Complete get away from it all

Spent 4 glorious nights here in June, ok the weather was beautiful which often helps but we've "done" The Lakes in all weathers & still find it just as beautiful. Friendly, helpful wardens were very welcoming & informative. There were more hotels/pubs within walking distance than we'd realised. The site is set in heavily wooded areas, with the hot weather we enjoyed, the dappled shade was very welcome! No facilities so need your own loo etc but think if this site had a toilet block then it might be 'heaving' - stay as you are Borrowdale, we love you!

Stunning location

We spent 3 nights in this beautiful site. There are no toilets or showers but if you have your own facilities & are happy to use them it is well worth a visit. The pitches are well spaced for privacy & surrounded by trees. The site staff are lovely, friendly & very helpful. It is well situated for walks around borrowdale & keswick. We love it & have already planned our next visit.

April 2017 - arrived just after Easter Monday but still 1/2 term for some

Unlike many other sites the location of the pitches at Borrowdale is determined by nature and not the need for straight lines! There are no toilets or showers and apart from the availability of EHU it is back to basics. The wardens don't get upset by whereabouts on the pitch you place your outfit or which way you face (so long as fire regulations are conformed with). We faced the "wrong" way and were rewarded with wonderful views, and could only see two other pitches. Bliss!. The site is heavily wooded so not many sun bathing spots, but we get those abroad. The bus ride into Keswick (clockwise) is over an hour and a quarter but the scenery is to die for. Going the other way the bus takes about 25 minutes. The taxi fare is around £14 so you can spend the night in the bright lights and not break the bank. Speaking of the bright lights try "St Mungos in Keswick for a Pancake breakfast, and the Theatre for excellent plays. The journey to the site is a bit tricky, we always use the Grange Bridge route. It can be very tight if anyone parks badly in the village (and they do). We had to fold the MH mirrors in and my wife shouted out how close we were to the wall (no pavement). She got down to "two inches", but I didn't tell her we were closer than that to the Range Rover parked with his nearside two foot out. You can approach from the North but the mini bus (about the same size as a MH) grounds out on a couple of corners coming on that road, and I didn't fancy the same happening to us. If you are going for a launch trip on the Lake buy tickets from the warden we (OAPs) saved £2 each compared to buying direct. For walkers this site offers many routes and levels of challenge.

peace and tranquility

Just returned from our first visit to this beautiful location. The site was peaceful, the natives very friendly, Karen and Phil were very helpful and friendly. We took a lovely stroll to the lake, this place couldn't be better appointed. The only thing missing on the facilities front were a toilet block or even a small toilet cabin. Lots of tele on the hook up point so rain didn't stop us relaxing. This site is sorrounded by lovely hotels with restaurants so if your like us and prefer to fine dine out you'll be spoilt for choice. Ideal for us, we will be back for sure.

peacfull break

We have stayed at this site on a number of occasions. We usually go in October for the change of colours on the trees. Thought we would have a change and go early. The fact there is no toilet block does not bother us, you have the facilities in your caravan so the fact you can stop in a prime location for half the price is a bonus. We walked to Castle Cragg , and Keswick from the site. We caught the bus back from Keswick getting off at the Lodore Falls hotel , and walked across to the site the wood platform. The 77 bus that drops you outside the site had broken down ,which is not good as its not that frequent .The car only moved once on Sunday to go to Buttermere. For walkers this is in a great location. I wont go on too much as I don't want it to become so popular that we cant get on. We will definitely return. We wasn't lucky enough to see the red squirrel or the deer this time, but other people had spotted plenty of wildlife.

Favourite getaway

Always a friendly welcome, a beautiful well maintained site, we love the layout of the piches inbetween the trees. The views and location are stunning. We have stayed at this site many times in different seasons, sat outside the van chilling in the peaceful forest setting to walking up Catbells or walking into Keswick with the dogs. Fabulous site!!!!

Beautiful peaceful site, perfect for family walks.Remember there's no shower block!

This site was in a beautiful location. Perfect for walks into the Borrowdale valley or up around Derwentwater into Keswick. As a family with two small children we missed a shower block but knew before arriving there wouldn't be one. But we managed in our caravan for a short break. There is nowhere to walk to at night for a drink other than the Lodore Falls or Borrowdale Hotel and we felt a little underdressed for both of these. Athough we were welcomed in the Lodore Falls and Borrowdale Gates . The staff in the Borrowdale Gates were particularly friendly. Just two little cafes in Grange itself no pub! But for a short peaceful break in a beautiful location I can recommend it thoroughly. Our warden was also very helpful and friendly. My children also loved her dog Reggie...

Feed red squirrels overwinter

Having visited the site right at the beginning of the season, all feeders were empty and there were no squirrels around. The site staff need to proactively fill feeders on arrival and encourage visitors to do so too. Maybe the site fee could include an initial small squirrel food pack. (The site fee is quite expensive given lack of facilities). Apparently there are local people e.g.'squirrel Susan' who would be willing to fill feeders overwinter to help maintain squirrels on site, rather than trying to attract them back each year. The squirrels are a huge site asset which should be more strongly encouraged. Site staff very friendly and helpful.

Great Site.

Our second visit to Borrowdale, we will be back again and again. The site is in a perfect setting, nestled in woodland on the shore of beautiful Derwent Water. The Newlands Horseshoe is right on the doorstep too, so if water and walking is your thing then Borrowdale is the place to be. The site is well kept and the wardens are great. The site is made up of little sections so you never feel hemmed in or overlooked. One of our favourite Club sites!

Red Squirrels

My Fav site in the Lakes, Second visit to the site to see the Red Squirrels that I had been told of, But alas saw none again, Looking round the Squirrel feeders on the site, all empty again, This will be a big reason the Squirrels are not been seen, (yapping dogs no help either) So come on Caravan and Motorhome Club Please keep those feeders full of Hazel Nuts, Peanuts and Sunflower seeds, Will be visiting again this year (2017) in the Autumn
