We had 5 days here at the
end of June great site very helpful wardens Kenny and Laura they go the extra mile for you. You do get the odd midge but no more than the rest of the sites in the north of Scotland. A little tip if you have an hand held vacuum dyson etc ideal for sucking midges, flies, mosquitoes etc. Plenty of wildlife to see fishing is good caught a few brownies and one sea trout all on fly. Been their many times and it never disappoints.
Great 4 days at site. Peace and quiet and lovely views. Numerous sightings of red deer close to sight and lovely walk right from the door if you have dogs.
The only downside was a misunderstanding of the fishing rules. Perhaps the wording in the info on the internet should be changed to FLY FISHING ONLY as my husband was approached by a very upset warden when fishing with rod and line. Also info in guide states late night arrival area which there is not.
Warden was very accommodating and allowed us onto site when we arrived later than planned.
Beautiful site, very clean, a credit to the wardens. Will definitely be back. By the way, hardly any midges, no more than anywhere else we have been at this time of year. Definitely recommend if you like walking and wildlife.
What has happened? The site is looking better than ever, the surroundings just as stunning, the wildlife amazing and the wardens excellent and very friendly and helpful, but in early July when it should be good and busy it was almost deserted. The guide talks of midges; I didn't meet one over two days and it has never, in my experience of over twenty years of visiting Altnaharra, been anywhere near as bad as other comparable sites. I think the club needs to remind people that this is one of the most special sites the Caravan Club offers and should be a must for anyone who loves beautiful countryside, nature and enjoys an amazing experience.
A lovely site and a very helpful and pleasant warden. The facilities (waste disposal, fresh water, rubbish)were spotlessly clean. I have rated at 4 for facilities as there is nowhere for motorhomes to dump grey waste. This is due to the constrictions of the site itself and I fully understand that. The warden (Kenny?) had a waste water trolley that he was lending to motor homers as you can't get near to the grey disposal point. However I think that in these circumstances, and with a lot more motor homes visiting sites nowadays, perhaps the club should provide 3 or 4 of these caravan grey waste trolleys for use by motor homers on the site.
A gem of a site for peace and quiet I would certainly recommend it and hope to return.
Lovely pitch at side of Loch Naver. We stayed 5 nights and even enjoyed staying in the van for one rainy day. Thanks to the friendly and helpful wardens, Kenny and Laura we went on a trip to Cape Wrath by ferry and mini bus, an interesting experience. Being in a motorhome was definitely an advantage as we used our facilities and had an early lunch in the van while we waited for the ferry. Two great cycle rides from the site with good sightings of wildlife. We'll definitely be back.
The location of the site is spectacular in it's splendid isolation. The wardens were extremely helpful even by caravan club high standards. We experienced a storage unit failure shortly before arriving which was stored in their workshop for the duration of our stay which was really helpful.
The tranquility and location of this site is well-documented. It was just what we needed in the middle of our tour, coinciding with our anniversary. As we arrived in our large motorhome, Kenny came running down the path to guide us to a choice of pitches. After a mutually enthusiastic chat about motorhomes (he is a big fan of the N & B Arto) he helped us set up, lending us an extension mains cable (ours was too short) and his own personal Wastemaster (as no MW dump on site). We felt he went the extra mile to help us and we enjoyed some interesting chats during our stay there.
What can I say that hasn't already been said. We spent 3 nights here pitched on the loch side, ideal for launching kayak and watching wildlife including an eagle and a water vole which was just outside the 'van window.
This is a truly amazing site. A jewel in the Crown of caravan club sites. Stunning scenery, peaceful and tranquil. The wardens are very friendly and helpful and you can even buy things like chocolate crisps and icecream! We saw deer, black throated divers, sandpipers and newly hatched oyster catchers to name but a few. Many people return here year on year. No loos and showers is a small price to pay for such a wonderful experience. We have always come in June and never had problem with midges.
We visited this site in April, after seeing a picture in a Caravan Club Magazine. It is just amazing, so very peaceful and relaxing. The scenery is stunning and the wardens were lovely and very helpful.
It's a very long way from my home in North Norfolk, but so so worth it.
