Peaceful and Lovely

We stayed here for the August Bank Holiday and were very impressed; from the welcome and thorough sign in through to departure.  The wardens at this site are very friendly and professional and we spoke to them a few times, they are knowledgeable about the area, what to do and how to get around. The on-site shop is the very best we have ever seen, the owners make sure they stock everything you could need, but also treats like locally produced goods.  We were on pitch 45, but all pitches to us looked good.  The site is impeccably well maintained and perhaps it not having toilet blocks is a good thing as it did not appear to attract too many children (a plus for us!) Everyone was very friendly.  The launch boat is about a 20 min walk from the site (buy your tickets at the site shop and save £1 pp), there are 3 tea rooms in walking distance and 2 hotels which enable non residents to have a drink.  The roads to the site are a little tight especially when walkers park their cars on the roadside. A great site and will certainly return.

Our favourite site

Just completed our second holiday in Borrowdale in less than two months. Fantastic peaceful location with well separated pitches and lots of wildlife.  There are a huge variety of walking routes for all abilities in the immediate vicinity for both low level and high level walks.  We now take bikes with us as there are some superb cycling routes along very very picturesque roads and cycle paths.   Our only minor gripe is the awkward location of the drain for the motor home waste tank.

Red Squirrels

Amazing site, so theres no loos thats fine its only a mile to public loos if you don't like using your own. starring breakfast with a red squirrel was a real treat. Amazing walking straight from the gates  Catcalls can be done easily and we had a fantastic time.  Oh the lakes brilliant not so keen on Keswick when crowded on MKT day. Got to go back soon

Peace & quite in Borrowddale

This is the best site for peace & quite. Plenty of walks. Lovely for dogs as it is right on Derwent water with a little walk through the woods. Nice to take a boat trip (dogs welcome). Borrowdale Hotel is also dog friendly if you want to walk over for a drink. We have been twice in a short space of time and will not doubt be revisiting.

Shhhh! Dont tell anybody!

This is the best kept secret in the network! They say it is about location location location - well this site has all three!! Right at the foot o Cat Bells and on the edge of Derwent Water you have access to the ferry and a great little bus stops right tight outside the site. Using the transport links you can plan loads of walks using the boat or bus to drop you off. There is the best view in Britain down the valley of Borrowdale and a boardwalk to get you across the lake to the cLadore Falls! On Steve and Dee are pretty well spot on too! Best wardens by far! But dont tell anyone!!

A site by the lake

The approach to the site is a bit nail biting as is the turn into the entrance. It is best to park up and take a walk round as the pitches do vary in size and most of the pitches have overhanging trees but the overall effect is one of self contained pitches. It is a fabulous site for dogs, the dog walk goes straight into a safe wood which is also one of two walking routes to Keswick. A bus stops right outside the site and has many and varied drop off points or you can catch the ferry boat that crosses Derwentwater. In all a stunning lovely site with resident red squirrels, greater spotted woodpeckers, nuthatch and tree creepers. The site for us was made even better by the resident wardens who are two of the nicest people we have ever met . We will definitely return

Tranquil site

Borrowdale is a great site if you want to be away from the hustle and bustle of Keswick. The site is under tree cover which is a problem when it rains all night, but other than that it's great. The site has very tight turns into some of the pitches and getting out at night as we did took a huge amount of manoeuvring in the pitch dark to avoid trees scrapping the side of the van. Would go back

Stunning location and wonderful tranquility

This was our first visit and we will definitely be back. Such a warm welcome from all of the wardens who were so helpful and friendly. It really is a beautiful location with so many great walks from the site. Our border collie Skye had the time of his life, swimming in Derwent Water and exploring the woods. Great Walkers Bar down the road in Rosthwaite- honest prices, traditional food and great beer.
