Lovely site for Christmas and New Year break.

We have recently returned from a seventeen night stay at Firs Cottage over Christmas and New Year. Brian met us on arrival and after choosing our pitch, he explained the facilities to us and some areas of local interest. Although the weather had been wet in the days preceding our visit the site was clean and tidy and clearly well looked after. The pitches are fully serviced, each with a water point, ehu and grey water disposal. There was a central, discretely hidden toilet emptying point, complete with a hand cleaner dispenser (a very nice touch not seen on other sites we have visited). There are no toilets or shower block but that was not an issue as we use our on-board facilities. By the entrance gate is the waste and recycling area with clearly labelled bins and a dog poo bin. Centrally situated is a small but packed information shed with lots of information on the local area, some home made produce and books and other items. The site is well laid out around a central green with bird feeders, bird nest boxes and insect nest boxes around the site. We visited nearby a Much Wenlock, which has some stunning old buildings and a priory. Firs Cottage is located centrally for visiting Bridgnorth, Shrewsbury, Bewdley, Ironbridge and Telford. Lots of National Trust Properties and English Heritage properties within a reasonable distance, the Severn Valley Railway is close by at Bridgnorth and well worth a visit as I would imagine, are the various museums in Ironbridge (we didn’t get to visit them on this occasion). During our visit the weather was wet and I was unwell so we did not get out to explore the area as much as we would have liked. However I would like to say that Brian and Alison are great hosts, attentive to their guests and have made Firs Cottage, for us, the best CL we have visited in five years caravanning. We can’t wait to return to the site in better weather and for us to explore the surrounding area. The local birds must be some of the best fed in Shropshire and made for some lovely entertainment whilst we were in the caravan.

Great site and marvellous hosts

Firs Cottage was a great find for a frosty weekend away in our motorhome. Brian could not have been more helpful in explaining the site facilities and access to local places. We borrowed a local OS map from the information room, and ramps (which stupidly I had left behind) and spent a few days exploring the immediate area. We particularly liked Much Wenlock with its abbey ruins and dog (and mud)-friendly cafe on the main street (Tea Junction) - walked there directly from the site up the bridleway. As it states on the CL description, you cannot walk onto Wenlock Edge from the site without a difficult walk along the B road with fast traffic but the National Trust (free) car parks are not far away from the site and there is no height restriction at the Much Wenlock one. Brian explained that discussions are on-going about getting walking access to the edge from the site. Great to have a personal tap! And owls! Many thanks.

Great cl

We recently spent 5 nights at this excellent cl. We were welcomed by Brian, who explained the site and facilities. It is exceptionally well kept, even during a wet October. We are motorhomers and so we drove out every day to visit the Ironbridge sites. Access was easy and at this time of year we didn't have any difficulty parking at the museum car parks. Ironbridge Station Years car park was only about 25% occupied so we parked there to view the bridge. Due to local works the coach spaces were filled with portakabins. We took a chance in a car space for 2 hours, We hope to return in the spring to visit the remaining sites on the museum passport ticket.

