A gem of a place

A great place, large pitches well marked. Toilets were spotless and site was very well kept.Peaceful, apart from Friday evening when something was happening in farm building on other side of the wall!! It is a working farm after all! Will definitely be back here next year.

Flies

We went to this site for the 2nd year in June and were on pitch number 5, Another person said about the smell from the cow shed, well we were the same and from the middle of the week, we were inundated with FLIES,I now it was summer but we  could not sit out , or even inside it was awful. We even went and bought a can of fly spray. Must have killed about 20 in a day, shame because we really liked the site

Great Site

We arrived and couldn't believe how big the site was set in the grounds of the hall.  Each pitch had plenty of space, own water, hard standing for your car and caravan plus grass for awning and sitting out.  There was a little farm activity but nothing that bothered us at all.  The facilities were clean and nicely laid out.  The site is dog friendly with walks around the fishing lake opposite the site.  Great location for exploring Carlisle, Keswick and Cockermouth.  Definitely one to stay at.

large pitches....but!!

On arriving at the site we were impressed with the size of the pitch but once we got set up we realised there was a huge cow shed behind the partition wall which smelled really pungent and was unable to set up and eat outside. The facilities were adequate but didn't appreciate the fact that men and women share the same shower and toilet block as there was 4 showers you never knew who was in the next compartment which didn't have full height doors and I felt very uneasy using them also they didn't have an external light at night .

Very spacious CL

Just returned from 5 nights at Crofton Hall. We have never before enjoyed such large pitches, each of which has its own water point, with good dividing hedges between. The facilities are of extremely high standard, equivalent to Club Sites. The visits to both the cheese shop and small chocolate factory, within the complex, should not be missed! The CL would be improved if children were supervised and not allowed to run all over the site, spoiling the peace for other caravanners.

Wonderful site

A truly amazing site. Beautifully laid out with loads of space and hedges between the pitches. Great having a tap on each pitch. WC and showers really good. TV and mobile reception 1st rate. Excellent waste disposal and recycling area with a light that comes on when you approach in the dark!

So peaceful

We are so pleased we found this CL site, It is so well thought out and looked after. The pitches are so big and have small hedges to keep you private between each pitch. The toilet and shower block are kept spotless. Dont think I will praise it anymore because we wont be able to get in another time.

Fantastic spot

A superb location, as long as you note the directions, easy to get to, but heed the warnings re the narrow arch!  A blackboard welcomes you with your pitch number on turning into the huge site. Massive French like pitches with lovely seperating hedges await, freedom of how you pitch. The walled garden is a tranquil sun trap and full of wildlife. Cracking facilities notice board and information point in toilet block a short walk away with keypad access.   Good walks from site with fishing lake across the road, a busy fishing spot but tranquil and wildlife aplenty. Longer walks available too. Good roads to Coast or Northern Lakes for trips out, and good local shops, with Cheese and chocolate shops in walking distance.  Claire friendly and helpful, we will certainly return.

Just excellent.

We stayed for 6 nights last year but this year we came back for 14! Despite the worst of the Cumbrian weather we managed to keep the awning in place in 45MPH winds and the howling blizzard as we were leaving, we did have some sunshine in the middle and towards the end. Claire, as usual is very welcoming and the site is superbly located.
