One of my Top Ten sites.

Went to Altnaharra in Aug 2016 after a visit to the Edinburgh Tattoo and staying on a large very busy commercial site. What a pleasure to arrive at this small quiet spot by the side of Loch Naver where I felt a million miles away from any hustle and bustle. The approach to the site is very easy even though the last 20 miles or so on the A836 are single track there lots of good size passing places. I must mention the wardens, Kenny and Laura, as there wonderfully relaxed, welcoming and efficient way of running the site was just perfect. They made everybody feel at home from the moment you arrive - thanks to you both.

A lovely site in a stunning location. We loved it. To be right by the loch and in such a quiet and remote spot was lovely. We were able to enjoy trips to the fabulous north coast via the Kyle of Tongue from the site which was a high point of the holiday The staff were friendly and helpful. However, facilities are limited particularly for motorhome so, so be aware before you go but the location makes everything fine!  A lovely stay. Thank you.

The Favourite

We have fallen in love with this place. Having phoned to say we would be a bit late, we arrived about 6pm. The warden was having his tea but came out to great us and showed us the available pitches. Site small with variable shaped "pitches" but what a stunning location. Quiet, peaceful, surrounded by nature. Approached by miles of scenic single track roads this is the place for peace and tranquility. Within minutes of our arrival we had seen red deer, a sparrow hawk flying past us, and buzzards. We just enjoyed the site for what it was and feel any "improvement" like a toilet block would spoil the feeling of being away from it all.

About as far away from it all as you can get.

My husband and I originally booked into this site for two nights but fell in love with it immediately and extended our stay to six nights. We knew there were midges around in the summer here so arranged our stay there in May and managed to avoid the little biters. It was so peaceful and Ken and Laura were so helpful and friendly and kept the site clean and tidy, even to the extent of clearing up droppings from the freely roaming sheep every day. The site is in a fantastic location. Just remember to stock up on food etc. as it's around a fifty mile round trip to the nearest shop and fuel station. We gave a four star rating for facilities and cleanliness only because there are no toilet and shower facilities which is made clear in the site information. Don't be put off by the colour of the drinking water which comes down from a nearby reservoir - it makes a terrific cup of tea and tastes good. Also, towing a 26' caravan down the surrounding single track roads never gave us a problem.

Spectacular site with spectacular views

What a week, gale force winds, rain, midges but all that could not detract from the spectacular views and the warmest, most friendly welcome from Kenny and Laura, the wardens. Even during the worst of the weather, Kenny was out and about checking on the residents. Don't let the weather or the midges put you off.

Wonderful site in wonderful location

We stayed here for 10 days in August and although the weather could have been better it in no way diminished the pleasure we had on such a well maintained site. The wardens Ken and Laura are to be commended for their friendliness and attentiveness and to making our stay enjoyable. We picked the site as we were looking for a peaceful break and that is just what we had, the views over the loch to Ben Klibreck are stunning and there are some enjoyable drives around with equally stunning views. The only reason for the 3 ticks on facilities are due to the fact that there are is no toilet or shower block but you know that when you book and it no way diminishes the effort the wardens put in to keeping the site tip top.

A superb site and a superb welcome

The Grummore Caravan Club site at Altnaharra on the shore of Loch Naver is a wonderfully quiet site with fantastic views of the loch and Ben Klibreck.  The welcome was warm, friendly and very helpful.  Ken and Laura, the Wardens, are to be congratulated on a well maintained site and for their ability to make us feel very much at home.  We chose the "eco" area of the site and experienced the freedom of caravanning as it should be - with plenty of space around us.  We shall definitely be making return visits to this site.

Friendliest of sites

Fantastic little site in the Highlands. Peace and quiet. Two of the best wardens we have met. Always time to stop and speak and help in any way. The type of site encourages the other residents to pass the time of day making it so friendly. Exciting watching the low flying aircraft pass over the loch. Varied nature on your doorstep. Will be back soon.

Gem of a site

Last minute decision to stay here while touring North Coast. Loved it - my favourite site. Kenny and Laura were friendly and super helpful, and kept everything clean and tidy. There was a lovely atmosphere among those staying at the site. Location by water is great, tranquil and relaxing. Saw golden eagle every day, plus red deer nearby. Don't know why the campsite details specifically mentions midges - they are no more of a problem here than anywhere in the Highlands. In fact, less than some sites because you are right by the loch and likely to get any breeze there is. I would take midge repellent wherever I was staying. Helps to remember that midges tend not to come out when the sun is shining or the wind is greater than 4 mph.
