Beutiful peace and quiet

This site is located right on the shores of Loch Naver, twenty(ish) miles down a single track road but well worth the journey because the scenery is stunning. The site itself is very well maintained and the hosts, John and Deborah, are very friendly and helpful. There is plenty of opportunity for walking and exploring the surrounding countryside and watching the local wildlife. Wild deer graze on the nearby hillside and eagles soar above. If you're looking for peace and quiet, surrounded by beautiful scenery then this is the place to be. One thing to note though, although John and Deborah have a few basic items for sale at the site office, make sure you stock up with food and drink etc beforehand as the nearest shop is at least half an hour's drive away.

Beautiful place to stay

We stayed here in August for nearly a week. Looking out every morning to an unobstructed view of the loch and Ben Kilbrek felt amazing. A very quiet site but the wardens made us very welcome and were always willing to advise on local visits to interesting places. A trip down to the Shin Falls on their recommendation watching salmon jumping the waterfall, not something you see every day. Herds of red deer can be seen from your pitch if you keep a look out. Fly fishing from your pitch is a new one for me, for a better chance at hooking a brown trout take some waders as the loch is relatively shallow at this point. All together a spot I hope to visit again.

Wow what can you say about this site.

We decided to stay here as we were touring Scotland and wanted an out of the way site. It is stunning and so so peaceful. Not so happy about the brown water and bought the bottles provided in the shop. As we hired a motor home we thought it would better not fill the tank with the water from the site as it may invalidate the warranty if it stained anything. The nearest shop etc is about an hour away so make sure you take what you need with you. A wonderful experience and one not to be missed.

Perfectly relaxing

Stayed here whilst driving route 500 in our motorhome, it was so worth the extra 20 miles, I wish we could have stayed longer, but we will definitely be back!! The scenery is breathtaking, the silence is compelling and the walks are worth the effort!! The warden was so lovely and helpful and knowledgeable, in my opinion this was my favourite site in our 2 weeks away!! Thank you!!

Wonderfully relaxing stay

We stayed at this site for 7 nights in late May and loved it. We have a twin axle caravan and must admit that we didn't have a problem with the road to the site but care is needed. The wardens were really helpful and friendly from the moment we arrived, coming out to welcome us, to the moment we waved goodbye! It was our first time visiting the site and where it normally takes us a few days to unwind by the next morning we were thoroughly chilled out. The scenery from the site is gorgeous and you can visit the North Coast by travelling up through Glen Hope which is a really lovely route to choose. Plenty to see and plenty to do with walks close by but also a site where it is just nice to sit outside and just enjoy it. We came with a well stocked fridge but also bought fish from the visiting Fish Van and a few extra bits and pieces from Tongue and Durness so no issues there. We will definitely come back very soon.

Outstanding Location

We have visited this site before, and the location is outstanding. Situated on the banks of Loch Naver the views from the pitch are beautiful in any weather. The location of the site is along a typical Scottish single track road with passing places and although a couple of miles from any facilities i.e. shop or pub it is a really tranquil setting. No toilet block, but water and waste facility as you would expect from a club site although Motorhome emptying is via a bucket - no drive over. No phone signal and wifi on site but a 20 minute walk up the hill behind the site and we had contact with the 'outside world'. The wardens did say the wifi was been looked in to, but its not a huge issue. The walks from the site and the local area, really were fantastic and on each occasion we were met by herds of deer, the wildlife is stunning. A fabulous location, great welcome from the Wardens and a superb few days.

Peaceful lakeside location

Lovely place on the shores of Loch Naver. We stopped off here on route to Betty Hill and I'm glad we did. Peaceful tranquillity in a remote location, it was delightful waking up to that view. Ok no showers or toilets, but we have our own facilities on board. The drive to get here has been described as 'not for the faint hearted', basically long windy single track road with passing places. This is fine if your camper/caravan isn't too large. Friendly wardens full of advice and things to do.

Magnificent Highland location

Just a wonderful spot on the shores of Loch Naver. Magnificent views, and wild, so one has to accept the lack of facilities (toilet; shower) but more than made up for by the location, location, location...

Fantastic

Yet another fantastic stay at Altnaharra. Great wardens, very friendly and happy to give advice on walks etc. Weather wasn't fantastic but managed to walk every day. With fantastic scenery and loads of wildlife to watch the weather didn't really matter. We were looking for a relaxing peaceful getaway and found it here yet again. We'll be back! Great for families if they like getting out and about in the country side and back to nature
