Its clear before booking that there are no toilets/showers here and its clear from other reviews that access can be testing (though we had no issues either coming on or going home) but this site is in a fantastic location if you want to find peace and quiet and have direct access to both the shores of Derwentwater and to the hills surrounding the lake. The B road from Keswick down the side of Derwentwater is windy and narrow in places but generally wide enough for two directions so long as you take it steady (the worst thing is the uneven/bouncy surface). We followed a coach so that helped to make it an easier run. Turning right over the single width double hump back bridge looks worse than it is and the final half mile or so is very narrow in places but again there are plenty of places to pass oncoming cars (even bigger vehicles) if indeed you actually meet any. The site entrance does need some care as its a double right bend so take it slow and wide but again its not that bad. Pitches are amongst a mix of very tall fir and birch trees and therefore, as others have said, there is only dappled sunlight (but when its hot as it was last week this can be an advantage). Our pitch (7) was spacious and very close to water/waste so no complaints there (I've seen comments on the pitches being tight/small but didn't see anything obviously like that). The reason you would go here is to get away from it all. To have a path that leads out directly to Derwentwater and therefore access onto the circular well made path around the lake is great - especially for our 3 small dogs. There is also a path from the side of the site (in the bottom corner) which doesn't get much of a mention but this is another excellent walk through Manesty Woods (and later links up with the Derwentwater Path). There are no shops etc (you need to go to Keswick for that) but you could walk to tea rooms/cafes in most directions. We used the boat to return from one walk - saving us about 30-40 mins of the walk for £2.45 each (dogs free) and you can get a hop on hop off day ticket for £11. There is a bus too so no need to use your car here. If you want to get away from it all and if you have dogs or love walking then this is the site you want to go to. One small reservation - Im not sure It would be quite so appealing in the Lake District rain....
You Pays your Money and Takes your Choice
I'll not repeat everything that Priddy mentioned in his/her review, (about 3 reviews previous) as they got everything they said spot on. Additional comments are that some pitches are tight whilst others can be large, not all pitches are level, and some can be devoid of an overhanging tree. I know because we stayed on one. I didn't expect to as I had read the description of the site, unlike some reviewers who seem to have booked the wrong site completely. Read the descriptions people and previous reviews!! Plus I have stayed before so I also knew that the nearer one gets to the site the narrower the roads appear to get. Please take care entering the site. Not uncommon for people to either damage their outfit or the entrance gate. Just take it easy. The motorhome service point is the best I've come across on a club site and Mr & Mrs Fussey, the wardens, were also the best in 29 years of membership. The true beauty of the site is the location if your hobbies are exploring the wonderful wilderness on your doorstep. One of the most beautiful places on earth.
I'm prepared to accept the trees, the rain, the access, the lack of shops, the lack of facilities as it's situated exactly where I wanted to be. Enjoyed it? You bet.
Lovely site with very helpful warden
Just home from a 2 night stay, excellent location, especially for dog walking. The warden was very helpful and if I could nominate her for the best warden award, I definitely would! So quiet and peaceful, will definitely return.
Tranquil
Had a lovely 4 night stay early June. Being honest this is our favourite site in the lakes due to its location and quite setting. If you are comfortable with no toilet block this is the place to explore and relax in. Always worth an early rise and stroll through the woods as you are pretty much guaranteed to see Roe Deer, for bird watches the woods provide a fantastic array from birds of pray down to little coal tits. A short walk over to lodore falls gives you a bonus of gold crest.
If it nature and tranquility you want, this is the place for you. The site is small and kept very well and the staff are very friendly.
See you soon.
Lovely but not perfect
Just arrived home from Borrowdale having had a nice stay. The Wardens are every bit as good as others have said but this site won't suit everybody. If you are happy to use your own facilities you'll be fine as there's no real facilities to speak of bar the usual electric, water and waste. The service points are few and far between but there is a good aerial booster.
There are no lake side pitches, so don't be misled by other comments. Some are located nearer to the gate and path to the lake. The pitches are not all generous, can be quite sloping and the crushed slate of the hardstandings carries in on shoes and dodgy paws when wet. The whole site is in quite dense woodland, so sunlight will be dappled and shade easy to find. I imagine this is a very deliberate policy of the Lake District park authorities in order to preserve the beauty of the area. The potential bonus is wildlife up close but we didn't see any.
The saving grace is the location and easy access to this wonderful area of the Lake District, in that respect it is on a par with Coniston but lacks a more open aspect and the facilities of others sites in the Lakes. We love Keswick so it worked well for us for a few days stay.

Stunning Site
First time here - definitely won't be our last! Absolutely beautiful location with plenty of lovely walks with our dog, also not too far from Keswick itself which is a pretty town. Our favourite site from a two week tour consisting of 6 different locations - this one was exceptional
One of the best sites in the Lakes
What an amazing site, it's so beautiul even when it's raining! Which it was, a lot, while we were there. We stayed at the far end and the smell of pines and woodland was lovely to wake up to. We had the warmest of welcomes from the relief team and loads of advice on what to do and where to go, timings for buses and boats etc. It was a great location for getting around as the bus stops at the gate and it's a nice walk through the woods to pick up the lake boat for a round trip to Keswick. While there were no toilets and showers the rest of the facililities are al kept clean and tidy. We had a really enjoyable stay and would love to return. Particularly valued the TV booster.
First time visitor - Amazing :)
We have been club members for many years and are regular visitors to the Lake District. Our usual site is at Coniston although we had always intended to come to Keswick at some point.
Arrival is a little tricky as there is a narrow road from Keswick (Buses and lorries are a struggle) and then a turn taking you over a narrow humped back bridge - Slow and steady sees you well, but perhaps not ideal for those less confident in towing.
The entrance to sight involves a very tight right hand turn, just take this nice and wide. Reception was excellent and the warden was super helpful and so very friendly.
The site is set amongst trees so there are no views as such, but it is s lovely site and very pretty in its own right. Pitches are not the biggest but more than enough for our unit and awning. No WIFI to the pitch but i had a very strong 4G signal (O2) which was fine.
We are hill walkers so the location is absolutely fantastic for Cat Bells and the nearby wainwrights.
Lack of toilet/shower isn't an issue for us as we have a new caravan with all onboard. The waste disposal area was clean and not far away at all.
The shop on site stocked all of the essentials, but come prepared as nearest proper show is a 7 mile drive through narrow roads.
A lap of the lake is about 10 miles and is lovely, as well as a coupe of pubs along the way to break up the journey.
I am already booked back for the May Bank Holiday!
Peaceful camping in the beautiful Borrowdale Valley
I might be biased, as I grew up in Borrowdale, and passed by this site many a time. But it is truly lovely and in keeping with its natural situation. Electricity was reliable, pitches large, staff very friendly and informative, and it was a quiet haven in the middle of the craziness that characterizes the Easter weekend in this part of the world. No need for a sanitation block when you have your own washroom. Climb Catbells from the gate. Oh, and on a sunny day a trip can be taken across the lake from Brandelhow landings just yards away. £11 for a round trip which takes an hour (or jump on/jump off) and places you in the middle of breathtaking scenery. It's still Caravan Club standards but it's been done so nicely.

Lovely location, peaceful setting.
Great location for peace and quiet as long s you don't mind neither shower nor toilet facilities. Spacious pitches with a choice of either lakeside or a woodland. 5 mile walk to Keswick. Decent bus service or you can use the ferry but its not cheap. You can cross to the other side of the lake to the 3 hotels using the duckboards but you would want to be back before dark. Great place for walking with lovely pubs and eateries in keswick itself.
