The staff running and caring for this site really make it a great place to stay. It’s extremely handy for the Roaches and Tittesworth reservoir although you will need to walk a short distance on the main road. 4 good dog friendly pubs close by which are listed on the useful information sheet. I visited to try and avoid the worst of the fireworks with my nervous dog, still fairly noisy but glad to have visited anyway. Very good sized pitches and some interesting history of the site. Thanks CAMC and I hope everyone has a good off season
2nd time staying at this site. Very friendly wardens, very welcoming. Very clean site. Good size pitches and able to choose own pitch excellent location for walks to Roaches and Tittesworth reservoir. Plenty of pubs in walking distance, which are dog friendly.
Lovely site with spacious pitches, didn't feel hemmed in like other sites and the wardens were fantastic. I was told the pitches nearest the main road would be noisy, but I didn't mind that pitch and the road noises were fine. Lovely little dog walk on site and you can walk outside the site too with longer walks, which my dogs enjoyed!
Second visit, this time with a small caravan. Friendly and efficient check-in with the usual CAMC ability to drive round to find your chosen pitch.
Two facilities blocks were spotless, warm and with plentiful hot water.
Lovely wooded dog walk around part of the perimeter. Sloping site with a variety of pitches (we chose one in a side area for 4 units).
Mobile signal varies but free hourly wifi available. Four pubs in walking distance: nearest is Three Horseshoes easy walk on main road with pavement/path, Old Rock Inn was closed due to staff holidays but looked good from the outside.
The Reform Inn was our favourite (excellent food) but is a 1. 5 mile uphill walk along an unlit country road with no pavement. The Lazy Trout is 1. 7 miles again along unlit road with no pavement. Excellent walks nearby.
We visited Tittesworth Reservoir on arrival day (easy walk about 3. 3 miles round trip) on road to Lazy Trout.
Next day did Hen Cloud and over to Roaches Gate approx 4. 8m with some rocky scrambling but beautiful views. Last day walked to Lud's Church using the circular walk leaflet (stunning chasm with some steep rocky steps and muddy parts in woodland paths) - 10 miles round trip from site - be aware you need to walk 3. 3 miles before the start of the printed walk.
Would highly recommend this site if you like hiking.
Wardens kept a very clean and tidy site.
This was my first time at a campsite in the UK as I've always avoided what I feared would be crowded, noisy places. But this was a fabulous one night stay on my way back South. Really quiet and peaceful at this time of year (late Sept) and very large pitch with full services. The grounds were immaculately kept and all the staff I interacted with were really friendly and helpful. As indeed were the other campers. I'd definitely try sites again at low season.
What a lovely place and charming staff. We were made welcome by Steve as soon as arrived. All explained and shown to us using site map. Told to go for a wander and choose a pitch come back and collect pitch plate. He had advised on a lovely spot and was correct. The ladies we met later were charming as well. Advised where to go for a spot of dinner later. All in all a super visit. Pitch Roomy level and quiet. All facilities near by and extremely clean and well presented. Will be using this site again when in area.
We stayed 2 nights at this site in our campervan. I was greeted with a cheery welcome by the lovely lady at reception who went over everything we may need to know during our stay. The toilet block and site in general was very well kept and spotless and it's a great location for walking in the roaches. There are some lovely pubs close by serving home cooked food. The site is just off a busy road but there was ample space at the time we went to be away from traffic noise. We will return.
Stayed here for only one night whilst on route to another location but will definitely be back for a longer stay. A perfect, clean and tidy welcoming site with great facilities and the staff are brilliant too. Perfect location for exploring the local area. .
On the plus side, this is a well-run site with clean facilities and a decent shop for basics with friendly and helpful staff. There is a pub serving good food 7 or 8 minutes walk away and a nice dog walk around the site. BUT - it is well worth getting to this site as soon as you can after 1pm as the best and most level pitches at the top of the site go first. The road is very noisy at the bottom and some of the lower pitches aren't level, so take blocks if you're going to be late.
We have stayed on this year a few times over the years, and always find plenty to see, wardens are very friendly.
Great place for walking, visit to Dovedale, Bakewell & Buxton all in easy reach, a walk around the reservoir on the door step.
Had a very nice meal in The Three Horseshoes pub a few minutes walk from the site.
Will return in the future.
