We love this site just had two stays here in the last couple weeks on the way up and back to Morvich the warden's are great very friendly but not intrusive the site looks lovely all the flowers make it special look forward to next stay
Just back from a week at Bunree. We arrived early and got a fabulous loch side site. The scenery is out of this world. Watching the tall ships etc. float past on their way towards the Caledonian Canal is a sight to behold. One criticism is that one morning the boiler was obviously on the blink. Would have been nice for an "out of order" sign to be placed, rather than realising too late there was no hot water. My husband fortunately spotted people working on the problem so didnt end up naked and freezing in the shower as I did!!! One huge recommendation - eat at the Laroch in Ballachuilish (10 mins. drive) - avoid Loch Leven Hotel!!!. Laroch is simply divine with lovely friendly hosts - could not fault it and went twice in the week we visited. Loved the Ben Nevis Gondolas, Jacobite Steam Train, Glen Coe and all the numerous walks we undertook. Lovely serene relaxing holiday and we even got some sunshine!!! Definitely will return. Sara and Lewis Walker
First off - amazing site, great wardens, friendly welcome and stay.
Couple of hints though - like many CC sites not great signage from the road and the post code takes you down a single track one along from the site - whixh handily has the equivalent of a roundabout at the end - if you want a front row on the loch view then dont book a pitch for an awning, as relegated to second row onwards and finally if you chose to park on the higher back row pitches they are actually a bit tight lengthwise - my 575 coachman was pretty much as far back as it could go and the towhitch wasn't that far off the road and ps theres a small stream runs at the back so if its wet putting down your rear steadies take care or get wet......having said all that will return
Great site excellent Wardens couldn'the ask for more helpfull people.views mind boggling...Only down side was some people have no manners it's nice to be nice. So if someone says good morning at least nod your head..especially when a warden who have the sole purpose of making your stay memorable. Other wise fantastic.
If you want a holiday in the Highlands of Scotland then this is one of the ideal spots to visit. With the UK's highest mountain just 10 miles away you can cycle to it, climb it, cycle back to rest the weary muscles. Lots of bikes about when we were there but not being used all that much, nice to see people being keen though. Glencoe is just down the road, go over the bridge where the old ferry used to be or take a trip round the head of the Loch, Glencoe is magnificent and lots of parking places to view the panorama's. You can chill-out in this place. Lovely walk at glen Nevis but be prepared for a bit of slippery pathway. The camp site is so good with lovely vistas and a great café/restaurant close by if you want a fish supper or WHY. I recommend this place to stay .
I've been going to Scotland on holiday since I was 10 years old in my parents Tourer but we never stayed on this site. The site we used to stop on was across the small river at the side of the campsite with similar stunning views.
35 years on and I’m now taking my family to Scotland and my parents are stopping in a cottage. We love the area and stayed on site for a week in July. The first thing to say is don't make any plans until you get up there. In our 7 day stay it rained for 5 days and it turned out to be one of the wettest July's ever (Just our luck with temperatures at home being in the 30's). If you are looking for guaranteed sun then Scotland’s not for you. If you want adventure and stunning views then this is the place to stay.
The site arrival is via traffic lights and down a narrow single track that opens up into a spacious reception point. We have a twin axle swift being pulled by a Mercedes Viano so if we can get down the track then anyone can. The reception is small but adequate with a few essentials in case you have forgotten anything. The pitches are standard gravel pitches and some of the pitches require 25m+ electric hook up cables. There are plenty of water and waste water points around the site and the amenity block is large, clean and warm. There is also a small games room in the block with a pool table.
There is plenty of open space however the wardens are strict about dogs being walked on the specific dog walking spot. This can prove very difficult when the tide has come in and the footpath is under water so some common sense needs to be applied.
Everyone on site was very friendly with fellow travellers regularly stopping and chatting. In the week we stayed, there were very few children so our 9 year old played on her scooter going round the site. There are many speed bumps around site so vehicles aren't speeding which makes it very safe for children. There is also a play area with slides and climbing frame for children to use.
The views are absolutely stunning and you have many walks within a few minutes’ drive of the site with different levels from the novice to the experienced.
Fort William is just 10 miles away with a large Morrison’s for doing a weekly shop as well as the usual tourist shops and mills. A 10 minute drive in the other direction to Ballachulish you have a Co-op for any essentials.
If I was going to give any tips it would be this. If you are travelling from the south through Glasgow take the Sterling road to the site unless you are travelling overnight. The reason for this is the road up the side of Loch Lomond is very narrow in places and if you are towing and come up against a bus then you’re in trouble. At night when it’s dark you can see the headlights coming the other way which gives you time to prepare for oncoming traffic. If you don't fancy Russian Roulette then stick with the Sterling Road.
Have a great time.
We have just had a 3 week tour of Scotland and stayed at some lovely sites. I think we saved the very best till last at Bunree. The view across Loch Linnhe is fabulous. the site is kept immaculate. the site managers very welcoming and informative about local area. Also, the plots are nicely spaced out that everyone has a good view of the Loch and mountains. Cannot find fault
Originally booked as a one nighter en route to Highlands tour, stayed on as the sight was so welcoming, even when we turned up late, tired and wet after the long haul up from Dover. With a pitch on the shores of the Loch, and equally welcoming of my 6 dogs the site amenities were exceptional and the peace and quite so restful. The staff were helpful and friendly, it was like visiting friends!
Superb! Management are a credit - so welcoming and happy to help with local information. The only downside is that we only stayed 2 nights before moving on to North Ledaig (not so good!). We loved the site and our 7 year old daughter has made us promise to visit again - I can't wait! Thank you.
