Really good for touring the area

As others have said the site is on a slope and the lower tier is near to a main road so park at the top (if you can). The site is very well kept and current staff very nice and helpful. We use it as a base for going to local places of interest.

Sloping site

Ok it's in the Peak District which is hilly and the site is the same. If you don't want road noise stay away from the road and haul your caravan up the hill for some lovely peace and quiet. We stayed near the top on a spacious end pitch not too far from the facilities. The facilities at the top of the hill were fairly limited with only 2 showers per gender so we imagine they must get pretty busy during peak times. But they are kept clean and fresh. Hard standing pitches only. We were only here for 3 nights so didn't get around to see much apart from Bakewell which was delightful - and the original Bakewell pudding was delicious.

great stay

great 4 day stay, site is immaculate, staff are really lovely and helpful. a lot of the pitches seem bigger than most which is nice. Only gave score of three for "peace and quiet" because we were at the bottom of the site near the road, got used to it after a bit, and it was a lovely grassy pitch, plenty of room for the dog.

Blackshaw Moor

Good base for the western edges of the Peak District. Just an overnight stay for us but we went high up to the back of the site, it was peaceful and had plenty of greenery. We did the short stroll to the Three Horseshoes Hotel, excellent meal in comfortable surroundings. Good drive over motor home point on site. We had visited nearby NT Biddulph Grange on the way, stunning gardens! Beautiful drive onwards past the Roaches and over the hills to Buxton etc.

Not for us.

Cannot complain about the site facilities. However, I wouldn't really call it "dog friendly" as the on site dog walk does not allow dogs off leads and you must tether your dog on a relatively short leash to your van. We found the whole site a bit "regimented". You have to park in a certain way, within a certain distance from the next pitch etc etc .... Roads are too busy to make dog walking easy and there are too many large heavy vehicles using the road to make it safe (in our opinion) to take a relaxing bike ride. We even took the relatively hazardous walk (narrow road and blind bends) with the dog to the reservoir, thinking he could at least have a good run. No - wrong again - they don't allow dogs off the lead either! Having said that, it's a great, safe site for young families. Just not dog friendly and relaxed enough for us.

Definitely no peace and quiet

Visited this site for the first time for a weekend visit with friends celebrating a birthday.Positives are the site has good flat pitches and good access and good clean facilities onsite. Downside was the peace and quiet. From 10.00am on Sunday morning the wardens decided to petrol strim the hedges between pitches.Warden wore ear defenders,it was a pity we all couldn't be supplied with the same. No one could hear each other speak.First occasion went on for 40 minutes of constant stimming until 1040am then stopped. A short while later we left the site to go walking returning early afternoon .After being back for a few minutes they started again on the hedges on the next pitch along. No point sitting outside as the noise was horrendous.Appreciate site maintenance has to be done but a Sunday morning /afternoon? Lots of people come away for chill out weekends to get away from, work wouldn't it have been better a quieter time in the week. Approached the warden doing the work said we were leaving early asked us if we had had enough.Replied I had of the noise and he said it had to be done and he was doing it when the weather was dry.Wasn't really interested when I said fee paying customers might also like a bit of peace on site . When doing a review one of the questions asked is about peace and quiet, i think it was quite reasonable to ask for that. Maybe a high powered petrol strimmer on a Sunday morning might be replaced with a hand held pair of shears and we might all be happy. Left instead of staying tonight payed for with a caravan club voucher. Not the best experience could of been made easier by a better response from the warden.Won't be returning will be revisiting Longnor Wood from now on.

Serviced not serviced....

We stayed here for the first time a couple of weeks ago, on one of the serviced pitches. Unfortunately we had already read reviews about dreaded pitch 71, only to find on our arrival that this was the only serviced pitch available. I wish we hadn't bothered. Probably the poorest serviced pitch we have used. You'll need at least a 15 metre water hose, and good luck with trying to get your waste to drain uphill, although i think most people on this side of the road struggled as they could be seen lifting their hoses in the morning in order to assist gravity. In addition to the uphill struggle the waste itself is on the wrong side of the van, so if you only have actual waste pipe and not coils of pipe then you'll struggle. We asked at the shop if they sold, or had any water pipe we could borrow, but were met with a rather disappointing no, maybe get some in Buxton 8 miles away. We plodded on without and made no use of the 'serviced' pitch as a result. If we come back then we'll just go on a normal pitch. To be fair they all seem a lot nicer and the ones lower down have a lot more space than the area we were on. All that said, this is a lovely spot with loads to explore on your doorstep. There are numerous pubs and places to eat with some in walking distance, a couple more only a few minutes drive away. The site is really easy to get to although if you are coming from Leek itself, don't get excited when you see the first sign on the left as you leave the town. That's the Caravan and Camping site down the road.... Lots of friendly caravaners on site to share their knowledge of the local area and places to visit and eat, and the dog walk and other facilities are all lovely and clean. As mentioned by others, I would want to avoid the pitches which back on to the road as this is busy and there is a lot of road noise.

Beautifully kept site and ultra helpful wardens!

Just stayed at Blackshaw Moor for the first time and had a great time. We found the wardens Keith and Tracy extremely helpful and very approachable. We only got our campervan last year so are very new to life not in a tent! After parking up and spending a good hour trying to work out how to get our drive-away awning up (assisted eventually by Bill who was walking past and gave us some great advice) we went to hook up to electric and found our cable wasn't long enough. Keith spotted us scratching our heads and came straight over and explained that we needed at 25m cable and most vans are knowingly sold with 15m cables. That was us off grid then! Nope, Keith sorted us out with a cable at a good price and we were good to go. Bill later passed by again and offered us some rock pegs as the plastic ones that came with our awning were not playing game on our pitch. What a lovely welcome by all to The Club! The only thing we struggled wiith a little was the traffic noise from the road. I was fine as i always travel with good earplugs but my partner needs to get with the earplug brigade. We will defiintely be back. Loved the site and everything was so clean and well kept. thanks Keith and Tracey - we had a great time helped by you both. Hope to see you again in the future!
