Lovely Lakeland Site

Enjoyed a lovely five night stay. Weather very mixed one day a deluge then lovely warm sunshine, but hey it's the Lakes! Great location for hikes long or short, a few minutes to lake shore. Great for dogs. Although we didn't use the bus it stops right outside the site. Although the site is very wooded we managed to pitch on a fairly open one, I suppose in Summer you would have to pick your pitch carefully if you like the sunshine ( that's hoping we get some). Loads of birdlife, although we didn't see the squirrels. Short drive to Keswick, although within easy walking distance . We were aware no toilets etc, but on speaking to the Wardens it would appear that not everyone reads the site facilities. Great, extremely friendly helpful wardens , keeping the site very tidy, with a small shop which sells items you may need.  The only very minor gripe I have is whatever is on the floor, a mixture of forest floor and small chippings is awful for getting inside the van etc. Never really had this problem before.  As mentioned in earlier post the drive in through Grange is a bit nail biting, but as we travelled on a sunny Bank Holiday we probably picked a bad day for cars being parked. We left early on a Saturday and the road was clear. We will definitely be returning to this site soon and probably many times.

Another lovely visit

As always we have had a wonderful visit.10 days of mixed weather- just what you would expect in Borrowdale. The walking was as good as usual the difference this visit is that we have new wardens-what a breath of fresh air Dee and Steve are, always smiling and visible, Steve around the site checking and sorting things as necessary.Nothing was too much bother and local produce in the shop. We were going to visit a different club site later in the year {still in Cumbria} but have cancelled in favour of Borrowdale. If you haven't been yet , YOU HAVE TO GIVE IT A GO !!

Fantastic Borrowdale

Your experience at the site begins  as you drive through the entrance and pull up to register.steve and Dee, the wardens have a blackboard which I'd updated daily with all the relevant info - market day, delivery of the famous Woodhalls  sausage and black pudding from Waberthwaite, next register and you meet Steve  and Dee who are doing so much for the site. Off you  go to find your pitch. Well, we found ours and have stayed an extra two days! From the camper window we have seen and photographed 14 species of birds and the squirrels delighted us thus morning on,y ten feet away. We've caught the Rambler bus into Keswick going the short way over Catbells and the long way via Seatoller Honister Pass and Slate mines, Buttermere Crummock Water, Whimlatter pass, Braithwaite and finally Keswick. Don't forget you bus pass if you have one! Unfortunately, we leave tomorrow but will certainly be back again.  Yes there isn't a toilet block, but as someone has already said most caravans and campers have their own toilet and shower these days. facilities otherwise  are great. Dee even sells the bird feeders, which we didn't know so brought our own! Thanks Dee and Steve for all your hard work. It's certainly one of the best sites we've been on both in the UK and Europe.

fab site! stunning location, pity no shower/toilet blocks

Hi, just returned home from weekend. Fabulous site, staff hugely helpful, late checkout no problem also. Pitches huge, tv booster on electric. Fab access lakes and woodland. HOWEVER why is there no toilet/shower or washing up facility. Ok for overnight stay but would put me off returning for a longer stay.

Remote site

A beautiful remote site but you have to accept the narrow approach road all the way from Keswick. The village of Grange is particularly bad. If the bus meets you in the really narrow section then I wouldn't like to say what would happen. It's not as if you can see any distance ahead. The site entrance is challenging but at least your fate is in your hands! The site itself is worth the journey, peace and quiet. My only real gripe is since my last visit the natural forest floor has been covered in slate chippings! Why? It wasn't a muddy site. It's not open all year. Setting that aside the site is lovely in the natural trees and close to the lake side. I know I will return and run the gauntlet of the roads. Super site!!

A gem of a place

Our first time to this site. No toilet block but hey why do manufacturers fit them in vans if not for such occasions. Best wardens we've ever come across running a very well stocked little shop too. Bus stop just outside the main gate but limited frequency, however, it's all about walking. Great walk around the lake into Keswick and equally nice the opposite direction towards Rothswaite. Most hotels in the area accept dogs in the common areas, the closest being the Lodore accessible via the site's rear pedestrian gate and over the lake bridge, probably about half a mile.

Peaceful Borrowdale

Peaceful site in the shadow of Cat Bells, plenty of opportunities to walk from the site deep into the Lakeland countryside. Access road is tight with parking along the road through the village despite yellow lines.  Reduced facilities could be an issue for families but with most vans coming with good loos and showers this shouldn't put anyone off, there is just so much to do. Friendly and helpful wardens to greet travellers is a bonus

Borrowdale so peacefull

A very friendly site in a lovely quiet location a mile beyond GRange in Borrowdale. Convenient to the boardwalk across to Lodore and with bus services across the valley and even to the door it makes a delightful centre for exploring the quieter side of Derwentwater. We shall return...

Lovely Site - Peaceful

Just had two nights at Borrowdale, nestled in the woods below the peak of "Cats Bells", this is a great site for walkers. No facilities, but that probably adds to the peace, as most people tend to stay around their pitches. No Wifi, but those on the 3 Network will get a booming signal on their Mifi or phone. Steve and Dee the new wardens are welcoming and very hard-working. The standard of the site is testament to that. Highly Recommended folks.
