A Lovely Spot

We have stayed several times at the Altnaharra Club site and love the tranquility and the surrounding scenery. The location by the shore of Loch Naver is perfect and having visited at different times of the season the views, landscape and wildlife can be varied. Access to the stunning North Coast is a relatively short drive away and recommended. And lets not forget the site managers who are extremely welcoming and keep the site in tip-top condition.

Remote & wild Scotland

Lovely remote site by the shores of Loch Naver. Wardens friendly & helpful. Make sure you bring chocks if you're in a motorhome. Easy to launch canoes or swim from the site. Some good hillwalks a short drive away. No wifi onsite, we knew this before we travelled, but can get 4g in the village of Altnaharra (3 miles).

Soooo peaceful

We stayed for just the one night during a trip around Scotland, but we will be back. What a little gem this is. If you like peaceful setting surrounded by nature and water you must give this a go. Despite no toilet or shower facilities, this is a true gem of a site. We were lucky enough to have red deer, whilst out walking. It is off the beaten track but if you like a drive then this is also a great reason to visit.

Tranquillity Base

Thoroughly enjoyed the tranquillity and remoteness of this location for the two nights we stayed. Plenty of wildlife around though we missed seeing any eagles. Easy cycling to the Rosal Settlement which was interesting. Upon leaving we followed the unnumbered road to Loch Hope through desolate but stunning scenery, past hordes of deer and the Dun Dornaigil broch, to reach the A836. Fairly narrow but worth the effort.

Does exactly what it says !

Read the description carefully and you wont be disappointed. We knew before we went that there were no toilet or shower facilities and we also knew that the water quality couldn't be guaranteed so we were prepared with our own supply. We met a gentlemen who only stumbled upon these facts when he arrived! The site is on a single track road but it is deceptively busy with articulated lorries, delivery vans, cyclists and, of course, cars, motorhomes and caravans. We were hoping to use our bikes but for me it was a bit too risky. However, just over the road is a good off-road walk and you can see the remains of old buildings and there are info boards to explain what used to be on the site. If you are more adventurous you can obviously walk much further! The site has the odd sheep visiting from neighbouring fields but the wardens kept the site clean and free from sheep poop so it just added to the rural feel. The shop on site was well stocked and having ice creams available was a real bonus! I've marked this down a bit on 'good for families' bearing in mind this modern world that we live in, but if your kids are into nature, birds and all things to do with the country they would have a great time.

Altnahharra - blissfull

Booked 4 nights mid to end may 2021 and the site really does look like the photos and videos. It is a little above rough and ready camping with pitches tucked away into the hillside or along the driveway / entrance. Not all pitches are dry in the rain. When the rain did hit our pitch was puddles and mud - particularly under the awning of our caravan (advice here is dont bother with an awning). The booking in was straightforward but did seem to concentrate on what you shouldn't or couldn't do rather than the positives. This was backed up by the warden making a mistake and rushing down to chastise us for having the waste pipe connected without the end being in the hog. I did have to point out to him the legs where still in process of being put down and that means I ain't going inside to get the waste hog or the water pump until all is safe .... I think he got the point an made a strategic withdrawal - would have been nice if he had asked if we needed his help in any way but hey ho such is the effect of living remotely as a warden. So after a shaky start being bothered by an over zealous warden, the 4 night stay continued and we did move out of the puddle and mud to a drier pitch for the last night All in all this was an enjoyable stay and I would recommend it for those wanting to get away from it all and it really is that so be prepared and take EVERYTHING you need for the duration including bottled water - a least 5 litres a day

Fabulous site

Stayed for one night at the end of April 2021 and so glad we did the site was just what we had been looking for and if we had known we would've stayed longer to totally unwind. Great welcome very informative and thorough run through of site procedure. We will be back if we can get booked in.

Perfect Peace

Can't say more than that - just perfect peace and quiet yet well situated for touring some fabulous Highland and NC500 destinations. Just be brave when driving on the single-track roads. Take your time, it's the Highlands!

Amazing site

Sadly only stayed at this wonderful site for 2 nights before the covid closures but give it 10 out 10 both for its stunning setting and lovely wardens Paul and Linda. Cannot thank them enough for the help they gave us to ease our long journey back to Wales. Looking forward to returning when all this is over.
