Quiet and very useful site but beware rabbits!

A very well-kept site with plenty of trees and natural screening. We used it for a long weekend to visit Canterbury and Deal but for most it is a channel tunnel or ferry stop-off. Despite inevitable early departures we cannot complain of noise. If you have a dog you need to know that there are rabbits everywhere!

Quit site

We spent 5 nights here to explore the area, and chose to pitch on the overnight part. It was very good,no noise as most people left mid morning for ferries etc. Facilities were good, very clean. Also well located for lots of places we wanted to visit.

Black Horse Farm

Stayed for one night on our way to the ferry and we're glad we'd booked for 3 nights on our return.  The site is well run, clean and tidy with good facilities and the office staff were extremely helpful. It's the perfect site for exploring the lovely county if Kent and we will have no hesitation booking again.

Very nice as well as handy

After reading some of the other reviews here I wasn't expecting much of this site, but was pleasantly surprised at how, well, pleasant it is. We were there early September so outside the peak season, but it was still fairly full, however it was nice and quiet. We were in the ferry zone, but didn't get bothered by people arriving or leaving, they were all quiet. It would be a nice place to stay to explore the area.

Great site, useful stop off for ferry.

We stayed here one night on our return from France, arriving about 9:30pm. The Ferry Pitches are fine but, as might be expected, there is early morning noise as people leave for their ferries. The cost for the night as a family of four seems high, but the convenience makes it worth it (and we have used it several times before). We've also stayed for a few days on the normal part of the site, which is good CC standard, with plenty to do in the surrounding area.

Ferry Pitches

Stayed on ferry pitch with Aug.Nice staff and facilities, however -- Pitch so sloping needed ramp. Pitch not long enough to leave car connected. ( connecting at 5.0 am no fun) Gravel of pitch mainly dry dust, which trampled into caravan Proximity to road made it very noisy, no need for morning alarm ! Apart from the above very convenient for the ferries.

Not for us

No complaints about the state of the place and the staff were friendly. However, all the petty rules and regulations on these sites together with the unfriendlyness of other visitors put us off so much that we left and found somewhere else to stay instead of actually staying overnight. We had only booked as we had to catch a ferry and had a voucher to use, so we thought we would give it a try. Did not feel relaxed at all while there. Probably fine for families or people who like campsites but not our thing at all, much too confining.

Ideal for tunnel/ferry

Third time we've stayed here prior to early morning trip to France. Lovely site, well laid out and excellent facilities. Would be good for longer stay as close to lots of Kent attractions - something we hope to do at some point

Great for Onward Travel

Stayed here for one night and both ends of our French trip. Wardens friendly and efficient at checking us in. Its always worth remembering this site does have people coming and going at all hours do catch ferries etc. Site currently undergoing work and the toilet blocks currently look tired although i am sure they are due a refurb. Cleanliness was very poor on outward trip but this was 100% the fault of fellow campers leaving them in a right state. Shame! I would definitely stay again.

Abrupt Warden

Hi, we stayed at Blackhorse from the 24/08/16 - 26/08/16 (two nights) having previously stayed there on many occasion.  I was due back to work on the Friday night so I had to go home but my wife was interested in staying longer to make the most of the piece and quiet and also to spend a bit of time with her parents who were also staying there. On the Thursday night she inquired about availability of pitches so that she could extend her stay longer to which she was told there is none but check in the morning as there could be some cancellations. Unfortunately there were problems overnight which resulted in a power failure (not our fault). I went to the ask the warden about availability @ 09:00 were I was met by an abrupt lady who quite rudely told me that as she had no power she couldn't see and to come back in a couple of hours to check (this was awkward as I needed to get home in time to get some sleep before going to work in the evening). My wife then went to see the warden after 10:00 to ask the same question were she too was met with the same abruptness as myself, the wardens comments were I TOLD THE MAN EARLIER THAT I CANT SEE BEYOND SATURDAY WHICH IS FULL BUT THERE IS AVAILABILITY TONIGHT AND TO CHECK LATER, obviously this was not possible as I needed to get home. I know she wouldn't and didn't need to know our pernosal circumstances she also has my complete sympathy regarding the situation on site at the time due the power failure, but there was and is no need to be as abrupt and quite frankly as rude as she was.  This unfortunately made for a disappointing end to an enjoyable couple of days and cap it all there seemed to be pitch availability as my in-laws stayed longer and said that our pitch had remained vacant on the Friday and there were pitches available on the Saturday.
