A very nice, well kept site.

We have just returned home after 18 nights at this lovely place. The site is very small and is very quiet although during one Sunday morning we did hear some ‘crowd noise’ from what we guessed was possibly a small sporting event taking place nearby. It did not spoil our stay. The village is very close and is easily reached on foot. There are a few pubs within a short distance of each other, we only dined at The Three Tuns but we would not choose to visit this pub again. We enjoyed being free to simply turn left out of the site and walk along Icknield Way which is just off the site. The countryside is amazing. Because the site is so small the shower blocks have only three privacy cubicles, two shower cubicles and two toilet cubicles in both the male and female shower blocks. The site is very well maintained, and the Wardens are very efficient and very friendly. They are also very, very helpful. This was our first visit to the site and without a doubt we will be returning when possible.

Excellent!

We love this site and have stayed on many occasions. It's a very peaceful site, the access is great and the space between the pitches is generous. The quality and cleanliness never falters, thanks to the extremely hard work of the dedicated and friendly Wardens! On this trip however, we were dismayed by the thoughtless leaving of showers running and the fact that some don't seem able to clean up after themselves or their dogs. The site is extremely well situated for trips to a wide variety of places, such as Cambridge [the park and ride is only a 20 minute drive away]. There's also Wimpole Hall and other NT properties not too far away - all well worth a visit. Hitchin is a little gem of a market town and Letchworth Garden City is also worth a visit [the museum is very interesting]. The three pubs in the village are all good, we particularly like The Rose & Crown and The Three Tuns - good food and choice of beers. We also recommend Crumps, the village butchers, who have an excellent choice of homemade pies / cheeses etc. The Village Magazine [on sale in the Warden's office] is always worth a read as Ashwell is very lively and there's usually something going on.

Great little site

This was our first CMC site stay, having only purchased our caravan a few weeks before. The site is spot on, with the nearby village offering everything a young family could need. We're already booked to return!

Enjoyable stay

We used this site twice within a week or so on our way out and back from our trip to the cotswolds. Not too far off our route, it is a nice quiet well kept site. Very friendly helpful wardens, will use this site again if travelling this way.

Peaceful Retreat

A small site meeting the high standards expected from a club site. The friendly warden team were extremely helpful and in no time at all we were ready to relax. Facilities were adequate for the time of the year and occupancy level, however at the height of the season I wonder if the shower/toilet block is enough. The local village of Ashwell, less than a 10 minute walk away is beautiful, with many buildings full of character, some springs, a lovely church, a village shop, 3 pubs, and also a tea house. Two of the best nights sleep we have had in our motorhome, so quiet and peaceful, this must be a delight to stay at during the spring and autumn, we shall most definitely be returning.

Great little site.

I stayed here for 21 nights and have to say it is a great little place to stay. The facilities were kept clean and tidy and have very good spacious showers. It was very peaceful. Good walks around the place, easy access to main routes, although the village of Ashwell can be a nightmare to navigate! The permanent staff are friendly, polite and can't help enough. I will definitely be coming back.

What a little gem!

Recently stayed 2 nights at this site and were very pleased with what we found. The welcome was warm and the toilets and showers were spotless and lovely and warm. The village of Ashwell is absolutely beautiful with 3 pubs serving food. We went to the Bushel and Strike on both nights and the food was incredible. We had 2 courses and a bottle of wine for £25 per head. Sadly the owners are moving on in January but the good news is that they are moving to Baldock to open a Restaurant - so all is not lost. We will definitely be visiting again..

A little gem

There is absolutely no doubt that this is a site we would return too. It’s very small which we like, clean, tidy and well kept. The showers were spacious and more powerful than some and, especially important in the winter, the block was warm and snug. The location is excellent with the village immediately to hand on one side and open countryside on the other with loads of well marked walks. Whilst there are no views the pitches are well protected by trees which in an otherwise flat landscape does mean there is a good barrier against the inevitable wind. It was very peaceful the days we were there with no local barking dogs or early risers. The warden’s were lovely too. All we want to do is walk and relax rather than see the sights so for us the site is perfect. I wouldn’t recommend it for families with small children as there is no play area but for us grown ups and the dog it hit the spot.

Wonderful Quiet Autumnal Break

Such a relaxing atmosphere that starts from the moment you walk into reception! Nothing is too much trouble for our hard working wardens at this site. The site is well sheltered from the prevailing wind and despite torrential rain from 10:00 pm Friday to 2:00 pm Saturday our pitch no 2 was never water logged. Ashwell is a gorgeous village with lots to see and do in the season.

Great base for home from home, but...

Five yards out of the site gates and you are in open countryside on the Icknield Way where you can walk, cycle run for miles. The site is quiet and the wardens are knowledgeable about the area including places to visit and where to eat. On the downside, the toilet blocks are starting to show their age and we had some issues of workers going off site at around 6 in the morning. Will definitely be going back.
