have been here before several years ago and I’m sure we will return sometime in the future.

Disappointed

We have had cause to complain to the caravan club for the first time in over 40 years of membership about this site. The outfit on one side was off the pitch marker and so close to us it constituted a fire hazard and broke social distancing. The motor home on the other side felt the need to park the wrong way round so they could sit in the sun with his door facing ours so again breeching social distancing. People were walking through the caravans onto other peoples pitches to get to service points and whilst leaving early on our last day at 7 o clock we observed a person walking her dog through the caravans whcih cocked its leg on someones cable reel. We have been to Burford before and not had problems but we will not be back .

Unfortunately not returning.

The site was nice and clean. With small shop and Pizza van ( Sat) and fish and chips(Fri). Location very good to visit Burford (pretty village), Stow on the Wold, the Slaughters and Bibury. Also the Wildlife park across the road. The downside were The wardens. We found them the most unhelpful and unfriendly we met in any other Caravan Club site. Our daughter with a 1 year old arrived 3 days later than us and all we asked was that she could pitch the tent next to our pitch (which was closed - probably for Covid reasons). It would be so much easier to have us next door. But the warden did not want to agree until the very moment she arrived - a power game. Also every time they talk to you, you feel in the headmaster's office. Not pleasant. This is the reason we will not return - there are plenty other sites more accommodating.

Room for improvement

We arrived on the site 6th September, to be met by a rather brusque lady. After registering at reception, we were told to "go find a vacant pitch" I know that this is the normal process for this club but this really does need to be reviewed, especially during busy periods. We drove around the one way site, frantically looking for a hard standing pitch. There were other arrivals behind us, so the pressure was on. We were towing a caravan and the site, whist individual pitches are a decent size, every inch has been utilised and therefore missing a pitch and reversing would be a difficult option. We found a space, grass unfortunately but all that was available, as far as we could see. That 20 minutes of pitch hunting was more stressful than any other part of the journey. The pitch was not ideal for us, though classed as the "Standard" pitch. The site is compact with a small open space in the middle. The Facilities were clean but I did not see any play area but as I don't have children, I wasn't really looking. The surrounding area is lovely and we did a walking tour of Oxford. We had a good break but could have been better, had there been more organisation on arrival. The arrival process will make us think twice about visiting this clubs sites in future.

Good base for touring - a pleasant week

Spent seven nights on this site. While we were there it was full yet quiet and peaceful. Surrounded by trees; some pitches have partial or full shade. Can do 3 or 4 walks from site if you are prepared to do approximately 20 minutes on road walking before reaching footpath/tracks. Traffic can be frequent and fast. Much better to do a short drive, 3 - 7 miles, to one of the nearby pictureque villages and walk from there. Gives much greater variety of walks. Mobile phones behave strangely. Messages such as No SIM card appear or no internet even when data is turned on. We do not have club WiFi so rely on phone for calls and data connection. Strength of phone signal wildly variable and data connection intermittent. Occasional aircraft noise from planes leaving/returning to Brize Norton. We didn't find this disturbing. It is a 2 mile drive to Burford, an ancient market town, here there are independent shops , cafes, hotels and pubs; ancient houses and church. Unfortunately we could not visit the latter as closed due to government Covid restrictions. The Village Chippy visits the site on Fridays 5 -7pm and Wood Fired Pizza comes on Saturdays. A good base for getting to know the Cotswolds.

Good all round site

We loved staying at this site and listening to the lions roaring at night (they’re over the road in the wildlife park). Friendly staff, clean site - great!

Burford short break

We have just returned for a 3 night stay at the Burford site,(our 1st visit here) The site is clean and tidy with very good Covid Precautions which are clearly marked out. The wardens are helpful and and maintain a very good standard on site. The pitches are spacious and tidy with plenty or room. Good dog walking on and off the site, the site has 2 good walking areas.(Jasper the Jack Russell had a whale of a time) During our stay the local Fish and Chip shop van visited the site which turned out to be very good value for money and excellent food. Good local area with some lovely villages to visit. We have been very impressed with this site that we have booked a 7 night stay for 2021. 10 out of 10 well done to the wardens for an excellent site.
