We chose this site as our first trip out with our caravan after not having had one for over 15 years. Not too far from home if everything went wrong (vans have changed a lot in 15yrs) and it sounded easy to get to.
We couldn't have chosen better. We tried everything out in the van with no disasters. Dog, cat and chickens wandering about gave the site a very calm feel - we needed that on arrival. A very friendly welcome, pitches signposted discretely, lovely short mown grass, plenty of space with views over the fields.
Thank you for being just the CL we needed to show us what we had been missing.
Just what you need plus more
The welcome to this site was very thorough and made us feel right at home.
The site is beautiful and we felt that we were given every opportunity to share this place.
We met the gentleman owner who was very approachable from the initial phone call putting us at ease, 'take it easy and don't worry, if you forget anything! We caravan so can lend it to you'. That takes a little off your mind that youre going where they wish for you to enjoy the break without stress.
I was given a walk around the site to help choose a good plot and ensure any idiosyncrasies of each were discussed to ensure whichever chosen I wouldn't be left wondering.
Two welcome packs were made available. One with probable every flier from every business around the area, this helped plan any trips or meal. Second one was smaller with site background, emergency stickers with info in case of emergency services need. Very handy plus as was said great advert when you leave.
When you read the supplied documents you will understand why the welcome is so thorough (it was much appreciated)
With all this said you may think that this may of been a controlling site but it couldn't be further from the truth. The impression I received was this part is the caravan site, make your self at home, over there is the owners house please be respectful and a good neighbour.
What's there. Electric hookup.
Water is available from a few areas so you need a water container. (Honestly, there was only ourselves on the main site and if I'd of asked if I could connect to the tap for a constant feed, I doubt they would of refused)
Elsan point - yes its well away from the plots and I feel best place for poo dump area. There are two points at the elsan point.
Plenty of walking areas for dogs and humans.
Welcoming hosts, came over to welcome the whole family and our dog (I think also to make sure both the site dog and our own got on well)
Honey the site family dog was very nice. Rules - don't feed her (can you imagine how fat she would be if every visitor fed her plus it would be annoying for none doggy visitors to be pestered for food if she was used to this) plus don't let her in the caravan for the same reasons as above.
No showers or toilets - this not as a slight but a fact so people are aware. This was the first time my wife had used the shower or toilet in our caravan, result ?
The owners son was working hard on the saturday cleaning away leaves from the site. The whole site was immaculate including the not so pleasant task of clean the elsan point.
At £12 per night was great value.
Would I recommend it, yes
Will I go again, yes
so near yet (seemingly) so far away....
This is the most wonderful place to settle down for a time and relax. The site is easy to find, from clear directions, just a little way out of Ellesmere, but on arrival, it is so quiet and peaceful. The views are amazing, extending right out to Wrexham and beyond. The site is very well kept, with all facilities clearly labelled and clean. We loved the very warm welcome from Ian, Janet and James and of course, Honey (golden retriever) 'V' (cat) and the hens. Ian and Janet provide a very comprehensive pack of information about places to visit in the surrounding area. Even though we have been coming to the locality for many years, each time we have visited, we have managed to find something new to do. We have stayed here before, and we have every intention of returning. Thanks to Birch Hill team, for welcoming us yet again!
Just Great!
It's amazing how tranquil a place can be and yet have such easy access. Directions in handbook are very clear and the site is well signed off the main road. With 50 yards of wide lane you go into the private drive for the CL. Hedges well cut back and a tarmacked surface make the drive easy. The CL is on two levels. Bottom one is well protected by hedges whilst the upper one is open and has fantastic views. Both have EHU and some hardstanding. There is lots of choice over just where you pitch. First class welcome from owners and they give you a folder with local info in. So much to do in area especially for adults. e.g market towns, canals, nature reserves, craft centres, preserved railway. Excellent value at £12.
Peaceful Holiday with panoramic views.
If you like peace and quiet, generously spaced pitch, a warm welcome and plenty of info in an info folder for you and your dogs then you must visit this site! We enjoyed our stay so much we have booked in for another holiday. Plenty to do in area or not too far away. Lots of good eating houses and pubs, some on the banks of the river Dee. Good food, good beer, good CL - happy days! You will be made most welcome by the owners.

Brilliant CL
We have visited Birch Hill CL on several occasions and have just returned from our most recent visit. As always we found the site beautifully kept and were given a thorough tour of the CL when deciding where to pitch. There is plenty of choice of pitches which are spacious. The owner provides a very detailed information pack which we found really useful. We travel with our sausage dog who also loves this site. There is a short dog walk adjacent and we find this is the most 'dog friendly' site we stay on. Also, for people travelling with dogs, the Boathouse Restaurant and Cafe at Ellesmere welcomes well-behaved dogs inside which was great this trip as the weather was not particularly good at the beginning. We shall be returning to Birch Hill and would recommend it to other caravanners.

Superbly run site
We understand why this site has so many awards!!
Very well run , welcome thorough and included loads of information and site packs.
We only stayed one night so didn't get to visit much but there seems loads to do locally and we will return to investigate more.
Views lovely and quiet.
Only down points are that there is no walking from site for dogs without walking down busy roads ( which our dogs don't like) and pitches are a little out on the open rather than sheltered next to hedging. Probably just our personal preference rather than a criticism.

Great views
Excellent site, Quiet, lovely views, very clean and a pleasent place to stay. Near local shops for the morning paper.
Will definitely want to visit again. We stayed in September, the weather was fantastic. Would recommend to anyone who likes peace and quiet.
Simply Superb!
If you're looking for an immaculately kept CL this is it! Wonderful welcome, Ian the owner greeted us and was very informative about the local area, we were given a welcome pack of loads of tourist information, and a guide to the site which gives all the details we could possibly need. The site is within a 1 mile walk of Ellesmere, with loads of interesting places to visit close by. Lovely views from this very quiet site, Ian was very good at pointing out the local landmarks, he even pointed out Liverpool Cathedral which you can see on a lovely clear day.
It's definitely on our list to visit again in the not too distant future.
It was a pleasure to visit a CL with such high standards.
Wonderful find
What a wonderful find, enjoyed our stay very much and will look forward to returning there :-) very pretty and quaint area.
