As new members to the Club, this was also our first Club stay. All I can say is that we were very impressed with the site, its facilities, and the genuine hospitality of the staff. It was a great location for touring on our bikes, with a fantastic ride up Glen Loth across to fell running in the hills behind Brora. The beach, well, it is stunning, and we were also able to safely outdoor swim with wet suits, but to be honest did not need them. It is also a great location for getting to John O' Groats.
Great site with fantastic walking. We stayed in October with some lovely weather and the beach is glorious to walk along into Town whatever the weather. If I had had a wetsuit would have joined some others in swimming! The wardens are really helpful and the site easy to find.
Other reviewers have accurately described the first class features of this site: great location, accessible beach, well managed pitches, clean facilities and superb wardens. Here are a few extra tips. 1. Clynelish Distillery: walk through the village, cross the A9 and straight ahead to the distillery for a tour, tasting, or a special purchase. Beyond are delightful road walks - left to Brora village or ahead to the Brora lakes. 2. Sam’s Spice in Brora - it’s rated no 2 for curry in Scotland and we agree. 3. Don’t just book for a single night at this site: it is worth more than a passing visit.
What a fantastic little site stayed only 1 night on the way to the top of Scotland . So quiet and great walk over the golf course to the beach . Village has all provisions so you can fill up fridge. The wardens are so friendly and helpful
We stayed 2 nights at this lovely site. It is a small, peaceful site, kept spotless by the wardens and very pretty with the hanging baskets and other flower creations (loved the flowers on the tree stumps). We got up early both mornings to watch the sun rise from the beach. We walked into Brora once via the beach and the other via the road which was about a mile and half. We caught the bus from Brora into Golspie and this cost £10.20 for two of us return journey. The timetables at the bus stop are incorrect so look online for the timetable (Stagecoach service). They run approximately every hour. We did the Big Burn waterfall which was a lovely walk through the woods, sturdy footwear needed as quite muddy in places. We caught the bus back from Golspie and asked the bus driver if he could drop us off at the distillery junction, which he did, otherwise you have to get off in Brora and walk back to site. All in all a really nice stay on our continuing NC500 route.
Stayed here for 3 nights in August 2019 on our way home from John O'Groats.
A well laid out site at the edge of the golf course. Most of the pitches around the site perimeter are hardstanding while those in the centre are grass. Most of the pitches are level and are of a good size.
Facilities are to the usual club standard. Only downside was the water pressure in the showers was a bit on the low side compared to others we have stayed on but that is out of the site's control.
A short walk across the golf course takes you onto the amazing beach and you are able to walk into Brora along it. There is a well stocked coop in the centre of the village as well as a number of other craft type shops and an ice cream parlour selling the locally made ice cream.
Golspie is about 8 miles down the road which seems to have a few more shops and an excellent fish and chip restaurant From here we did the Big Burn walk and also a walk around Loch Fleet.
Although not a large site, it is quite busy with people coming and going all of the time.
One thing to beware is the access to the site is over a narrow railway bridge and I'm not sure if some of the newer wider caravans would be able to access it.
Stayed here in August for 6 nights. Lovely small site. Facilities are as you would expect from a Club site. Few minutes walk across the golf course and you are on a beautiful beach. It’s a nice walk into Brora along here. You can come back along the sand dunes by the golf course. Lots of campervans stay doing the North Coast 500. Very laid back. We climbed Ben Bhraggie, walked round the grounds of Dunrobin Castle at Golspie, Big Burn Walk and ate lots of Brora ice cream. It’s made in Brora, but there is a parlour in Golspie also. There is a coop in the village and also another on Golspie. There isn’t a play area for children but this wasn’t really an issue for ours. We had a great stay and it’s a good base to explore further North.
Returning to Brora is a pleasure. Wonderful quiet beach and wee back roads to cycle. Plenty of attractions nearby and a handy Coop in the village. The access bridge is always manageable for us slowly, with care, so don't be put off.
Been here many times. We usually use CLs but this site is definitely as good as it gets. The site is very close to the golf course but any damage which is caused by golf balls is the responsibility of the golfers Insurance. I am a golfer and have played the course often. In my opinion it is one of the very best links courses in Scotland.
We also have a dog and the location is ideal with access to fantastic walks and the beach is great and deserted.
Will be back
This is a peaceful and quiet site bordering a golf course, which you can walk across to an excellent sandy beach with plenty of wildlife.
The access to the site is tight, more so due to ongoing roadworks, but presumably they won't go on too long.
Friendly enough site, though they did seem a bit grumpy when I was asking about the voltage post power cut. Coincidentally my fridge stopped working and the screen was showing less than 200v. I was only trying to work out the problem not blaming anyone. Anyway spotlessly clean facilities as per normal at CC sites.
Unfortunately prior to Brora we had stayed at the beautiful Bunree hence the views and general area were not anything like we had experienced there. That said it is very peaceful and beautiful area in its own way, just more gentle. Locally there is a couple of petrol stations close by, in Brora there is a good Coop, the The Sutherland Inn was a very good place to eat in (Book first) as was the more expensive but equally good Royal Marine Hotel. The Trawler Inn in Golspie was also good.
Taking the back routes north to the Thurso area is rewarding though John O'Groats was less inspiring. Wick has a large Tescos and as a town was probably worth a visit but time was not in our favour. Inverness is a good hour / hour and a half away, the whale watching there was a large no show and the town was OK at best.
Would we return …. no probably not because we prefer the Western Highlands, but we are glad we did try Brora.
