Fantastic Peaceful CL

Stopped at Crofton site after seeing pictures of the walled garden and the runner up award. It lived up to all expectations. Beautiful lawns and nature area, all facilities tidy and well organised. Has a very classic, rustic kind of feel to it. Good showers. Cheese and chocolate shop on site. Very peaceful and lots and lots of room between some of the pitches. Owner passed by and checked to see if everything was satisfactory, nice touch. Will return !!

A great place to relax

We have just returned from a short two night stay at Crofton Hall CL site. From the moment we booked this site with Claire via email to the moment we received our instructions for arrival by return email and our subsequent arrival everything was smooth and a credit to some good orginisational skills. As someone who is interested in history as soon as you arrive here you can't but notice that this is a place with some good historical stories to share. The site itself is big and very well laid out with some big spacious pitches. In fact some of the biggest pitches I have been on. There is also a tap at the pitch so we were able to have the added luxury of a seviced water connection. The pitches are private and made even more so with the good looking greenery between the pitch. The perimeter wall is the original wall from the Estate and adds to the historical, rustic feeling. Over in the corner is a comprehensive recycling point with a grey water drain and chemical toilet point. In the centre of the site there is a small cultivated nature reserve which helps to attract birds and wildlife to the site. The bathroom is a small walk away with a key coded lock. The bathroom has a couple of wash hand basins , couple of toilets and four showers which have plenty of hot water. All the areas in the bathroom are clean and well looked after. Crofton Lake is over the road which seems a regular haunt for the local angling club, but is also a nice wal round too. If you like cheese then there is home made cheese to purchase at the cheese farm to the rear of the site, We had a lovely cheese and crackers night in our caravan on Saturday night. Wigton is 3 miles away with Lidl, Sparr and B&M with a good selection of food takeaways there also. Well done to Claire and thanks. We will certainly be back again in the near future.

Wonderful CL

We have just left this CL today after 4 fabulous nights. This site is a credit to its owners Claire and Philip and it is obvious they have put a lot of time and effort into making it a little gem. Claire has even planted some herbs which you are free to use.It is a large site and the pitches are huge so you feel very private and it is very quiet and peaceful there. It is partly walled with a central nature reserve area . The facilities are great, water tap at each pitch and plenty of bins in a corner of the site. Toilet/shower area whilst being off the main site is very clean with no less than 4 showers !! From our telephone call last week to enquire about availability we found Claire very friendly and welcoming and it is obvious she wants you to enjoy your stay. This is a great example of how CL's should be run and we look forward to returning again

Peace near carlisle

A very clean quiet site. Handy for Carlisle, and the north Cumbrian coast. We stayed 6 nights on this visit but will be back again before the year is out. Although the toilets and showers are ma short walk from site they are kept very clean, with electric shower with removable heads. Anyone who likes cheese should visit the cheese farm at the back of the buildings.

Amazing value for money. Fantastic time. Suitable for all.

We have just returned from Crofton Hall CL, and I can only say it was a shame to leave. I have come home very relaxed after a couple of short days, and could of easily stayed longer. The CL was easy to find, and we had been e-mailed our pitch number which was also easy to find. The pitches were the largest I have ever seen, with EHU and water on the pitch. Grey and black waste have a designated disposal area which is first class. The toilet and shower block is a short walk across a private road and is kept very clean. There are also tourist information leaflets here, as well as books and games that can be borrowed. There is also a display of Wol's, which are fabric owls that Claire and here daughter have made. They look amazing and are also for sale if you wish to take one home. I did have my eye on 'Gilbert', but alas he had to stay where he was. There is also a table tennis table, and the bats and balls in an under cover area away from the pitches. There is another grass area suitable for children to play away from the pitches. Claire came to see us on our first night to make sure we had settled in ok, and collect the outstanding fees. She is such a lovely and genuine person who is very focussed on excellent customer service. The welcome was so warm and sincere it felt like we had come to stay with a close friend for the weekend. The site is well located to see many attractions. We only made it to the Gretna outlet, and a little bit of Hadrian's Wall. But there is plenty more to see with Carlisle been a very short distance away and good access to the North Lakes, or the Cumbrian coast. The site is suitable or all, old or young, couples and families. Crofton Hall is not an expensive site and offers amazing value for money. It can offer you a great location for a quite couple of days away, or be an ideal base to explore the many attractions in the area. I hope we can find time to return, and if we do, it will definitely be for a longer visit.

Amazing Time

I stayed here for my very first outing in my caravan. Never drove before with a caravan in tow so wanted somewhere near by. The pitch was really big and was great for my first time reversing! It was very quiet, clean and has a nice cheese shop near by. If anyone is staying round this area I recommend you try it out. Price is great too and even had a direct water hook up!

Friendly peaceful site

We visited this CL over the weekend 8-11 March. Although the weather took a very cold turn with snow on the Sunday night (frozen water on Monday morning) we did enjoy our visit and hope to return. Claire called on the Friday evening with her children and dog to welcome us and collect the payment. Like the previous reviewer we had booked by email and had been allocated a hard standing pitch so were set up and comfortable before she came. The site is well sheltered being in a walled garden and I imagine is wonderful in summer. We like having water on the pitch (not having to haul the aquaroll around is always welcome). The toilet block is newly refubished and very clean and pleasant. We look forward to returning. Richard and Bobbie Thomson

Peace and Tranquility

We visited this site for the first time over the weekend of 08 - 11 February 2013, we were allocated our pitch via email, prior to arriving and were able to drive straight onto it. Over this weekend, we were the only users of the site, so the peace and tranquility was unsurpassed. The site is very quiet, situated withjin a walled area, the warden, Claire, came to welcome us to the site once we had settled in. Claire was very friendly and told us about the site and the local attractions around the site (i.e. Cheese Farm and Chocolatiers). We did discover the Chocolatiers later in the afternoon, and were offered some free samples, which were gratefully accepted (well it would have been rude not to). The Cheese Farm, whilst not producing cheese during our visit, did have a very nice selection of locally made cheese, which went well with the selection of wines we had taken with us.

Unfortunately, due to heavy rain, we became bogged down in our motorhome when attempting to empty the on-board grey waste tank, just as we were leaving the site, Claire came to our rescue by requesting the owner of the site tow us to solid ground with his tractor.

Apart from this slight mishap, I can thoroughly recommend this site and will certainly be visiting it again during the coming season. Richard & Anne Smith