Wandering Along and Wondering at Wenlock Edge

Great site, all hard standing, perfect lawns, quite wet underfoot so did not put canopy up over grass for fear of spoiling it. Brian Rowe the owner is a fantastic host, it got quite exciting when my wife and Brian though they might be related, sadly this turned out not to be the case. The old iron Bridge to Craven Arms railway used to run along the back of the site, nothing left of the railway, but there is still the old railway bridge. Wenlock Edge is on the other side of the B4372, in the other direction, over the old railway bridge, you can walk up to the tops. We were here for a long weekend. Saturday we walked to Much Wenlock. Set off at 10:30. Went up to the B4372 and walked along it (in the wrong direction), towards the National Trust Wenlock Edge car park where you can get onto the Shropshire Way. It’s a relatively busy road, with fast travelling cars. I was alway told to walk towards the on-coming traffic when walking along roads without pavements, but what if there is a sharp right hand bend coming up and the on-coming traffic can’t see you? Anyway we did not have to go as far as the car park as we found a small path that led up to the Shropshire Way. Great walking along Wenlock Edge, it really is an edge. When we got near Much Wenlock we picked up the Wenlock Circle path and followed that for a bit before turning into Much Wedlock itself arriving at 12:30 (we walk slowly). There was a small market under the Guild Hall, we bought some cheese. The Guild Hall itself is a fantastic building, little museum upstairs and you can see where the shire court used to sit. Lots of timbered houses and quaint cottages. Also a little museum opposite the Guild Hall which is worth a look (shuts at 13:00 on Saturday). Much Wedlock’s most famous resident was William Penny Brooks who is credited with inventing the modern olympics (at least according to the Much Wenlock museum). Had a nice pub lunch in the Talbot Inn, staff were great. Then up to Wenlock Priory, the “must” see attraction in Much Wenlock. The priory is in ruins, but you can see how immense the priory church once was. I found it strangely peaceful sitting in the priory garden, the sun even came out for a short while. Next cream tea in the "Tea On The Square" tea room. It was now 15:00 and threatening rain so time to head back. We walked back over the fields, well sign posted (most of the time!) and arrived back from the opposite direction to which we started, circular walks are always good. Took us two hours to get back but we tend to walk slowly and dawdle on the way looking at things. I would do the same walk again.

Fantastic CL site! Peaceful & quaint.

Upon arrival, we were met by Alison & Brian who made us very welcome. Showed us the available pitches and the info hut etc. The site is quite and impeccably maintained. It is adults only and close to the quaint village of Much Wenlock. There is a quiet lane you can walk your pooch and it goes for miles! Shrewsbury is only 12 miles away and has every shop you could possibly wish for. I have no hesitation in recommending this site to one and all. It is one of the best CL sites we have visited in our 10 years of caravanning!

Magic

Spent 7 nights at "Firs Cottage" from 21st July. The site came highly recommended and it certainly didn't disappoint, site was pure magic wonderfully kept, the grass/flowers/bird feeders which all brought a variety of wild life onto the site. We enjoyed our stay in Much Wenlock and surrounding area were blessed with wonderful weather during our stay but would expect "Firs Cottage" would be wonderful regardless what the weather was like. Owners of the site were very friendly and helpful nothing to much bother certainly top of our list when visiting Shropshire George and Geraldine Poppy the dog

Little Gem,Beautiful Site.

We have just returned from a 12 night stay on this site. Firs Cottage is a beautiful site we love love this site, this is our 3rd year of coming here and won't be our last. Brian and Alison are such a lovely friendly couple, nothing is to much trouble for them. The site is immaculately clean, the glass is kept lovely, Alison and Bran work so hard to keep this site looking so lovely. The pitches are all hard standing with room for your awning, water and electric on each pitch great. Lots to see in the area but its also lovely just to relax on the site as it's adults only and watch all the wildlife around. Oh and you must try Alison home made jam lovely on toast in the mornings, We cannot praise this site enough and its so will deserved. We feel we have made new friends. Our favoutive CL site by a long way. Am difinateley voting as our favourite CL site of 2019. Ted + Fran

Loved this site!

We stayed here for four nights in mid July and were very impressed. It really is immaculate and the owners were very welcoming. We loved the site and the surrounding area so much that we will definitely hope to return in the not too distant future, and there can’t be a much better recommendation than that!

Fantastic.

This is one of the best CL site's we have been on. Alison and Brian are great down to earth, Alison met us on arrival and showed us the ropes. The site has loverly well cut lawns round each pitch and hard standing for your caravan and owning, with room to park the car. There are lots of wild birds flying round the site, they have a information hut which is great. You can see they have worked hard to get this site spot on, and having all service pitch to every pitch is great, If you have forgot your pipes Brian will sort you out. All I can say well done Brian and Alison. We will be coming again.
