Back to nature.

It was quite a surprise when we rolled up as we had done no research (or even read the CC book properly) other than looking for a site within that area. We were just trecking around Scotland with no pre planned itinerary so we phoned the site to book late the same day of arrival. We asked if we needed to phone just before arrival and were advised 'no we will hear you' I didn't realise what they meant until we arrived! Remote is an understatement and the wardens are literally parked along side the single track road that skirts the Loch. We were greeted by the friendliest of wardens and as we were the only ones there were given a choice of pitch (with some guidance on the best spot). What a superb site; wonderful views across the loch, good pitches suitable for motorhomes, excellent dogs (or people) walking, totally relaxing, spotlessly clean facilities (water and waste only) and wardens the club should be proud of. There were a few essentials for sale in the office but other than that it was bit like wild camping with facilities. 20 odd miles in any direction for shops so go well stocked and forget the tv and wifi unless you have satellite. Phone signal was good though. So, we were caught totally by surprise but what a wonderful surprise and we will definitely gong here again.

Tranquility at its best

This is a back to basics site as there are no facilities other than electricity and sanitary disposal however this is made clear before booking  If you enjoy fishing, canoeing, walking and cycling in tranquil surrounding then this is simply the best place to be.

Forget the Rat Race..

It can only be described as remote. Trying to tell the better half that "yes there is 20 miles further to go & yes it is like this for the rest of the way" on the road from Lairg. Big thank you to Gina & Ross for their welcome and helpfulness having done the journey in one hit. It goes along way. Can't wait for the next trip.

and then the wind dropped:

This is without doubt a stunning, but remote site (be warned... it's a 50 mile round trip for a paper). No TV signal (but I was getting DAB???) yet surprisingly strong phone signals on Vodafone and 3. Our first few days we were hunkered down sheltering from a "bit of a blow", but then the wind dropped and the midges came out. Perhaps they're out late due to our poor summer this year, but they were hungry - so take your Avon Skin So Soft...

Wonderful, peaceful site.

This site has no toilet or washing facilities, so beware of that before going. But apart from that, it is a gem of a place - the lochside situation is beautiful, and so peaceful. The wardens are extremely friendly and helpful. It's not too big, so you don't feel in any way "packaged". Well worth the journey to get there. The only minus was - the midges ! However, a kind neighbour recommended "Smidge", and we can confirm it is the best anti-midge treatment we've tried so far - better than "Skin-so-soft". Can thoroughly recommend this site.

Redeem Club Sites

Great location, simple site.  But the big surprise were the wardens they have redeemed CC for me they could not have been more friendly or helpful.  A complete contrast to others where brusque professionalism is the best description I would give. Fishing available and possible from the shore, with right gear it is entertaining, but no monster fish to be had. Will go again.

Altnahara .

An excellent welcome from Ross and Gina . I agree with all the other reviews with a couple of caveats. Dogs must be on a lead more or less all the time. I had not seen a sign of any sheep when two popped up from the bracken and took off. One plunged into the loch and swam out some way. Luckily it eventually came back ashore. As for fishing from the shore - nothing doing there , much too shallow for many yards out. I had heard that someone caught a nice sea trout, and there must be some there, but it turned out that he had used a tube thingy and floated out to deep water. Not exactly shore fishing as advertised to my mind. Otherwise a bonny wee spot.

Keep it a secret!

It must be one of the wonderful secrets of Scotland, but then there are many:) We only stayed one night because of plans we had but I would recommend it to anyone who appreciates stunning scenery and a beautiful, tranquil loch side location....breathtaking! I awoke at 5.30 am to the sound of nothing and captured a quite remarkable sunrise on camera. Why were there only 6 caravans/motor homes on site? The site wardens couldn't have been more friendly or welcoming. With no toilet facilities I do wonder if a simple toilet/shower block would attract more visitors. A gem of a location, with a pub 3 miles away and a shop 20 miles away!

Lovely. Just lovely.

We've been coming to this site, pretty much annually (although sometimes twice a year), for 25 years now and the fantastic thing is that it doesn't change a bit! That's the beauty of this place. Oh yes, there was a period when John replaced the waterpoint taps for push ones, but Ross put the conventional ones back a few years later. And there's now a reassuring sign at the Pillars junction ... but that's about it. The wardens that are given this site are always special people - they always understand the members who come here and are ready to engage and chat, but keep away at other times. The current incumbents, Ross and Gina, and very, very nice and helpful people. This site is special. It's difficult to get to, but worth every mile. The weather changes almost by the minute and one can get four seasons in a day easily. The colours of the hills change with the angle of the sunlight. The pace of life slows. All is well. Until the wind drops and the midges come out of course, and then things are NOT well ... but the wind gets up again fairly soon and they go back to the grass! If you like fishing, it's perfect; if you like walking, it's perfect too. If you like history, it's surround by ancient (and not so ancient) "happenings" with are fascinating to look out. We don't really go for any of those things - we go because it's just lovely!

Naturliebhaberplatz

Sehr freundlich. Absolut ruhige Lage. Wer fischen will, kann dies tun mittels eines Tagespatent. Absolut empfehlenswert für Naturliebhaber.
