Welcoming site

Recently returned from a few days at Birch Hill and what a lovely find. Hard standing pitches, carefully disguised with grass, ehu and a tap for each pitch, along with excellent views. We were welcomed by Ian who explained everything clearly and quickly settled in, probably due to the fact that it was throwing it down (the day since described as the wettest October day since records began). Despite that we really enjoyed our stay, Ellesmere is a lovely place and we only wish we could have spent longer around the mere. We would definitely visit again.

Lovely views

Just had a long weekend at Birch Hill, our first stay at this lovely CL and it won't be our last. Has lovely far reaching views from all pitches. The "hard" pitches are grass with the plastic grills underneath so no problems in wet weather. Plenty of space around the pitches too - 3 in one part of farm and 2 in the lower part with plenty of water & power points. In summer when ground is hard you can pitch anywhere and there is loads of space so will be nice to do that, but was definitely too wet in October so the hard pitches were fine. The bins etc were emptied regularly and all very clean and tidy with recycling and hand sanitiser provided. The site was lovely and peaceful and owners very friendly and welcoming. Ellesmere is a nice quirky little town with independent shops and a few proper pubs/places to eat. It's a 25 minute easy walk into Ellesmere from the site with a pavement all the way. Went for a lovely walk to Colemere which was in the really handy leaflet given to us on arrival. Would highly recommend this site if you like peace, quiet, lovely scenic views, a walk into a town and plenty of space. Also glamping pods too for friends / family which are in a separate area from vans. We loved it.

Outstanding

Even with a wet day in September and Covid19 to cope with, our reception at this CL was efficient and welcoming. Our pitch was perfect with lovely views and the area including Ellesmere and the surrounding lakes excellent. We will be back!

Superb Site

We have just had a 14 day stay at this wonderful site. It was nothing short of excellent in all respects. Beautiful views, quiet, spacious and immaculately kept with ample water and electricity supply points. Ian and Janet were so friendly and helpful. We were supplied prior to our arrival with comprehensive information about things to see and do in the area together with shopping and emergency contact details. Ian and Janet were always on hand if any assistance or further information was needed. This is definitely one location we would recommend and will definitely return in the future.

Wonderful week

We had a warm welcome from Ian on arrival who gave us a tour of the site and explained the Covid 19 rules. The site is very roomy and therefore no social distancing problems. Our dog thoroughly enjoyed the space and freedom to play. The location is great for walking, cycling and sightseeing. Ellesmere is a short distance away and has lots of amenities for visitors. The Greek Restaurant is worth a visit. We would highly recommend this site and we are already booked for a further stay and looking forward to it very much.

An Excellent site

We stayed here for a week in mid-August. Ian welcomed us and went through the Covid-19 protocol with us. All the safety precautions were excellent. You even get your own tap! The site is peaceful and there is plenty of space between vans. You can place your van any way you choose, and for us that is really important. We hate being lined up like soldiers and having to be precise as to where you place the middle of your van. Ellesmere is very easy to get to, and there is a footpath into the town which is about a mile away. I shopped at Stan's supermarket and again the Covid-19 protocol there was excellent. Sadly, because we were shielding we were unable to sample the restaurants or the other lovely shops in the town. We will be back and hopefully we can do that then. There are plenty of walks close by and all in all we would highly recommend this site for its cleanliness; its peaceful location and its proximity to local amenities.

Peaceful site with great views.

Glad to be able to get onto this wonderful site and can see why it’s so popular. Great directions to site. Easy access and a warm welcome from Ian, with a walk around to show good spots to set up. This gives you plenty of room between vans and the best views. Site is well maintained, with plenty of water points and a dog walk on site. Due to site having great views and it being so relaxing and peaceful we didn’t venture out much but there are plenty of touristy places within easy reach and Ellesmere alone has lakes, parks and canals to explore. Will definitely be back.

Birch Hill July 2020

Very well maintained site. Excellent welcome and informative tour of the site. Several pitches to chose from all with EH and water. Full COVID precautions in place. Dog walk directly from site and several footpaths very close by. Ellesmere and its lakes are an easy walk either via footpaths or along the A road which is paved. My only concern is that many of the older footpath 'stiles' are poorly maintained and some are not very dog friendly. Fortunately our dog is young and working but even he struggled at some. The approaches to the 'stiles' in many places are also overgrown. We would definitely recommend this site and would like to return at some point.
