Our second visit in twelve months the first last August for one night and so impressed we are back for a few nights now in late April
The pitches are excellent and the entire site is well maintained WC/shower facilities are a short walk away offering and are clean but basic Crofton cafe on site is wonderful find breakfast and lunches are not to be missed and the glass shop next door has something for everyone.
A lovely walk around the fishing lake next door very suitable for those with mobility issues including wheelchair users
Carlisle and the Solway coast are very close and the northern Lake District is only a short drive away
I’m sure we will return very soon
Lovely Site
Lovely site and everything was great including the pre site arrival instructions which is good as we didn't see anyone all weekend.
Our only slight criticism was the family bathroom which despite having male and female toilets and 4 separate showers, it can only be used by one person or family at a time which must cause queues at peak periods.
Superb Site
We have been here quite a lot over the last 4 years and loved every minute. It's well looked after and peaceful. The pitches are level and huge as is the site. the owners are very nice, helpful and understanding as we have had to cancel twice this year due to issues with a new van.
Local shops within a 10 0r 15 minute drive, the lakes maybe a 40 minute drive but well worth when you can come back to such a peaceful place and relax.
A lovely site
We've been here before and its been upgraded since our last visit 3 years ago. I have to confess I made a mistake with the booking (by 2 months!). A quick call to the owner and a lot of apologies rebooked us at the last minuite - very fortunate as this is a popular site. All the facilities are well laid out and easy to access. It's a really top notch site.
Tranquil place
A beautiful location. A great setting within the Hall’s walled garden.
A level site with electric and water to each pitch. The pitches are separated by tall hedges, giving you lots of privacy and room to sit outside in your own space. The grass is cut and collected a couple of times a week. There is a wild area in the centre of the site attracting lots of birds.
Didn’t use the shower but the loos were lovely and clean, couple of minutes walk from the pitch.
You have to drive to either Wigton or Carlisle for shops. We chose Carlisle as it had more choice. However, there is a farm shop on the Carlisle road, which had a good range of food stuffs.
Good road and rail access to areas, we enjoyed visits to the northern lakes and had a great day on the Ravenglass railway. Hadrian’s wall Birdoswold Fort was interesting. The best day out was to the “Dirty Porridge “ museum near Annan, really great place, who knew a nine mile long factory was built there, well worth a visit.
Will definitely return for another holiday .
Tranquility
Large pitches in a large CL. Incredibly peaceful. You have plenty of space. No plots are overlooked, electric and water on the pitch but not grey water drain. We booked pitch 2 which at the time of booking was in a corner under the wall and was booked as would be a sun trap. Due to water logging the CL has moved the pitch to a new location. New immature hedge etc.but perfect for evening sun and not overlooked. Will be great in a couple of years when the hedge is grown. Although hard standing check your levels. Owners friendly.
The good bits - massive pitches, very quiet and private. easy from the motorway, but watch the directions. Do not approach from the arch... the google map directions in the link on the website take you that way despite the site telling you to take the other road....The less good bits - I prefer an elsan point with a screen around it. The dump point was a bit open for me. Due to covid the shower and loo were closed. We are happy to use our van facilities.
Check the CL is actually where you want to be, its not in the Lake District. We took trips to the Solway coast, Buttermere and Siddaw, Keswick etc. All 20 minute + drives. The local walk was overgrown and we abandoned it. The fishing lake is nice for a little walk, our dog is now terrified of geese. A visit to the cheese and the chocolate shops is essential. Lovely products.
Recommend Johns Plaice fish and chip takeaway a couple of miles away.
Overall a lovely week.
Beautiful
This site is all as others have described but as a motorhome owner it is not an area for walkers, busy main roads to negotiate, difficult to find straight forward paths ,but lovely area if you have a car. The little lake is nice and plenty of fishermen. Bought cheese from the little shop.
Love our motorhome

A Perfect CL
This CL is immaculate. It has huge hardstanding pitches but with plenty of grass as well. Electricity and water supply at each pitch. There is a very easy online booking system to use.
There are pleasant walks from the site and easy access to the Lakes, Carlisle and the Borders.
It sets the standard for what a CL should provide.
Superb
All I can say is we keep going back, the site is magic and plenty in the area to do and see. Just go and enjoy the peace and quite.
The Perfect Site - best we've visited to date
We had a lovely time during our 10 days at Crofton Hall. Having three dogs, we like to go to CL sites because they are not so busy as the main sites. We struck lucky here! The pitches are all extremely spacious which allowed us to pitch our large twin axle van and park the car next to it on the hard standing, whilst still having a large area of grass on which to pitch our awning. We were on pitch 2 which had a large thick hedge between ourselves and pitch 1 making it extremely private The equally spacious other pitches, all separated by hedges, were over on the other side a good distance away as the site is enormous. The landscaping is lovely with lots of trees and a wildlife area in the centre. The TV signal was good and the convenience of having a tap on each pitch was a bonus. Having the added bonus of the toilet and shower facilities which were kept immaculate was the icing on the cake. The dogs thoroughly enjoyed their walks around the fishing lake, as did we, and we now know quite a bit about carp fishing from talking to all the anglers.
There is so much to do in the surrounding area without having to drive miles. To name a few places: Carlisle Castle and Museum was very interesting and make sure you visit the Cathedral as well which was beautiful; Lancercost Priory which also had a lovely tearoom next to the parking area; Birdoswald Roman Fort followed by a delicious meal at the Samson Inn in Gilsland; Lowther Castle which only has the walls standing but has been landscaped by Dan Pearson to make the most beautiful gardens and parkland; Allonby Beach though make sure you park in the village to get onto it so you don't have to wade through water, Siloth West Beach was miles of sand and more or less deserted with the town having a beautiful grassed promenade area for picnics and more walks; Mirehouse and Gardens by Bassenthwaite Lake with the Old Sawmill Tearoom next to the entrance; Caldbeck for a lovely river walk. This is just to name but a few places in the area. All of the places I have mentioned welcome dogs which is our main criteria when planning trips.
We will certainly be going back to Crofton Hall. Try it yourselves, you'll love it.
