Good site close to tunnel & ports

Easy to find and check in. Friendly and helpful wardens. Ideal location for tunnel and ports. We've used it twice recently and had a good sized, level pitch for our MoHo each time. The showers have lots of lovely hot water and while they are a little dated, they are perfectly adequate and better than many - they are very clean too which is the most important thing. MoHo facilities are fine and there is shop opposite the entrance with a good pub a very short walk away. This is a good site and we will use it again.

A good site in urgent need of refurbishment

This was our third stay at a CAMC site so we are comparing it with our experience of only two others. Access to the site was very straightforward: the entrance is off a main road with no need to navigate narrow lanes. The site is divided into two areas, one for short stay customers en route to the ferry or shuttle; the other for normal stays. We spent three nights in the main part. The site was quiet during our stay with plenty of vacant pitches. The site is organised mostly into large blocks of pitches with little character and few views. Our pitch was level and sufficiently large. However, the gravel had been well compressed and was thin and weedy in places. This contrasted with our stay at Grafham Water, for example, where the wardens were regularly to be seen raking and replenishing vacant pitches to keep them in top condition. The wardens were little in evidence during our stay, and the office often appeared to be unstaffed during opening hours. This, again, contrasted with our previous experience. Our main criticism was with the quality of the facilities. The toilet/shower block is dated, rather shabby and in need of a thorough refurbishment. In the gents' block, one of the four WCs was out of action throughout our stay. The plumbing of one of the remaining WCs was unreliable and at least one other was usually found to have been left in an unusable condition (not the fault of the staff but perhaps a reflection on some of those using this particular site as, again, this was much worse than previously encountered). The showers gave a good powerful stream of hot water but their shabbiness made showering less than a pleasant experience. I was glad the site was quiet - the facilities would have struggled to provide a civilized experience during a busy period. My conclusion is that this site - which must do a good trade in the holiday season - is overdue some investment in facilities and maintenance.

Location is good for tunnel, facility block is tired

Handy for overnight waiting for morning shuttle. Have used a couple of times. Ferry pitch prices could do with being lower as you're often there only a matter of hours! The main site is quite nice and has a larger toilet block at the bottom. Self check in for ferry pitches which is great. Usually an envelope pinned to board with your details combined with an emailed barrier code number. Facility block in by the ferry pitches is tired and old - though kept very clean. One hand basin in the ladies loos usually results in a queue!

Useful as a stopover for the tunnel

We used this site as a stopover before catching the tunnel from Folkestone, which is approx 15mins away. The staff were friendly, the pitches were fine and facilities very clean, if a little dated. The TV signal was also good. We would definitely book again if we are using the tunnel.

Nice site, but needs a reburshment

Lovely, wardens. Site immaculate, but some pitches needed more gravel, as a bit muddy in places. Shower blocks very clean, but need to be modernised. Need a drive over drain for grey waste, as an aged lone camper could not lift drain covers. Pub opposite (The Black Horse) excellent. Had a sandwich lunch there and a Sunday roast. Both delicious. Highly recommenced. Road very busy and bus service a bit unreliable at times.

Not too bad…

We stayed for one night before going on Le Shuttle. Pitches were generally good and fairly spacious which is what most normal people want! My husband and I agreed that the shower and toilet block could do with some updating as looking very tired. Showers were good though. Located by a noisy road but this gets quiet at night. Not much to do if you were there for one night onward travelling. However, I’m sure Canterbury and area would be great to visit if you were staying a few nights. Our only disturbance was from 5am onwards with lots of pigeons cooing in the trees above us and eventually non stop hopping and skipping on to our motorhome roof! Perhaps avoid a tree area or hope for the best…

Typical club site as expected

Our friends arrived about 2ish knowing we would be much later and knowing we intended to BBQ together on the Saturday they spotted cones on certain pitches so they asked if it’s possible to save a pitch next to them as we were on our way, they were told no and were told the cones on pitches were for “heavy vans” well we are 3.5 ton but hey ok so we ended up quite a distance from each other, we parked on a pitch and went to say hello to our friends after about 20 mins after arriving the office called to ask what pitch we were on I couldn’t remember I said my wife was on her way to the office via the loo but I was told to go back to my pitch to confirm while on the phone as “the system “ couldn’t be closed without the details? Funny that as when we stayed a few months ago our booking details were left on the board outside and we were told to ket them know in the morning?? Anyway we had a great weekend and moved closer to our friends on the Saturday, I do get no reservation of pitches but we had paid in full and on our way so maybe its just a case of too many rules and not being flexible. Without sounding like im moaning £33 per night come on club prices are getting silly. Nice walks nice put bus stops outside

Great walks nearby - also great pub !!

Wanted to stay localist so stayed here . Very busy main road bit you don’t hear it . We loved it . Lots of walks and the most incredible one through some nearby woods where there were thousands of bluebells !! Site facilities clean and organised . Staff very welcoming and always busy !! Already booked to stay again .

Lovely well maintained site with very friendly staff

We stayed for 2 nights over the Mother’s Day weekend. Had lovely weather on our first day and drizzle when we left but to be expected in March. Visited Folkestone coastal park and walked through to Folkestone harbour arm discovering a new outlet of HatHats for coffee and ice cream. Had good fish and chips from the local takeaway and managed to use the Wi-Fi to watch a film in the evening. The site is lovely on the edge of a village with sheep in the fields next door. It’s a well maintained site with very friendly staff who are happy to help if needed and always say hello when they’re around the site. It is definitely more than somewhere to night stop for the ferry/tunnel with loads of places to visit including Canterbury, Deal, Dover Castle, Folkestone, Hythe and lots of seaside. We will be back.

Glad to hear its going to be getting a refurb, but very handy location.

Stayed here for a few nights before going to France. Friendly warden to check us in, although never saw them around the site, but was given handy info on walks/ nearby pubs and direction to the Tunnel from the site. We had a large hardstanding pitch which was a good size but was definitely looking tired, as I thought the whole site was, so was glad to hear that they will be closed at some point to be redeveloped. I hope when they redo it that they incorporate all the good things about Brighton club site especially the pitch sizes. There is a good length dog walk to a nearby wood, unfortunately we were there in fowl weather so the walk across the fields was extremely muddy which then stuck to you boots like clay, but I'm sure it would be nice in better whether. We also heard mixed reviews about the nearby pub across the road and we didnt get chance to try it but walking past it we thought it looked nice from the outside so would probably chance it should we be there again. I look forward to staying there once its been updated.
