Excellent location for Cotswold Animal Park

This was our first visit here, and our first post-Covid trip. We used our on-board facilities as much as we could, but I felt very safe when I used the site block. I was a little concerned about road noise when I first arrived but it was incredibly quiet after the evening. The site is fairly open, but there are plenty of trees and hedges blocking the road. The real bonus is how close it is to Cotswold Animal park. We walked across the road and it was directly opposite. Amazing place, and the reason for our trip. We heard wolves howl one night, which was amazing. Lovely mobile fish and chips van on Friday night and a wood fired pizza oven van on the Saturday night.

1st trip to Burford and 1st Post Covid trip

This site is very well cared for and the arrival procedure was well thought out and felt very safe, pitches are well marked out and spacious. There is a new design of electric bollard on some on the pitches which requires the trip to be reset after connecting. This is a great idea for safety however, there is no indication which trip belongs to which socket so each time a new guest arrived our electric would invariably be turned off and on several times as they attempted to find the right one. Some simple labeling would ensure this didn't happen. If someone is away from their caravan for the day their fridges could have been turned off all day! There were lots of hand sanitiser points on the main toilet block which was great however, the separate service points had none available which was very surprising due to the large volume of people using them. On arrival there was an information sheet given out with directions to ensure social distancing and outlining the Covid Secure policy of the club however some members were not following these which spoiled the feeling of safety for others. Children and adults were walking through pitches to get to service points and the toilet blocks and were not just on the grass but also on the gravel of our pitch several times. Indeed one of them nearly walked into our open caravan window when trying to avoid our washing airer which was on the gravel!!!!!!!! There were groups of young people riding their bikes up and down the steps and path of the toilet block but as the wardens were not as visible as we are used to due to keeping themselves safe no one was preventing this. They were not small children but teenagers who knew they should not be doing it as when a warden did walk past they got off. Another safety issue was people not parking correctly to the pitch marker despite wardens giving this information on arrival. However, they were not asked to move for the entire week we were there by the wardens. We have seen this rule being enforced on other sites and felt it should have been done here too. This is a fire risk and also negates the social distancing measures. A bit of a moan I know but it is mostly down to the selfishness and refusal to think of others of some members. Rules are for everyone NOT just those who choose to obey them. There is some noise on site due to the locality of an RAF base which may put some people off however you get a fantastic view of low flying aircraft which we enjoyed spotting and this was only in the daytime. A mobile fish and chip van and pizza oven visit this site. We would visit the site again and hope people will begin to follow the regulations.

Another great stay at Burford and thanks to the to the wardens who made it that way

Another great stay at Burford and thanks mainly to the Wardens who kept the site spotlessly clean and the toilet and shower facilities despite covid 19 restrictions were mainly adhered to. A good peaceful site near to some excellent cycling country lanes and great village pubs. The checking in was effortless and the cooperation of the warden was exemplary. although this site is quite near to home it was a very good start to seeing what sites were like during the pandemic.

First time on a CAMC site

We loved the site. Beautifully maintained. Check in covid secure with lovely staff. We used our own facilities. Good base to tour Cotswolds. Only one point. This was our first time on a CAMC site . We put the hook up into the electric and we had no power in our caravan, we spent ages checking all our fuses, the lead, connections etc. Finally went to see a warden who told me you have to twist the hook up to the right until it clicks. This then activates.the electric. No one told us on entry and no indication on electric tower that you had to twist it to the right. Stickers should be in the towers to let people know as we had not encountered this before after many years of caravaning.

One of the Best

Another wonderful stay at this site started with a warm welcome from the wardens who keep the place spotless yet always have time for a chat. Stayed on a very spacious serviced pitch surrounded by grass and trees. Immaculate washrooms that were virtually empty on most visits, probably different in the school holidays. Excellent playground for the kids and right next door to the Cotswolds wildlife Park. Also handy for Burford, Lechlade and all village gems of the Cotswolds especially Bourton-on-the-Water with Birdland, car museum and model village. Already booked our next visit.

