Why stay here ...

An award-winning caravan site in the beautiful lake-lands of Shropshire. Voted ‘Best Small Site’ in the UK by readers of ‘Practical Caravan’ magazine in 2014, 2013 and 2012. Caravan Club "CL of the Year" 2007. Regional winner 2006. This family-run site was established in 1982 and is on a quiet field with easy access on a former farm.

Featured in the Club Magazine in February 2005 with the following praise: "a nice CL from which to marvel... spacious... hook-ups... woodland walkies track... information packs for newcomers... Great Site, lovely location and always a warm welcome..." The owners are active caravanners and Club members in their own right.

Ellesmere is a friendly little Saxon market town in the middle of Shropshire's beautiful Lake District. It marks the junction of the rural Shropshire Union and Llangollen Canals. The CL enjoys pleasant panoramic views across a wide expanse of green gently rolling hills and on a clear day you can see 9 counties.

A good base for a short stay or longer holiday. The CL is just 2 miles from North Wales and within 20 minutes to about an hour you could be at one of three UNESCO World Heritage Sites or numerous castles, historic houses and National Trust properties. Birch Hill is on one of the main Land's End to John o'Groats cycle routes and Ellesmere is a lovely spot for country walks and bird-watching, especially around the Meres.

The site is located over 200 metres up a private drive. It is discretely away from the public road with pitches in sight of the farm, which is in a pleasant, safe, rural back-water. Access for caravans is good, with wide gateways and a Tarmac drive. The drive is about a quarter of a mile from the lane, which reinforces the feeling of a quiet secluded site. Birch Hill is close enough to a quiet 'A' Road to give easy access, but far enough to be away from road noise.

Please check our website for availability and booking calendar.

Dogs very welcome (owners have a Golden Retriever called Amber).

Dedicated tap for each pitch situated nearby.

Free Wi-Fi at this CL.

We stayed here last weekend. Beautiful site and we received a warm welcome with a helpful welcome pack. The facilities are great ie EHU, Elsan point, recycling bins. It’s a great place to stay and is near to many local attractions. We were in a motorhome so be prepared, it is quite a trek into the town. The town is very much a market town with some lovely shops - a lot of which don’t open on a Saturday as Tuesday is their big day. However the town is lovely and there is a great sculpture trail around the town and the wharf. There is a good network of public footpaths around but there are many stiles and these are not dog friendly (fenced or boarded underneath) and so you will have to lift your dog over - we ended up quite filthy due to the paths being muddy and having two medium sized dogs. The dingle is a short wooded walkway at the bottom of the ste, it runs alongside a stream and was very pleasant.

Lovely site, owners very helpful,a very quiet and peaceful site.My only problem was transport, I was in Motorhome and I have slight mobility problems.

Birch Hill
Cannot believe they have no taxis around Ellesmere and there are no buses that go past the site so I was disappointed that I couldn’t get around too much, because of my mobility issues. I’ve still given an overall 5 stars because I loved the site and area

If you're in this area this is the place to stay. We were visiting local NT properties and we found this site was just what we wanted. Our weather had been attrocious but the pitch was firm and level. Thanks to the arrival pack and app we found a good restaurant & deli. My apologies for reversing off your pitch onto the grass; I'm sure it will recover!

A warm welcome received on arrival with a very helpful information pack. Lovely surrounding countryside and nice and quiet. Close to Ellesmere/ Oswestry and othe places. Ironworks at Oswestry well worth a visit. Good telly reception. Internet was a bit in and out but you’re not here to spend time online and can’t blame anyone for that. Would stay again and thank you
