Quiet

This is a very quiet site set in the forest. I read reviews about getting to the site but was surprised about how narrow the approach roads were especially if meeting trucks and busses. The site is set in woodland which means that it doesn't get much sun. It's in a good position for walking from the site but for me the difficult approach is not worth a second visit.

My favourite site!

This is my favourite site of all those we have visited in 10 years. We have been back a number of times. Access is a bit tricky through Grange village, but arriving late afternoon or early evening means the road is less restricted by parked cars. The site is amazing, very quiet, nestled in the woods, with lots of wildlife to watch at close quarters, including red squirrels, though sadly we didn't see any this visit. It's only a short walk through the (Gruffalo) woods to the lakeside, the children wanted to spend all their time there, throwing stones, paddling, feeding the ducks, building dams in the stream! A little further on is the jetty to catch the launch for a circular tour of the lake. Grange village has a lovely little cafe, which we can fully recommend! I need to make special mention of the wardens on this site, they are by far the most friendly, welcoming wardens we have met in 10 years of caravanning. We planned to give them a certificate to say they were the best wardens, but 2 young children keep us so busy, we didn't get it done - hence the review! I have marked full marks for all areas, including good for families, as I believe you don't need a play park on site for it to be good for families. It's great for getting out and exploring nature, and building a strong family. H,N,B,K and Jasper the dog!

Peaceful

Like living in a wood. Peaceful and full of wildlife. Very helpful staff. Clean water area but no washroom which was fine for us because we always use the caravan facilities. Fresh bread and eggs sold at the site shop on certain days. Not many sunny plots as it's in the woods. Slate gravel is usually under foot so need strong pegs for awning. Sheltered from wind so it doesn't feel as cold as you might expect. Kids like playing in the woods but there's not much else for them to do. Great access to mountain and lake walks! A privilege to be located in a National Trust site.

Superb Borrowdale

Second visit just perfect but don't encourage too many to visit it's good to be able to get a pitch whenever I need!! Lack of showers and slightly awkward access are not a negative

Wonderful Borrowdale

Just returned from our second visit to the site. Given the choice of our own pitch, which was very spacious for our 7m motorhome. We love the interesting and varied pitches offered. The peace and tranquility is the reason we returned. There are  wonderful walks straight from the site, and if mobility is an issue you can catch a bus right outside. Not necessarily suitable for children of a young age.

Our second home

This site has to be the best in Britain. Been to this site about eight times and looking forward to the next eight. No toilet block (great) - a lot more sites should be basic. Why do you need a toilet block with modern vans? Excellent lake walks from site, plus bus outside site to quite a few places. Don't let some reviews about the small roads put you off, they are not that bad.

First timers

This was the first time we have used this site ( wish we had found it sooner ) a little awkward to get to but once on site the peace and quiet was fantastic, the walks offsite were great with access to the lake the wardens were down to earth and lovely people to talk to. Will definitely be visiting this site again. Wishing Thanks to the club and wardens for a fantastic break.

great location

Great place for walking/biking direct from the site. Easy walk to good dining and to landing for launch to Keswick. Nearby Grange has two excellent cafes. Staff very friendly. Will return.

maya our dog loves along with owners

Your staff at this site over the years that we have been coming here have always be very friendly ,helpful and can share a good laugh IT Would be fantastic to have a small shower block ,but then it would be so popular one may never get a site . The one and only problem is the pine needles ,they get every where.