A warm welcome makes all the difference

We've been touring continually for the last 18 months and in that time have been met with various scenarios on check in. We're pleased to say that at this site we were met with a very warm welcome and smiley face by Assistant warden Penny Jessop. It makes all the difference and started off our stay on a very positive note. The site itself is in a fairly good location for touring the local area, the pitches were level and of a good size, the site was clean and tidy and the facilities were kept very clean too. The only negative (or it could be a positive if you love planes) was a lot of noise during the week with air traffic from the nearby Brize Norton... the other noise we heard especially during the evenings was from the nearby (across the road) wildlife park … in the still of night you could often hear a roar from one of the big cats which was lovely. On leaving we were waved off by Mr & Mrs Jessop and the site warden... thank you for a lovely stay.

Lovely Cotswold Site.

We have stayed at the Burford CMC site several times now, and its one of our favourites. Easy to find, with a wide access, there are no narrow lanes to tow down to reach it. The booking in process was quick with friendly staff greeting us with a smile. Having stayed before, we knew where everything was, so didn't need the introduction talk. The grass piches, like many sites, are taken out of use at the end of the year, but there were plenty of hardstands for us to choose from during our October visit. The loo block was immaculate, with all the usual CMC facilities although we didn't use the showers, preferring to use the one in our caravan. Cleaning of the loo block was done in the afternoon, which we felt was a sensible time, as we were usually off site then. Reception has the essentials if you run out, but there is a small Co-op in Burfords main street, and a Morrisons and Asda (with cheap fuel) in nearby Carterton. Opposite the site is the Cotswold Wildlife Park, with discounted tickets available from reception (cash only) There is a car park in the centre Burford, but it can get very busy and I would think only suitable for cars, very small motorhomes or camper vans. It involves going down some narrow streets to get to it off the main thoroughfare. Near the car park is the magnificent St John the Baptist Church. Well worth a visit, and attached to the church is a lovely cafe that does excellent meals and drinks with a garden bordering the river. We have enjoyed several meals there, and they have all been excellent. There are plenty of pubs and other places to eat and drink nearby as well as the usual assortment of antique shops and other rather pricey independant shops. There are many other lovely places to visit in the Cotswolds, too many to mention here, but as NT members, Hidcote Garden is one of our favourites. The gardens are beautiful at any time of the year. We shall be back next spring, to this lovely site.

Regular Customer

We love this site and return many times a year. Although you can get a discount at reception for visiting the Cotswold Wildlife Park (just over the road from the entrance), we have taken out a Season Ticket. BTW they allow dogs, which has proved very successful for them eg a keeper told me income is up by over 35%. Why don't more Zoos follow its a winner? The site is well managed and up to the normal high standards of a flagship C&MH site - no complaints and you will not be disappointed. My only request is please consider opening all year round - I'm sure you would get the footfall to justify this - after all, the Wildlife Park is open all year plus Burford is only 2 miles up the road and has Motorhome parking (if you know where to look) and draws a lot of people over the Xmas period.

Great site - friendly helpful staff, excellent clean facilities

We were novice caravanners in our first week with a van and staff were helpful and friendly. Facilities spotless and very good - modern and spacious. We used both the visiting pizza and fish and chip vans and both were really good, and good value too.

Disappointing visit

Very disappointed as we drove onto the site as grass was very long and hard standings badly needed weeding. Rain could not be used as excuse as we live very local to site and we had not experienced abnormal rainfall in previous weeks. Another downside was that the toilet annexe was kept closed for the whole week as the warden had decided that the site was not busy enough to open it, (me thinks so that they did not have to clean it) resulting in that at least 3 morning the women had to queue for showers. This has never happened in the 10 years that we have been using the site. Also the dog bin had been removed from outside the toilet block which left dog owners disposing of dog poo in general dustbins. There was a noticeable lack of warden activity on site while we were there but hopefully next season will see a new set of wardens who care as most of them have done in the past.
