We have used Black Horse Farm many times in the past as an overnight stay prior to crossing to France. Now that we no longer go abroad we thought we would use the site as a base to explore the locality. I think the only thing that has changed since our last visit six years ago is that the reception has been rebuilt and some serviced pitches have been added. The longer stay pitches are further into the site so don't suffer some of the disturbance mentioned by other reviewers. It is a pity that when they rebuilt the reception they didn't also take the opportunity to refurbish the upper toilet block. Equally disappointing the the site does not have a drive over open grill at the motorhome waste point. The position of the heavy drain covers means that you could block the exit out of the site. There is an excellent General Store just across the road from the site that can provide most basis essentials. There is a very regular, every 20 minutes, bus service between Canterbury and Folkestone. There is also the Black Horse Pub not far from the entrance to the site although on this stay we did not use it. A few stops to Hawkinge there is a Lidl supermarket. The old town in Folkestone is worth a visit, especially what they have done with the old Harbour Railway Station. However the new part of Folkestone is quite featureless. Canterbury is well worth a visit.
Stay here if you want to stay awake all night!
We only stayed one night which was very lucky. The wardens were great, very helpful and the facilities were old but clean. However, we were on a ferry pitch. The pitch was awful, really tightly packed in and no space to sit out. They are also right up to a very busy road so we had no sleep at all. Motorbikes were reving up at 3.30am, lorries and cars were passing all night. We were booked on the Eurotunnel the next day and luckily we had 30 minutes sleep on the train. Not a good start to our holiday. We will not be staying again.
good stay
We spend one night at Black Horse Farm Club Campsite. The Campsite is about 15 minutes by car to the Channel Tunnel. Perfect for us to get an early shuttle.
There are two toilet/shower blocks on the site, during cleaning times one is always open. A nice campsite with very friendly and helpful staff, we will gladly come back.

Ferry pitches not great
This site is ideal for a stay just before or after the Chanel tunnel.
I booked a ferry pitch which I thought would be a good idea as it’s close to the entrance for a quick exit for an early crossing.
The pitch was just a stoney carpark. No grass between pitches and not pleasant to sit out on.
At £33.40 for one night, next time I would book an awning pitch and get a much more pleasant pitch with grass borders.
Recent weekend stay
We stayed here for 3 nights over the weekend, I found the sight very clean and tidy but it didn’t have the same feel as other CC sites, there was no shop on sight or any take away options visiting site, it wasn’t very busy when we first arrived so plenty of options to pick our pitch, it did get a bit busier but as so close to train and ferry ports a lot of movement as people would only pitch up for a night, convenient if you wanted to use the site for that option but didn’t feel as good if you are looking at staying for longer period, it’s not a site that I would plan to go back too.
Home from Home
We purchased our caravan last week and decided our ‘maiden voyage’ would be close to where we lived. We found the site easy to access, spotlessly clean (‘Sue the loo’ an absolute asset) The park was a comfortable place to stay. We parked next to the children’s play area yet it wasn’t noisy. We noticed a wasp near to where we parked. We reported this and within five minutes the warden has cordoned this off with clear warning signs. The staff were very friendly and professional and gave us relevant advice when we experienced a few hic-ups.
A great place to stay!
Brilliant stay here!
We stayed here as a family of 5 in May half term (2 adults and 3 young children) - we were on a fully serviced pitch no. 72 right near the play area and toilet block (ideal location with young children). We were very impressed with the site and location. The site had lots of families given it was half term but did not feel over noisy. It got really busy come Jubilee weekend.
The site was a great location to drive to Folkestone, Dover. We didn't want to come home and would happily return again!
Another Good Stay
We have recently enjoyed another good stay at Black Horse, wardens very accommodating and the facilities kept in spotless condition, can recommend the White Horse Pub in Hawkinge the food is excellent and the staff very friendly, the proprietor of the shop and post office opposite the site is very jolly and welcoming just be mindful of the very busy road as the traffic often speeds much faster than the speed limit

Big pitches and spotlessly clean
Having returned from Europe my husband and I stayed at this camp site on our way home. We were tired when we arrived and, as usual, the wardens were extremely friendly and welcoming. The pitches were exceptionally large and facilities spotless - we would stay again definitely and recommend it to anyone. The pitches are well spaced out but we chose pitch 52 next to the childrens play area - whilst we thought this would be okay as the equipment is only for small children it was used by teenagers who shrieked and shouted - I can only imagine their friends were hard of hearing and the volume was necessary as my own children never did / have or do need to shriek like this. Unfortunately there were also some very poorly behaved boys from overseas who played & ran through our pitch and around our outfit as well as frequenting the bin area and then threw bottles of water at each other which also hit other peoples outfits - it’s not normal behaviour but their parents seemed absent or unwilling to tackle their behaviour. None of this relates to the site as out of their control and the site made up for it. There are few places to walk to after a long journey as the site is on a busy main road. It would be useful to have a list of places where motor homes can park easily in the area - I would have liked to have visited Canterbury. The only thing that disconcerted me a little was, whilst driving through France the day before we stayed on night of 15th July, we received a phone call asking for us to make payment. At the time it was inconvenient - I was navigating through wildfires. The booking said pay at site and, to be honest, me giving my card details over the phone when it is not normal practice for other sites made me a little wary - happy to have paid at time of booking if it’s an issue for them.

Not yer typical CAMH visit
We were allocated a pitch which was a first for us on a CAMH site, not a problem just unclear why.
Lot of comings and goings as obviously many people are here for one night only. I got up at 6am and the caravan behind us was already gone, there had been a couple of late arrivals as well. Some road noise depending where you are on the site. A lot of on site traffic some of which well above 5mph so I'd be unhappy with small children unsupervised on site. There was a field occupied by a traveller group. Lot of the sound of children playing and dogs yapping in the day but perhaps that's just a contrast to many CAMH sites rather than a problem.
There is a small shop across the road and a local pub. The Canterbury-Folkstone bus goes past the site. Toilet blocks are a bit aged but fine. A proper drive over motorhome service point would be a good improvement. Dog walk isn't huge but nice enough and shady.
I'm not sure I'd use it for a longer stop, access to Eurotunnel is it's big selling point.
