Eurotunnel

Used this site as a stop over for Eurotunnel.  Phoned as required by caravan club to explain stopover and said at the time we had a trailer with car on.  When arrived was told we could park trailer next to Motorhome but lady stressed must park the Motorhome the caravan club way.  The pitch barely took the Motorhome so had to park trailer in car park where the tents were at the other end of the campsite - so in the morning had to drive through the campsite to pick up trailer so what was the point in being given a pitch that would not disturb the other campers.  And still cost us £25 for the privilege.  Warden was ok but a bit brash

2016 August 15th Overnight stay

We have visited Black Horse Farm several times in the past, but never on an overnight/ferry pitch. We crossed from France in the late afternoon/early evening at it was just a step too far to travel up to the Midlands that night. We were on pitch 1, which was very convenient for us - close to the toilet block (we didn't want to set up water and waste just for an overnight stay), and we were in the right position to hook up and set off for home at 5am. The toilet blocks were up to the usual high standard and everything worked well for us.

Take the smooth after the rough

The rough was an extremely hot and fraught journey from southern France via the tunnel. The smooth is arriving (late) at the site, picking up your pitch number, settling in and having a fantastic hot, powerful shower in the immaculately clean facilities, a brew and a decent night's kip in the peaceful surroundings. Even though we were late arriving (the system of picking your details up at the board/cupboard is so easy and hassle free) the lovely lady warden bobbed out to make sure we were OK. She didn't have to but we did feel truly welcome and not an inconvenience. There is a tiny bit of road noise in the morning and the workmen drilling at the bottom toilet block started early. However this is obviously only a short term issue and the object is to improve the already excellent facilities, so you can't complain. Don't be put off, this site is superb and I can't recommend it highly enough. It must be good, this is the fourth year in a row we have stayed.

Superb antidote to chaos of Dover/Calais ferryport

We stayed overnight after a longish drive through Belgium and crossed the channel on a very busy ferry. We had pre-booked this site, using the CC App from our last campsite in Belgium. This was so easy and we liked the choice of a ferry pitch, which turned out to be as big as we normally have! We arrived and were met by a very helpful, friendly and super efficient warden who took our payment and got us on to our pitch within 5 minutes. The pitch was sunny and very well maintained and all facilities spot on. With a shop across the road we had our first cup of English tea in days and spent a very peaceful night's sleep ready for our last leg to Cheshire the next day. Highly recommend this method of European touring for those of us not living close to the South coast.

Back Again

We use this site frequently and love it with the friendliness of the wardens. (Gail we are going to miss you when you move on this year.)  Yes as the other members have mentioned there are some very inconsiderate members especially when it comes to noise early in the morning - it is August so expect noise with families and excited kids off/back from holidays.  We have been on this site at varies times of the year and normally are amongst the ferry pitches to get a good satellite signal, very rarely have we been troubled by noise and are always surprised by the empty pitches around us each morning!  Regarding the toilet block - did the member ask the girls in the men's block to leave, possibly they had just come back from France where toilet blocks are mixed!  To enable the lower toilet block to be given a makeover it will have to be done during the winter period as the upper block was updated last winter, remember this site is open all year round. I find it amazing how negative some members can be, this is an amazing site for staying more than just a weekend with so much to do in the surrounding area, don't miss out by such negative reviews.

Disappointed by noise from early starters

The site is a great site unfortunately some people are inconsiderate, We booked a none ferry pitch for a few nights, the first morning the three opposite pitches were crashing around packing up and shouting plans on who would follow who to the ferry terminal this was 5:30 am in the morning. the noise continued on and off to gone 7:00 am Bottom toilet block was full of very young children first time I went there. Several young girls were in the Male side wondering around no sign of a parent not acceptable in my view enough said

RESCUED BY A WARM WELCOME

We used for an overnight stop prior to catching the ferry so can only comment on that basis. I pay my cc fees because I like the general consistent high standard especially of wash rooms. We used the bottom block. They were clean but getting tired. And don't ask me to say you are child friendly when you have signs with a list of no's eg. Skating I did like the fact the wash rooms were cleaned after 12 as to me it is ridiculous to shut toilet blocks mid morning. All rescued by a very warm welcome.

Poor I'm sad to say

We stayed at Black Horse Farm for 3 nights and I'm sad to its a long way behind other sites on the circuit. As another reviewer stated it wasn't quite the "quiet and relaxed country site" as advertised. If you want an overnight pitch to hit the ferry early the following morning then this is the site for you! If you want a relaxing break id suggest you look elsewhere to another CC site. I was woke up at 5:20am, 6:15am and 6:55am and was staying nowhere near he overnight ferry pitches. More must be done by the wardens  to separate the overnight stayers and the genuine holiday makers!! The male toilet block is out date, dirty and in places in the showers mouldy when you look overhead! My wife said the ladies toilet block wasn't much better. I'm always looking to be positive however sadly I can't be about this site! There is no "relaxed community feel" like other sites we have visited and really enjoyed. The site is run down and in need of a bit of redevelopment where it matters in my honest opinion!!

Not what I expected at all.

We chose to book because the site guide described it as 'a quiet and relaxed country site ( set beside the busy and often noisy main road to Folkestone). We did not find the staff over helpful as the three pitches we were directed to were already occupied and we found subsequent requests for help were not dealt with with any sign of enthusiasm. The site is popular with overnight ferry travelers (which we knew prior to booking but er were surprised to find that our (and many other) longer stay pitch was surrounded by 'blue peg' ferry pitches, the result being that there was constant and usually noisy coming and going from around 7 am then again in late afternoon and much of the evening- not quiet or relaxing at all! To top this the toilets were not always as clean as club sites usually are and one toilet seat was loose on the last morning of our visit. Sadly I doubt we will return which after many club years is a first. Must try harder!

Good Site near to Dover.

We stayed here the night before our France trip and one night on the return. Good facilities, helpful staff and decent size pitches. Will book again when travelling through Dover.
