Our favourite club site of all

this site is perfect. it is set in national trust woodland right on the edge of Derwent water with lots and lots of dog walks directly off the site. we walked along the lake to the local pubs for a drink and sat in the sunshine admiring the stunning countryside. The beauty of the place, the peace and tranquility are just what we want in a holiday. Yes it is in woodland so if you are a sun worshipper the pitches don't get a lot of sun, there is no toilet block or showers, but we never use them anyway as our caravan shower and toilet are fine. The journey into the site is interesting!!! but its so worth it when you arrive. The site staff I think were emergency staff so had only been there a couple of weeks but they could not have been more helpful and what things they didn't know they found out for us. We had such a lovely time we have booked to go again in October, My only criticism is that it is not open all year round.

Access

Marvelous site but tortuous access through Grange, especially when cars parked up the mainstreet.

Almost Back to nature

This was our second visit to this site and we can highly recommend it if you are looking for great woodland walks, stunning walks around the lake, and even a few roe deer 🦌 stopping by to say hello. The site team, are extremely friendly, welcoming and helpful, nothing seems to much. Beware there is no toilet block, when considering th3 price this is disappointing, but would not nor will not stop us visiting again.

The perfect site

If we had the ability to create the perfect landscape and put a site in the perfect location it we couldn't do better than Low Manesty in Borrowdale. In our opinion it is the perfect site in the perfect location. It is a dream for walkers: walk out the site entrance and you're at the foot of Cat Bells and have a choice of footpaths in various directions up the mountain or on the level, all of which offer great views. Walk out of the site through the gate at Lakeside Gardens and the short walk to Derwent water and you are rewarded with the best view in the Lakes looking south into Borrowdale and Castle Crag. The final exit from the site will take you through woodland to the lake launch landing stage at Brandlehow. We visited in June and saw loads of nesting birds. There are several tearooms half an hour's walk from the site. In fact you could stay for a week and visit a different one every day. This is the one site we return to time and time again and are already planning our next visit. There are no shower blocks or toilet blocks but all modern caravans and most campervans have these facilities. The last few miles of towing are a bit narrow especially through the village of Grange where parked cars can be a problem. We've visited this site 7 times to date and once did have a bit of a squeeze through Grange. The bridge has a 6'6" width restriction but our 7'3" van fits with the best part of a foot either side: it is the village itself which is a problem. The site is in woodland. You can't see the site from outside which means most pitches don't have views and some pitches are dark. We didn't have an awning on our most recent visit but because all the non-awning pitches had been booked for one night of our stay we had to book an awning pitch. We didn't particularly want an awning pitch and were happy to take a non-awning pitching leaving the larger awning pitches free for someone else but the warden insisted we take an awning pitch. We've never had to do that before at any club site.

Just Perfect

Secluded, amazingly peaceful & stunning location. Absolutely love this site for the access to Derwentwater, the walks from the site & being so close to nature. Have not slept so soundly for a long time...we will be back again and again. Thank you Phil & Bev for looking after this beautiful campsite so well.

Hidden Gem

This site is hidden in the woods beside Derwent Water. Make sure you make a packed lunch and turn right outside the entrance either on foot or in your vehicle. Drive to the top of the hill and stop. Take in the amazing views across Derwent Water. You will not be disappointed! There is even a concrete bench to sit on or use as a table. :-)

Derwent water is just through the gate!

A delightful site. Has an excellent arrangement of pitches which are aĺl well spaced and give the small site feel. I really hope the club extend the number of no toilet block sites as they have everything you need but with a wonderfully relaxed ambience! This is truly a wonderful part of the Lakes. Cat Bells is accessed off the site, Derwent water is just through the gate and is a lovely circular walk. Flat and about 9 miles with Keswick half way around. I am sure that you will enjoy a lovely break at this site it is hard to improve on a stay in the Lakes.

Red Squirrel Watching

A great site for watching red squirrels from the van window and walking. The staff are very helpful and couldn't do enough to help. We'll return to this lovely quiet site.

Ideal Site

The approach to the site can be challenging, 5 miles of fairly busy yet narrow road then a right turn into a bridge which is slightly wider than a caravan before another narrow road and a tight turn into the site. With well separated parts to the site it has the feel of a smaller site, each pitch is nicely sized and anywhere you can only see a handful of other vans due to the well spread out site design in a wood on the banks of Derwent Water with Cat Bells as a backdrop. This site is a delight with at least three circular 3 to 6 mile walks starting at the site. Road or mountain biking is also a plus at the quieter end of the Lakes. The site is quiet apart from wind in the trees and on this visit a very busy wood pecker, heard but not seen. Lots to do in the area and Keswick just 5 miles away by car or the lake boat which can be caught at the jetty 10 minutes walk away. Parking in Keswick is quite pricey though. No toilet or shower block may deter families yet this could be a positive for older people.

Secluded forest site in great location but with limited facilities for families

Great to be able to walk to Catbells direct from this site - that's why we chose here. We went for location over facilities (which includes a good motorhome waste point) but for our sons the addition of the shower block and area of grass would we great for them! The pitches are well-spaced and varied without feeling overlooked. If you are looking for a great location with a clean, quiet, well kept site, this is a good place to stay.
