Always a friendly welcome, a beautiful well maintained site, we love the layout of the piches inbetween the trees. The views and location are stunning. We have stayed at this site many times in different seasons, sat outside the van chilling in the peaceful forest setting to walking up Catbells or walking into Keswick with the dogs.
Fabulous site!!!!
This site was in a beautiful location. Perfect for walks into the Borrowdale valley or up around Derwentwater into Keswick. As a family with two small children we missed a shower block but knew before arriving there wouldn't be one. But we managed in our caravan for a short break. There is nowhere to walk to at night for a drink other than the Lodore Falls or Borrowdale Hotel and we felt a little underdressed for both of these. Athough we were welcomed in the Lodore Falls and Borrowdale Gates . The staff in the Borrowdale Gates were particularly friendly. Just two little cafes in Grange itself no pub! But for a short peaceful break in a beautiful location I can recommend it thoroughly. Our warden was also very helpful and friendly. My children also loved her dog Reggie...
Having visited the site right at the beginning of the season, all feeders were empty and there were no squirrels around. The site staff need to proactively fill feeders on arrival and encourage visitors to do so too. Maybe the site fee could include an initial small squirrel food pack. (The site fee is quite expensive given lack of facilities). Apparently there are local people e.g.'squirrel Susan' who would be willing to fill feeders overwinter to help maintain squirrels on site, rather than trying to attract them back each year. The squirrels are a huge site asset which should be more strongly encouraged.
Site staff very friendly and helpful.
Our second visit to Borrowdale, we will be back again and again. The site is in a perfect setting, nestled in woodland on the shore of beautiful Derwent Water. The Newlands Horseshoe is right on the doorstep too, so if water and walking is your thing then Borrowdale is the place to be.
The site is well kept and the wardens are great. The site is made up of little sections so you never feel hemmed in or overlooked. One of our favourite Club sites!
My Fav site in the Lakes, Second visit to the site to see the Red Squirrels that I had been told of, But alas saw none again, Looking round the Squirrel feeders on the site, all empty again,
This will be a big reason the Squirrels are not been seen, (yapping dogs no help either)
So come on Caravan and Motorhome Club Please keep those feeders full of Hazel Nuts, Peanuts and Sunflower seeds,
Will be visiting again this year (2017) in the Autumn
We visited this site for the second time this year and yet again were mesmerised by it's beauty. We love the area, there are walks and climbs nearby. There is a bus which passes on the road directly outside the site gates. The wardens are friendly and helpful (a different pair from our first visit). The setting of the site is within a wood with minimal disruption to the settings and yet with all the facilities you could want from a site (although it does not have wifi or a toilet block), but this suits us just fine. There are only two downsides to this site (only one of which can be rectified by the Caravan Club). One - the approach road to the site is very narrow in places especially when cars are parked on what is already a narrow road and this should only be attempted by competent towers! And, two - we are distraught that the site is not open all year round as we like to "winter" caravan too and will be returning between Christmas and New Year, but alas, we have had to book on another site nearby. Do yourself a favour and pay a visit!
We try to get to Borrowdale a few times a year with one of them at the end of October to get the glorious Autumn colours.
As a keen photographer I cannot think of anywhere better than Borrowdale in Autumn. The colours and landscapes are unbelievable.
The site is small and peaceful (apart from the little motorhome next to us that had a water pump that sounded like a fog horn!). The layout feels like you are on a 4-5 van site as you are several little groups in among the woods.
The wardens are very pleasant and helpful as are most wardens but these seem less officious than some can be.
Overall a near perfect stay with some of the best walks and scenery anywhere.
We've been staying at Low Manesty (as we will always call it) since about 1983 and it continues to be the loveliest of the Club's sites. On the down side, there are nothing like as many red squirrels as there used to be. On the plus side, the bird life is marvellous, and a caravan makes good hide especially if you take some bird food and a feeder. In 5 days we were visited by at least 15 species, including regular shows from a great spotted woodpecker, a couple of nuthatches and a torrent of coal tits.
Stayed here many times - one of my favourite CC sites
Water waste and power and that's it! No other facilities!
Great individual pitches amongst trees well spaced out - even when the site is full you don't realise
Temporary wardens were on the last time I visited and we're very helpful
2 mins and your lakeside on the Derwentwater round the lake path (good dog walking) with boat landing stage 10 mins which'll the you to Keswick or around the lake
Circular bus to Keswick via Buttermere stops at entrance
Wonderful walks with high and low level on the doorstep - no need to travel!
Good cafe in Grange 10mins walk
Supermarkets in Keswick 15 mins drive
If you enjoy walks with stunning scenery this is the site for you
This is a beautiful campsite and although there are no amenities apart from water and toilet emptying, you couldn't wish for a better site.
The wardens are lovely and friendly and obviously do their job well as the site was spotless.
It is so peaceful and the walks to the lake are breathtaking.
I would thoroughly recommend it and we'll definitely be returning.
