Stayed here a number of times, mainly when working in the area but have holidayed here aswell as it's within easy reach of Carlisle, the Lake District & Scottish borders. It is extremely spacious with tall hedging between each pitch. Excellent toilets/showers. Lovely surroundings with large fishing lake across the lane for dog walking. Claire & Phil have been managing it since it opened and they're still doing a great job. I've uploaded a short video to Youtube of site arrival and facilities.
Had a week here in early June (fabulous weather). Lovely secluded hardstanding pitches in a large old walled garden. Water as well as electric on the pitch. Very sheltered and tranquil. Nice bathroom facilities a very short walk away in the old stable block. Only met the owner very briefly on the last night. Explored Carlisle, the Solway Coast and the northern Lakes, with a couple of amazing day walks on the fells. We would return.
Caravan and Motorhome Club CL Site
Set within a walled garden, massive site for 5 pitches set around boundary with central tree copse, main area grass, Friendly site manager, Calm and peaceful site.
5 pitches, electric and water to each pitch, Pitch Size is excellent approx 10m deep by 12m wide, each pitch separated by hedges. Hard standing for caravan and car, pitch awning on grass.
Grey Water and Elsan disposal on had standing covered area.
Unisex Family area wc (2 number) whb (2 number) and Shower area (5 number) is approx 50m off site within small business courtyard area, accessed via keypad. Facilities are well kept, clean and within easy reach from the site.
Also within the small business area there is a chocolatier, providing exceptional hand made chocolates they will also give you a viewing of the process (depending on how busy they are and a Cheese Producer with excellent product range of sheep, goat and cow cheeses plus a few oddments to accompany the cheeses.
Adjacent to the site is Crofton Coarse Fishing lake which provides an easy morning stroll approx 3/4 mile long.
Currently the owners are refurbishing cottages adjacent to the site (the works are not intrusive) to provide accommodation for additional small business - we believe a marshmallow business to be set up in one of the units.
We are a couple in a motorhome. Note.....Follow the good instructions to arrive, to miss difficult bridge. Dont be alarmed by the long lane drive to the site. We turned off twice before seeing the club cl sign.
Very spacious pitches, around, i think, the old hall kitchen garden. All hard standing, with water and E/HU. TV reception for us was difficult on pitch, but we moved half on/half off to gain signal. Toilet/washroom facilities are the quirky bit, as they are adequate, clean and tidy, but away from the pitches, in a rented style unit along with other businesses in the old hall stabling . Good fishing in the adjoining lake, but expensive, with the lake a nice walk around.
The site is away from shopping, so arrive with what you need
You might not see any owner, but instructions/contact by e.mail etc are very good, so the place is self sufficient, and easy to stay in.
We were well pleased....
We have used this site on a couple of occasions when in the area. The last time here we spent the week and cannot add anymore than whats already been said. On that occasion the last 2 days we were the only unit there so talk about peaceful. If when reading these reviews and you have never stayed here and looking for some where to stay in the area. Then you cannot go wrong booking here. The only problem you may have is that it may be full when you do try to book.
This is an ideal site to unwind and enjoy the countryside. The pitches are the biggest I have ever seen and are so well kept. They are located in a walled garden and they are very sheltered. We stayed August Bank Holiday Weekend and it was so quiet only having 5 pitches. The family bathroom could do with a little tlc but was still better than on some sites we have stayed. There is a lovely walk around a lake just across the road from the site that is owned and maintained by Carlisle and District Anglers Association. The fishermen were friendly but we did keep our dogs on their leads and spoke quietly. Carlisle is close and the Castle is a lovely place to visit. Getting to the site was really easy if you follow the directions detailed on the website. Claire the owner was very friendly when she contacted us by phone with regard to our arrival time. We did not meet her personally. We are looking forward to booking our next visit soon.

I have stayed here numerous times when in the Carlisle area. I dont look anywhere else as this is my favourite C.L . The sites main attraction is the peace and quiet and as said earlier , large private pitches. Carlisle is a good visit with The castle and Tullie house museum to name a few.The Solway coast is close and Keswick just down the road (20 miles).Hadrians wall is not far away with roamn forts .Clare keeps a superb site and as much as I want to keep it a secret I feel others would enjoy this gem. I only hope I can get in next year.
Just returned from a relaxing break at one of the best kept secrets in Cumbria. Crofton Hall offers everything you need, from enormous pitches which offer hard standing and a grassed area to excellent shower/toilet facilities (albeit a short walk away)
The site is very well drained so access to your pitch should pose no problems even in a large twin axle van. A 5 minute walk and you're at a picturesque lake which is an added boost for anglers and is well stocked. The lake district is on your doorstep just waiting to be explored, what more could you want?
