All good

Here at the moment. Lovely clean well kept site. Easy checking in. Very understanding ranger and his wife. The site was fully booked over the weekend. And everything was still spotless.  Don't park at the bottom on the site. Very busy a road.

A little Gem

A last minute booking but what a little gem. Set in lovely surroundings. Great amenities block and wonderful staff. Only a short drive into Leek Town Centre and with a pub within walking distance to the site it's on a definitely return to site list.

Good Clean Site

Good clean site with clean facilities and friendly staff. Serviced pitches in the centre of the site. Bottom of site is close to the A53 so gets traffic noise; top of site is near the children’s playground but there are also lots of pitches away from these areas. Toilet/shower blocks are at the top and bottom of the site but nothing is too far from any of the pitches. Dog walks border the site. Some pitches are a bit remote from service points for electricity and TV, so long cables are needed – 20 to 25 Metres. Suitable length TV cables are available on site for £15. Take the A53 in the direction of Buxton but, well before then, turn left or right on the very minor roads to get lost down winding country lanes and beautiful scenery. Leek is a town worth visiting - park in the market square if you can and walk from there. Parking is free after 3 p.m. The “Three Horseshoes Inn” is worth a visit for food, with a choice of pub food, carvery or restaurant. Point to note: the entrance to the site is not easily seen until you’re on top of it. It is signed but the signs are masked by trees. Drive slowly when you’re close. When approaching from Leek, the “Camping and Caravan Club” site is on the left and can easily be mistaken for the “Caravan Club” site which is about a mile further on the right.

Great retreat

This was our first outing to a site since our purchase of a caravan. It is only 30min from our home but the location is really handy for accessing two reservoirs, the Roaches, the Peak District and Leek itself which has shops a plenty. (Incl Waitrose if you like living the high life!) On arrival we were met by Anthony and Sheila who were very welcoming and helped Us position the caravan and couldn't have been more helpful. Throughout our stay they were always busy keeping the site tidy but always approachable with their dog. The wash block was clean, tidy and warm, a real credit to the staff's hard work. Our pitch was lower down and selected for its ease of access to help us newbies. I could hear the noise from the road but nothing intrusive and it certainly didn't affect my nights sleep.  Reception stock basics and there is a small fenced play area for younger children. This site was great, last wknd of school half term and although busy never felt full or crowded. Nice security barriers with fobs issued to customers, pleasant wooded dog walk also. I have no criticism here, a great introduction for us.

Pleasant Suprise

Just visited and site is really well kept, wardens never seemed to stop working and were very approachable and helpful. The site with its terraces and alcoves is really nice. Pitches were a good size and amenities spotless. The road is noisy with trucks and motorbikes, sometimes in the early hours, but you get used to it. Tittesworth Reservoir is nice for walk, Leek is OK but not really worth a visit unless you are struggling and 3 Horseshoes pub nearby the site was good food and value. Would return for around 3 nights again - just because the site setting is so good.

Nice but a little noisy

Just returned from a 5 night stay at Blackshaw Moor. The site is immaculately kept. The facilities are spotless and the fact that there are two toilet blocks is a bonus.  However there is noise from the busy road but the caravan club cannot do anything about that. We arrived on Friday in a thick mist and were unaware of the beautiful views that surrounded the site until Saturday morning. We had a drive out and visited Tittesworth reservoir, we went for a walk around it but got lost and ended up walking to Abbey Green. Still the countryside and scenery was stunning. Sunday we took a drive into Leek - don't bother there's nothing open except pubs and charity shops. On Monday we had a walk on The Roaches - a set of rocky outcrops on the top of the hills- what a view across the county. Tuesday we went cycling at Carsington Water an area that we know well, lesson learnt because as we left today the wardens told us all the places to visit for walking and cycling, they have a knowledge that is just waiting to be tapped.  The wardens were extremely helpful and always on hand to help or chat.  We will definitely return in the future.  I suppose my only negative was the unit with the dogs barking at 07.30am, now when I'm on holiday I don't really want to be woken at 07.30 by someone else's dog only to be joined in by the kids on another unit shouting and crying. Customers in these campsites need to have respect for their fellow campers and keep their pets and kids under control especially at that early hour and remember that everything said in a caravan can be heard by the surrounding units. Still a lovely site with superb staff keeping it in tip top condition.

Superb site

Currently at the site and cannot praise this site enough. From the very warm welcome by the wardens, very efficient & friendly check in. Pitch type was no 77 a fully serviced type. Plenty of space separated by well trimmed hedges to each side and front. The whole site a credit to the caravan club and the wardens absolutely superb and very hard working with a friendly attitude making the stay that more enjoyable , daily papers, spotless toilets and showers, peace only 4 stars due to occasional gunshots in the distance typical of country locations and not a reflection on site noise. Will certainly revisit.

Enjoyed our stay.

Recently spent 7 nights at this lovely site, our first visit there. Pleasant wardens keep the site and facilities immaculate. We found some great walks in the area, The Roaches and Hen Cloud are a must! The walk round Titteworth reservoir is well worth the effort, specially for birdwatchers. There's a visitor centre there and a good playground. For those who can't manage the walk round, mobility scooters are available to hire. Nearby Leek has a good variety of shops and markets. Saturday theres an open air antiques and collector's market, where you might spot a bargain. We would like to visit this site again as we couldn't fit everything into one week, there's so much to see.

Good site in the Peak District

Blackshaw Moor is a medium sized site with 89 pitches all of which are on hardstandings, non-members are accepted. The site gently climbs up from the main road. Pitches are in curved rows which gives a more intimate feel, some pitches are separated by hedges. To the side of the main access roads are small terraces of between four and six pitches. There are a number of serviced pitches with individual water and waste which can be booked at additional cost.   The pitching area between the road and reception does suffer from some road noise. Most pitches seem to require a degree of fore and aft levelling. Electric points are convenient to pitches and use standard CEE 17 blue plugs rated at 16 amps. The bollards also have a co-ax TV connectors which are free to use but you have to provide your own cable or purchase one from reception. There are two toilet blocks of a nice standard the lower one next to reception being the larger of the two. Both blocks have a small fully enclosed washing up area. There are several water and waste water service points around the site but only one has a chemical disposal point but additional points are at the two toilet blocks. The motorhome service point has good access but still requires heavy drain covers to be removed in order to drain waste water. For children there is a small adventure style playground. The site has a dog walk that skirts the perimeter of the site on one side. There is site wide WiFi available which I found to be of reasonable speed, time can be purchased online. Reception sells a few essentials and next door is a small information room. This site is within easy travelling distance of both Leek and Buxton and of course the wider Peak District. Reception sell local walking maps. For those that prefer to use public transport there is a three hourly bus service to both Leek and Buxton. This does not sound particularly regular but it does allow enough time between services to explore both towns. For shopping there are several supermarkets in Leek, the nearest being Waitrose. Both towns have a good mix of shops. For eating out closer to the campsite there is The Three Horseshoes about 300 metres from the entrance which seems to specialise in steak but there are many other menu options. The food is not cheap but the meals are substantial!!!

Pity about the weather

First visit to this site and very pleased that we selected it. Very clean and well presented. Level hardstanding pitches. Wardens were pleasant and helpful. Good site for visits to Buxton & Bakewell. The pub, 3 Horse Shoes, just a 5 minute walk away was excellent.
