Hidden gem!

Tucked away at the bottom of derwent water, it nestles amongst the trees and backs onto the duck board walk across to the lodore hotel.  Great spot, easy access for dog walks and to the lake and the launch.  Little bus into Keswick eases the return journey after a day's walking/shopping! Great for dogs, unspoilt lakes with easy access to walks n the fells.  Grange is small but lovely for a potter.  Loved it! Wardens v helpful too.

Lovely

My wife and I had a twelve day stay on the lakeside pitch close to the lake. We were blessed with good weather and the scenery and walks were superb. The staff were very helpful and friendly. There is so much to do to suit all ages. Recommend the local saugages with a glass of wine on the waters edge. Locals were very warm and informative and we made some new friends. What more could you want. Geoff and Fran.

Fabulous place.

Came here as a base for starting the Coast to Coast walk. Beautiful location right next to Derwent Water. Wonderful place, secluded and peaceful but handy for Keswick. Very friendly and helpful staff. Check directions to site before you go, the sat nav route is no good for caravans.

A beautiful spot

We have just returned from six nights at this site.  It's location is amazing. Very close to the shores of Derwent Water and with lovely walks directly from the site.  The site itself is clean and well maintained and the wardens are really pleasant and helpful. There are no on site facilities (other than the office and small shop) or wifi, which wasn't a problem at all for us - in fact something of a bonus, but some may find that difficult. We had a pitch which let plenty of sun in, but there are one or two which seemed quite dark at certain times of the day, as the trees are fairly close set, so I would think picking your spot carefully is quite important. As has already been said the road down from Keswick is not brilliant, and getting through Grange can be something of a feat on busy bank holiday periods. However, we have a fairly big outfit, (Unicorn Valencia, towed by a Nissan D22 pickup) and we managed without hitting anyone, anything or each other, so it is manageable with care.  The gate into the site is rather narrow and on quite a tight turn. It could really do with widening as it would improve access no end and there is room to do this. We had a magical six days here, a lovely pitch, lovely neighbours, friendly wardens, stunning scenery and great weather to boot. We could quite easily not have turned the engine on the truck for the whole week (provisions willing) as there is so much to do. We hired a rowing boat one afternoon, walked up to Keswick another day, walked over to Mary Mount for lunch and dinner and just idled away in the sun.  A lovely holiday, we didn't want to leave and will certainly be back. Oh a tip for avoiding traffic when you leave. We left just before 8am and hardly met another vehicle until Keswick. Much less stressful than our journey in!

Excellent weekend

Just back from a lovely relaxing long weekend.  No facilities but managed fine. We were on pitch 41 which was close to water and waste and near to the back gate . Yes the drive in from Grange could be a bit tight but we managed no problems.  The walk out of the back gate was a lovely stroll 20 min across fields and bridges to the Lodore and Mary Mount Hotels, both serving real ales and food. We walked into Keswick from the site and it was all by the lake side. Can't wait for our next trip to the lakes and will use this site. Can recommend the Dog and Gun and Bank Tavern in Keswick for their Goulash and Lamb shoulder respectively and quality ales

A very beautiful site

We loved our stay here, we were in amongst the trees which was very pretty. A good place to base yourself for exploring the area. The double hump bridge (Grange Bridge) was interesting, as we are just over 8 feet wide, on the approach to the site. We would definitely stay again.

Great Location

Our first time staying on this site but won't be our last. We love Borrowdale and this site gives you good access to plenty of walks and activities. For motorhome owners who don't want to drive there are public transport options both up the main valley road but also right outside the site, especially good value if you are lucky enough to have a bus pass. Also the Derwent Launch makes another great way to create a round trip with a walk in one direction. We were lucky with the weather despite a poor forecast and enjoyed some stunning views of the snowcapped tops. A lot of the pitches are surrounded by trees but a short walk to the lakeside will reward you with lovely views.  The lack of facilities was not a problem for us, you just need to be aware in advance. My only complaint is that the red squirrels proved to be very shy and we were not lucky enough to see one despite the evidence of their presence all around us. Hoping for better luck next time!

Great site!!

We spent a few a couple of days at this site great for walking and our dog's loved it. The wardens are lovely and very welcoming. The only thing for me that it lacks is still shower block. We will definitely return. ??

Great location

Great location for walking.  You could do a weeks worth of walks from the site without needing the car.  You can also easily walk to the main Borrowdale rd for the frequent bus service which runs between keswick and Seatoller for more options.  No toilet/shower facilities which is fine for me.  Some of the awning pitches look like they'd be too small for a car, caravan and awning?  Wardens are very friendly and were helpful when I was having caravan problems.

Peace and tranquility

This was our second consecutive Easter visit with totally contrasting weather situations but this did in no way reduce our enjoyment. Bad weather this year and traffic problems were not the fault of the site, indeed our peace was in a strange way probably enhanced being able to simply enjoy the location. The new wardens had only been here a couple of weeks but were very welcoming and when our EHU decided to flip it was quickly rectified. Our star rating is reduced simply because there are no wash and shower facilities here and which we knew anyway but this actually suits us quite well so families might find this an inconvenience. Overall brilliant and I'm sure we'll be back next year.
