Great stay

We stayed 3 nights this week. I’d been a bit apprehensive due to previous reviews and Covid-19, no need to have worried at all. The site was following all gov guidelines. Yes, reduced facilities, but the vast majority of vans have a loo and even shower, and as I saw no toilet queues, I presume everyone was using their own. One review commented about not liking booking in through a window, this works perfectly and protects us and the site managers. We could walk for hours from the site, the road may be busy but it has a path that leads to public footpaths. The Roaches and reservoir all within walking distance. We will be back to explore more walks. Thank you to the site managers for providing a great service during this difficult time for all.

Disappointing

The site is not to the standard as previous. Grass areas not cut, dog walk neglected. Whilst I understand the issue regarding cleaning of toilet blocks to only have 1 block open with 2 toilet and shower in both the men’s and ladies is insufficient when the site is full (87 pitches). People didn’t adhere to the noise policy but the wardens did deal with the issue. A lot of the pitches had poor drainage. This is the 5th time we have been to this site but do not plan to return.

Needs a lot of effort put in

One night stopover heading for the Lakes, via Lyme House. We found it easily enough, and checked in. We did not like dealing through a partly open office window to book in. We pitched on the upper level near the closed facility block, which was quieter. We did not think the club allowed camping, but there was a large group allowed near the entrance, who also had children cycling around the lower area. Also there also seemed to be facility bands on the toilet hooks almost constantly, so as to “reserve”a toilet for maybe the same group. The site was unkempt, with hedges not being trimmed, allowing bramble suckers to cross pathways dangerously. Best part was the excellent local pub, with the best steak and ale pie I have had in a long time. We will only use this site as a last resort.....pity, as it could be good, in a great position. Pay the money out Caravan Club.....you need to make this one better

Slightly disappointed

We visited this site from Sunday 23rd August til Friday 28th August. On arrival at 12.00, as per our confirmation email received on booking a few weeks previously, we just managed to pull onto the site driveway off the extremely busy and dangerous A53. We waited behind a queue of vans and discovered arrival time had been changed to 13.00. We had not noticed an email advising us of this change, and it was obvious others hadn’t either, as queues were forming in both directions on the A53 whilst we waited to check in. We had stayed at three other Club sites prior to this (one immediately prior) and could check in at 12.00 as usual. We have visited this site before and like it very much. The top toilet block was closed and in our opinion, two ladies’ and two men’s toilets and showers are not sufficient for a site of this size. Also, having the disabled toilet closed at the same time as the ladies and men’s made it very difficult. Whilst we appreciate the reason for one block being closed, we felt this could have been managed as there is only half the cleaning required in the block that was open. However, the site is lovely and the wardens helpful. We stayed on the lower part of the site this time and the road noise from the A53 did not bother us at all. The site is well located for visiting the surrounding areas and offers plenty of walking opportunities such as Tittesworth Reservoir, Rudyard Lake, the Caldon Canal from Froghall and Cheddleton.

Lovely site

Lovely clean site with very friendly staff. The pitches are large and well spaced With well maintained hedges in between, so you don’t feel on top of one another. We pitched in the middle as we were aware of the reported road noise and are pleased to say we didn’t hear any where we were. The toilet block was very clean but in need of updating. Well situated for The Roaches and Tittesworth reservoir. We look forward to staying here again.

Not impressed

We have just spent the weekend on this site. The site is far too close to the main road which is incredibly busy so road noise was constant. On Sunday new units started arriving from 12 midday and by 12.20pm the queue was out onto the road completely blocking the A53 in both directions because check in had been changed to 1pm. There were wardens on site but they seemed loathed to allow them onto the site to clear the backlog. It was a shambles. We used our on board facilities and were glad to do so as the top shower block was closed and only two persons were allowed in the remaining block at any one time! There’s 87 pitches on this site so people using the facilities were forced to queue in the torrential rain. We were not impressed and so will not be using this site again.

Lovely site

First time we have been to this site, nice clean site, friendly and helpful staff, in good position for visiting tittersworth reservoir. Only down side is we were pitched near to the road, which is very busy and quite noisy especially if sitting outside the caravan.

Well placed for walking and cycling - but Club needs to get it's act together...

Well placed for walking and cycling routes. And we did a lot of walking. Got told off for arriving before 1pm, even though I produced my email confirmation which clearly said arrive 12-2pm. Club needs to get its act together. Wardens were under pressure. The amenity block restrictions worked for us, mainly because most campers were covid-scared, and used their own facilities. Lot of road noise, and the usual yapping dogs. But only five minutes walk to the excellent Three Horse Shoes. Get the impression Club is trying to save money, even though they haven't passed on all the VAT reduction, as grounds maintenance not up to the usual high standard, due to cut in staff... But overall enjoyed our stay!

Fantastic location and brilliant wardens

Excellent site for walking. Did the Tittesworth full circular, the fantastic Roaches and Luds Church and cycled The Manifold Track. The local pub had a very scenic garden overlooking the roaches and good food. The road is noisy so take a pitch at the back of the site. The wardens are so friendly and helpful. We loved our 3 night stay

Good walking areas nearby

Our first trip out this year to ensure everything in our van was up and running. We arrived at the site just before 1.00 as requested ( can’t understand why others thought it was still 12.00) We felt extremely safe booking in using the toilets etc like the majority on site we mainly used our on board facilities. However I did think only 2 ladies and 2 gents at a time in only one toilet block was rather low. I think both blocks should be open with the same restrictions applied. Saying this I was amazed to find that when the open toilet block was being cleaned there was no service toilet available! Due to the fact that the cleaning took place before 12.00 it meant that when you were packed up and ready to leave you couldn’t use either your own facilities or the sites - I think this should be addressed. Other than above we enjoyed our stay and the wardens were friendly keeping everything very clean. We shall cartainly return and look forward to many more lovely walks in the area.
