A nice location by the beach

We felt this site was an ideal location although the bridge you need to cross to get to the site is narrow it is fine if you take it slowly. We were surprised that the Club hadn't contacted those who had booked at the time we stayed to alert members that the access road following the bridge was being dug up at the time for a new water main to say that it was tight was an understatement. With only boards across holes and barriers quite close as you passed, plus the workmen were continually having to move diggers and vehicles for us to pass! We decided to leave before 7 am on our day of departure in order to be away before the workmen started. Overall a nice site and peaceful - would we stay there again probably not because of the access and the thought of your caravan being hit by a stray golf ball!

Broken Window

i have to point out that some of the pitches are alongside the 12th hole of Brora golf club and there is a risk of your caravan being hit by a stray golf ball as we found out. A golf ball hit the front side window of our 3 month old Bailey Cadiz leaving a hole the size of a fist in the outer skin of the double glazed unit.We are claiming on insurance but may have to pay £200 excess. Have been informed by insurance company that they will only try to retrieve this money if they can prove negligence against the golfer responsible, and that could be hard to prove.Total cost of repair is over £400.

Beautiful Brora

This was our second visit and already planning the 3rd. Staff were very friendly and welcoming. The homemade scones were a treat. The local fish van comes on a Wednesday morning and the fish was delicious. Walking over the golf course to a beautiful sandy beach is an added bonus.

Perfect site and surroundings

Second visit to this wonderful site near Brora. Site nice and peaceful, friendly owners, facilities good and spotlessly clean and the area is lovely to explore. Great eating places in Brora, including the Indian restaurant, and dog friendly pubs. Excellent fish and chips at Helmsdale too. Lots of good walks, a lovely long stretch of beach and plenty to see in this lovely area. We will no doubt be back for our third visit soon.

highland Adventure

Spent a few days th Brora on our little Highland Adventure. The wardens were very welcoming and informative. Had a very nice bike run on a quiet back road just alonng from the site. Also a very good walk in to Brora itself along the golf course. In Brora we found an excellent coffee shop for a snack and a lovely small Coop for any required provisions. Will definitely return.

Fifth or Sixth visit and will return again

Our yearly and sometimes more often visit to Brora. As reported earlier the signage is not great, the Dalcharm road avoids the tight bridge but does take you over the railway with a risk of bottoming and via a twisty single track road with no passing places - fine if nothing coming in opposite way. Site itself - Fantastic warm welcome from the wardens that were stellar in their duties - plus friendly and ready for a chat - great attention to detail - watched them weeding as they went about other duties. Toilet block - immaculate but is starting to show its age. Wifi - useless unless you are next to the hotspot - why (like a number of Scottish sites) are there no signal repeaters, especially on sites that are so busy such as this one. This brings us to the NC500 - oversold and now becoming a motorway on a single track road - downside for the sites around it are that many are now becoming one night stopovers - great if that suits you, but does mean the ambiance of the site is changing with less members staying for 5 days or more and therefore less social interaction. It also means if you want a longer booking get in early as some sites are showing as full for one or two nights in a week limiting availability to book for a longer stretch. From the site easy access to likes of Dornoch, Wick, Tain, Lairg(awesome tweed shop), plenty walks in the area Brora has an increasing number of local shops/cafes and a well stocked Coop. Clynleish Distillery always worth a visit, though the Old Pultney tour in Wick is highly recommended Brora beach is just miles of sand with binoculars needed to see anyone - fantastic

Beautiful Brora

A lovely site conveniently situated for the beach and golf course next door. Food available to non- members of the golf club. It is within walking distance of the village with all that entails. Clynelish distillery is also in walking distance. My only minor criticism concerns the spacing between lines of pitches at the top end of site. This resulted in quite tight passageway for larger outfits.

Great site but access issues for larger outfits

We visited this site in September 2018 on the way north on our journey around the NC500. Having read the caravan club directions we were looking for a Caravan Club sign just after Brora, however we missed the turn as there is a brown ‘generic’ caravan and camping sign and a sign for Green Park camping which is another private site nearby. We carried on , then realising that that must be where it was. Further ahead there was a lay-by which enabled us to turn around. We returned to the original turning and entered the road, ready for the narrow bridge which we had read about. However on entering the bridge which realised it was just too tight for us. We are a wider van at 8 ft across and 8.13 meters long and you enter the bridge from a left hand turn. There was no way we were crossing whilst hitched up without causing damage. I took the van off the back, moved the car and took the van across on the mover. Hitched again. We carried on the short distance to site. The wardens were lovely and the site itself is fantastic with access to a wonderful beach. We discovered during our stay that there was another way off site via Dalchalm which the club directions say to ignore. This means crossing a railway crossing which has a sign saying risk of ‘bottoming out’ however having weighed up the pros and cons I decided to take the Dalchalm route rather than face the bridge again. We left departed from site and crossed the crossing without difficulty and our van does have a very low spare wheel carrier on it. I have since learned that the reason folk are discouraged from using the Dalchalm route may be political as the residents of the few houses along the road don’t like caravans using the road and have on occasions allowed the white painted stones to move closer to the enge of the road to discourage the road being used. This is a fantastic site and if you are a smaller outfit, then it’s great place to be. But if you are a larger outfit, there is only one route to take. Dalchalm.

Comment from the Club:

Many thanks for your review and we are so pleased you found the site fantastic and the staff friendly. We are sorry you had difficulties accessing the site. I have forwarded your feedback to the Regional Manager regarding the signage and we will see if this can be improved in the future. Unfortunately the bridge is narrow and we do make members aware of this. Thank you again for your review and we hope you come back to Brora again soon.

Beautiful Brora

Approaching over the narrow bridge - which is not a problem when taken with care - Brora presents as a delightful site, set just 200 metres from a glorious beach which extends over a mile when the tide is right. Stephanie and I liked the site layout, with pools of pitches, many surrounding the green, affording a variety of options for those wanting to be adjacent to the facilities, and those who value a degree of privacy. The facilities will in time need updating, but are more than adequate for a site of this size. Everywhere is spotlessly maintained by the helpful wardens (I have to say that I did not recognise any of the negative observations made recently but on that topic, members should recognise that smaller sites with only one pair of wardens cannot offer the level of customer attention that is possible with multiple wardens). Take the centre gate or adjacent stiles to access the golf course that lies between the site and the beach, from which the walk to Brora village takes about 30 minutes along a grass path above the dunes. There you will find the well equipped Co-Operative store and further, a super bakery/ice cream shop. Walking the adjacent village road to cross the A9, step out to the Clynelish distillery for a tasting. Whilst there, do try the locally made chocolates - they are delicious.

Warden

We visit this site most summers,as we have relatives in the village. On our arrival we were met by the warden who proceeded to ignore us. As we found a pitch to our liking. The warden came over and proceeded to spit out all the rules and regulations, that as he was well aware we knew. Because he knew we were members of the caravan and camping club. And I’m afraid our days of looking like party animals are far behind us. We usually go back around October but won’t this year. I think the warden is getting a bit old for the job. A smile costs nothing. John.
