Watership Down

What a lovely peaceful site, the place was well stocked with rabbits hence the name of the review. The site was very clean and tidy well managed, there was some reconstruction work going on but the destruction was kept to a minimum. Would highly recommend this site to all.

Perfect for catching the ferry

Lovely site in close proximity to both the channel tunnel and Dover port. Very friendly and welcoming wardens, good on site facilities and motorhome service point. There was construction work being carried out but we knew this in advance and it didn't bother us at all. Quiet and peaceful site with ferry pitches separate so you don't disturb other guests and easy to come and go as necessary. Our daughter was fascinated by all the bunny rabbits that shared the site with guests!! Would definitely recommend this site.

Helpful and friendly

The site currently has building work going on but the disruption was minimal.  Very helpful and friendly staff, especially given we needed to move our booking due to a change of circumstances.  Site was clean and tidy, well kept.  Ferry pitch was close to the exit so could head off early without waking others.  Only 5 - 10 minutes to the tunnel.  Will stay here again.

Not the best start to a holiday!

We have used this site before when using Eurotunnel and been happy with the allocation of the pitch. However on this occasion we were allocated a pitch right on the corner where all the traffic passes by. Unfortunately the adjacent caravans all had very early departures, the one next to us left the site at 4.10am. We had our crossing booked at 10.40am so we had hoped for a good night sleep but it was not to be, we had a very disturbed night. Why, if a ferry pitch is reserved, don't they ask for expected departure time from the site? If they did, then pitch allocation could be given to allow for those'early birds' to be nearer the barrier and those travelling later given a pitch further away. Just needs a little thought!

If you tow with a Ford Focus think twice about using this site till building work is finished

I was very disappointed with this site that I used to know well .Due to the building work there are two ramps over the builders electrical cables and my cars front mud flaps caught on them however slow I went over them.I mentioned it to the warden who was very rude to me and said I was speeding .If I went any slower I would roll back off.I spoke to another camper with the same car and he was told he was driving too slow and to go faster . The site is really only for One night stands and not for anyone wanting a quiet holiday. Everyone I spoke to said they would not go back .I went down to Daleacres and was made very welcome and that is were I will be going in the future

Far from peaceful

First impressions were not good, we were given a site plan with very few pitches highlighted for us to chose from, there were lots more empty pitches but we were told not to use them, presumably they were being saved for other people. We were told that the brand new adapted pod next to the lower toilet block was out of use as "the lock is broken" eight days later when we left it was still closed off.  Which seems to be symptomatic of the whole building project, progress appears to be painfully slow, it will be quite some time before the contractors are off site. We were unable to enjoy a lie in as ferry travellers use pitches all across the site meaning we were woken at all hours by outfits leaving from the pitches next to or opposite us, despite the supposed ferry pitches being mostly empty. If you're looking for a restful holiday go elsewhere, we certainly won't be coming back here again.   Overall a disappointing site, the pitches have grass and weeds growing across the hard standing and the lower toilet block is in need of a good coat of paint and a refresh.

Good location for ferry crossing

We've booked a ferry pitch for the night of our arrival from Calais. We didn't know in advance if we could manage an arrival until 8 pm but there was no problem in getting inside to our pitch. Very friendly staff on phone, nice pitch, clean facilities.

perfect stop for dover crossing

the location of this site makes it perfect for ferry or tunnel crossings to France. WE had booked ferry pitches for both our outward and return trips. On the day we were due to return we received a call informing us of the barrier code and where to find our pitch information. We had expected the onus to be on us to ring for the information. However the staff had anticipated difficulties in contacting them and went out of their way to make sure we could stay with No difficulties.

Not great

We stayed one night on a ferry pitch, which was very convenient. Sadly, the site did not inform us either in advance or on arrival that building works were taking place. We were allocated the pitch closest to the work, and had to leave the site for the afternoon to escape the noise. Very poor communication - if we had been told what was happening it would have been understandable and we would have accepted the situation happily.
