We stayed here for the first time at February half term, 2 family caravans with 4 children ranging from 9 to 15.
The site is located on the edge of a residential area backing on to woods. Listen out for the foxes and woodpeckers and see if you can spot the parrots.
The site has gentle slops but all pitches are flat and they have a generous amount of hard standing pitches. The toilet blocks are clean and functional.
Each morning we took a short walk to the train station where you can catch a direct train to either Charing Cross or Cannon street stations, journey time approx. 30 minutes (coming back there is a train every 10 minutes from Cannon street). We used a family rail card which can be purchased for a small fee but it made the cost of 2 adults and 4 children for an all-day travel card (bus and tube included) £25.00!!
If you don’t fancy a trip in to the capital each day Greenwich is a short bus ride or train ride away, with its market, naval college, royal observatory and the Cutty Sark in residence, you can also pop to the Thames Barrier.
There is also the DLR service at Greenwich which will take you to Stratford where the Olympic Park is. This is one site we will definitely be returning to.
Very good week
we had a very good week there lots to do and see in and around abbywood 6 miles to Greenwich and the navel collage you can get the water bus form the pier to the tower or central London it take s 20 mins or it 2 hours by bus train is fiddly to many changes there were 5 of us so we got the day rover you can get on and off all day I HAVE A MOBILITY SCOOTER IF YOU RING THEM first with your scooter details thy will wend you a card you can not just get on this bus with out it
Simply the best!
This is probably the best site we have ever stayed on.
We went for a long weekend and used the late arrival area with a hook-up as arranged. This was fine although it is outside the security of the site.
In the morning we were greeted by helpful polite staff and took our plaace on the site. The site is a leafy haven in the suburbs surrounding it. It is spacious and the plots are flat despite the general slope of the site. The toilet blocks are immaculately kept.
The location of the site is a few minutes walk from a 180 bus stop to Greenwich and a few minutes more to Abbey Wood station for a short hop into Greenwich. We left very early one morning to get to Billingsgate and a local mini-cab met us at the gate and took us to the DLR station at Woolwich for £7. We will definitely use the site again for weekends in London.
Great site
Love this site! second visit as spending a long weekend in London visiting our daughter. Very friendly and helpful staff on arrival, beautifully kept, peaceful, leafy spacious site with immaculate shower/toilet blocks x3, can't fault it and saved us a small fortune not having to stay in a London hotel for 4 nights.
A big thank you to the lady who left us a bottle of wine at reception. We found a beautiful pendant which we promptly gave to reception, so glad it has been reunited with the owner :)
An oasis in the middle of metropolis
A wonderful tranquil site despite being only a few miles from the City of London. Well set out site with lots of trees. Plenty of room between pitches. Wardens have this site looking immaculate both with all the washing and toilet facilities and on the pitches themselves. Look to the North and you could imagine you are in the countryside. Littke noise except the planes landing at London City Airport but virtually no traffic noise. Easy access to London via Abbey Wood Station. Take the Riverbus from Greenwich along the Thames for a different experience. We stayed 3 nights and paid a fraction of the price of a London Hotel.
Do use the Caravan Club directions, Sat Nav is not advisable.
Definitely will use this site again.
What is there not to like...
I've stayed at Abbey Wood a few times and being one of only two CC sites inside the M25 it is invaluable. The site itself is very secure and quiet considering its location.
We always use the train once on site - the station only being a few minutes walk away - and come 2018 the new cross rail service will get you into central London in 12 minutes! Even now the journey into London isn't a chore and with so much to do you'll need to come back again and again.
During my last visit I was working on 12 geology time trails in south east London (each 1-2 miles long). They are designed for non-experts and one of the trails starts from Abbey Wood station, taking you to a site close by where you can find 55 million year old shark's teeth! Find out more here - http://www.audiotrails.co.uk/discovering-sharks-teeth-in-south-east-london/
The wardens on site are very friendly and helpful and if you time your visit right you can be the beneficiary of free sweet chestnuts too!
Always a great site
We stay at this site at least once a year always friendly staff, clean & tidy site. I can think of no bad comments to make

A gem of a site
Our first time at this site, and what a gem it is!
Firstly, it's very easy to reach from the Dartmouth Crossing, all dual carriageway until a mile or so from the site. Secondly, it's ideally situated for London, with Abbey Wood station only 5 minutes walk and the 180 bus to Woolwich (change for onwards) even closer. Note that the station is closed at the weekends as a new station is being built. Thirdly, superb facilities and welcoming staff. Fourthly, a rural, quiet location - but don't leave your shoes outside ad the foxes will take one (?).
All in all, thank you for a great stay and we'll be back.
Highly Recommend
It was our first time at Abby Wood and what a Gem.
We stayed 2 nights on the first night we arrived late and the staff were extremely helpful.
The train station is down the road a 5minute walk. It is under construction at the moment but the station have put busses on to take you to the next nearest station that takes you straight to Tower Bridge.
Abby Woods staff are so helpful and the site is super clean. We'll be back again. ??
Unexpectedd gem
The entrance to the site has huge steel gates, however do look further. Sandra and her husband the wardens, will be leaving the site and transferring to Devon. They will be a very hard act to follow. We have met her several times over recent years and the welcome has never changed......insults, jokes, but a lovely approach. We sadly had leave due to family illness, and again, her understanding of our situation meant a great deal. The site, full of trees and only 15 minutes walk to a main line railway to London. Thank you one and all for a lovely time.
