One of our top sites

Beautiful site, large and airy with spectacular views over rolling hills of Shropshire to Wales . Pitches can accommodate awnings and wind breaks easily. Meticulously prepared from the easy to book website and comprehensive information sheet to the warm welcome by Ian, Janet and Amber. I agree with a previous reviewer that the main road is busy with heavy traffic. We were able to cross the fields and stiles with our spaniel but the road is the only downside. The Mere is a lovely walk with refreshments and plenty of seating on the north west shore. This was our second visit. We will visit again.

Excellent peaceful CL site

Picturesque location, lovely views and so peaceful. Ian and Janet are very welcoming and maintain the site to the highest possible standards. The pre visit information is top notch, especially as we are new to touring. All in all an excellent site which we would recommend highly and intend to re-visit.

Brilliant small aite

what a wonderful and personal involvement you receive via email before your arrival with hints and tips on local restaurants and places to visit, we were greeted so warmly by Ian and Amber the new mummy golden retriever. We chose our spot and that was it pure peace and quiet for a week, we saw a Hare most mornings and rabbits and squirrels. Location is so central to Wales and Shrewsbury, we didn't have enough time to visit all the places we wanted so will be coming back. It has spoiled us for other sites now. You are not on top of other caravans, lots of space for our dogs and awning. Ellesmere is beautiful we walked there most days with the dogs, cafes and pubs very dog friendly especially the Red Lion as they have a dog menu!

Pleasant six day stay

We arrived ahead of our allotted slot but Ian was on hand with a welcome and local information pack. We were shown around the CL and were free to choose our pitch which we chose on the lower field as we were not reliant on a good wi-fi signal plus our dog is better with her own company. During our stay we visited Cholmondeley castle gardens, Hawkstone park follies and Ellesmere & Oswestry. All in all a lovely quiet CL with plenty of space and plenty of service points.

A Very Well Managed CL

Our two short visits to this CL en-route to and from the Llyn Peninsula were both very enjoyable and it was good to find a site so well organised and managed. Communication was excellent with payments and comprehensive information available online. The arrival welcome was also well managed and the usual CL services all very satisfactory. Our only criticism was not of the site but of Shropshire County Council who have allowed nature to restrict the width of the pavement for much of the way into Ellesmere. We walked into town this way each day with our Labrador and the traffic passing so close to us on this narrow pavement was quite alarming at times. Unfortunately, the alternative access by footpaths with several stiles was not dog friendly. Access to parking for a motorhome in Ellesmere was very good but we usually prefer to walk or cycle on and off the sites we stay at. A very good CL in an excellent area for walking, cycling and eating and the best managed of all the many CLs we have visited.

Wonderful return visit

Another lovely week at Birch Hill. Beautiful surroundings, stunning views and plenty of room to spread out on this massive site. Ian and Janet always make us very welcome and Amber showed us her puppies! Ellesmere is a delightful little market town, lots of interesting shops as well as a superstore. Restaurants to suit all tastes! We visited National Trust properties locally and almost got blown off the Iron age hill fort at Oswestry – plenty to do. If you want a quiet CL, with well kept facilities, within reach of stunning countryside and lovely friendly and knowledgeable hosts, this is the place for you. We love it.

Lovely stay at a well located site

We booked this site last minute after having to change plans. Luckily it was available for our dates and we booked online using the new CL booking app. On arrival we were greeted by the owner and given a very detailed welcome brief. The site is very pretty and has lovely views. The pitch is hardstanding on grass. Plastic grating has been semi-buried into the ground, allowing the grass to grow through but giving a solid base. It looks nice and works reasonably well but was still very muddy due to the heavy recent rainfall. The site is very well located. A very short 1m walk to the local town of Ellesmere, which is very pretty and has a lovely lake (mere) and canal, so good walk options. A Tesco and many small local shops and restaurants are available in the town. We also drove to nearby Shrewsbury which is very pretty and a great day out. Overall very good, well located, well organised and very pretty. We will return and would recommend.

Sharing with Eunice

Arriving the night before Storm Eunice, Ian very kindly arranged for us to pitch up in a sheltered spot between his garage and office buildings. We consequently enjoyed 2 good nights sleep feeling safe and secure. Ian’s welcome together with his outstanding digital information app enabled us to maximise our visit despite the inclement weather. This is a lovely area to visit with plenty to do and see. We will definitely be back to explore its many attractions when it’s warmer and drier!

1st Class CL

We have just come back from our 1st stay at Birch Hill CL & we will definately be visiting again. The site is set in beautiful Shropshire countryside and is peaceful. The owner Ian, is friendly and helpful, on arrival we had a problem with our Van & Ian helped us find a local service engineer to sort out our problem. The site has 16amp hook up and excellent TV reception which to us is important on a dark winters night. The site also has free wifi which is good for general internet surfing and streaming. If you have a dog then Birch Hill is great and there is a dog walk on site called the "Dingle" which is a safe area to exercise your dog. Ian does ask that you keep your dog under control and be respectful to other guests which we totally agree with. The site is close to the village of Ellesmere which has a Tesco supermarket. You are also spoilt for choice with good pubs within a short drive as well as those in the village.
