Camping alongside Travellers

Very useful and friendly site, used many times before, however on our recent stay on 12th July we found a group of travellers were also staying there. There were several oversized caravans, towed by non commercial vehicles, which is illegal, some caravans with no number plates on either, I think the group was 8-10 pitches, all grouped together. There were several non towing cars with them that regularly cruised around the campsite, full of men eyeing up the fellow campers which makes the rest of us nervous to leave our vans unattended, along with other info gathering that could be going on…. The additional car traffic made the site far more noisy than usual too. As if the poor wardens didn’t have enough to do, they felt the need to litter pick around the traveller pitches, which would rarely if ever happen normally. Please explain how this situation has arisen and what steps are going to be put in place to prevent this occurring again?

Comment from the Club

As an inclusive organisation, and bearing in mind the law on these matters, the Club do not discriminate against any particular individuals or groups and membership is open to all. With the size of membership that we enjoy, which helps fund the facilities everyone benefits from, diversity across our membership is inevitable. Any unwelcome behaviour from members or guests is always handled appropriately and where necessary, suitable follow up action is taken

Mixed feelings

Can see the appeal of this site for people either catching or returning from the ferry terminal at Dover. Other than that it really doesnt hold any real appeal, lower toilet facilities are dated and the water luke warm and they close at 10am for cleaning which frankly is far too early. Useful shop opposite the side on a very busy main road......pub is a bit weird, not serving food after three on a Sunday. Useful for a bus into Canterbury or Folkestone if so needed. Staff were very friendly unlike many other club sites where they seem to have a poor attitude....makes me wonder why they apply for jobs as wardens really...if you dont like dealing with the public then dont apply for the jobs, leave it to someone who enjoys the camping lifestyle.

A lovely site

Stayed for a few days break. Was met by friendly warden who quickly found me a great pitch close to the facilities. The site is quiet but close to all the main routes. Enjoyed the time there. Has a great dog run where you can let your dogs off the lead. Facilities are clean and close to the pitches.

Great place to stay!

This is a great site to stay at - Tony made us very welcome and was extremely helpful. The facilities are great lovely hot showers with good water pressure. Great place to stay if you want to catch the bus into Folkestone or Canterbury (The bus stop is just outside the site entrance) Drop into The Black Horse pub across the road if you fancy a pint - the staff are very friendly

Staff were amazing

This is the best welcome and check in we have ever had at a CAMC site. The staff, Rachael especially went out of their way to be pleasant and helpful. It would be great if the staff here could train all CAMC wardens because they just made our stay fantastic. The facilities are a little tired but who cares when the staff can’t do enough for you? The staff really put to shame a lot of other Wardens on CAMC sites. Area Manager please take note and give them a pay rise 😁 Thank you guys especially Rachael

Outstanding

Stayed here several times and always the same high quality. The professionalism of Tony and Annette is outstanding. They work tirelessly to keep the site clean tidy and ensure everyone enjoys their stay. The cleanliness of the shower block is testament to their hard work it is spotless, the cleanest of any site we have visited. Lots to see locally, Battle of Britain Museum in Hawkinge is close and well worth a visit. Folkestone Old High Street is full of local independent shops, follow it down to the harbour and wander through to the harbour arm, lots of lovely food stands and bars.

Wonderful site

We have been here twice now and have only praise for the site. Easy access from M20 in normal conditions. Wardens worked hard at looking after the site and facilities to a high standard. Weather was excellent. We will be back.

Ideal stop over for ferry crossing from Dover

Communication from warden prior to us travelling was excellent. They were very friendly, helpful and informative. Due to lorry stacking as P&O ferries were not sailing, we arrived later than planned. Clear information was posted for us (and several others) including allocated pitch given our early departure for the ferry. We were directly opposite facilities block which was very clean and warm. Much appreciated. Good fenced dog walking area on site. Thank you very much for making the stopover easy. Site laid out well to ensure other members who are staying there are not disturbed by members just stopping over for ferry. Road through the village is busy through the night Small shop directly opposite to site. Will be back and would recommend to others. Ideally located for crossing to France.
