The lure of ehu

Just come off a Rally on an all singing and dancing commercial site.   They did a deal where the ehu was optional @£3 p/n.   28 vans 25 paid for ehu.  We didn’t refilled the gas bottle after we got back and it cost me £4.51, the bottle had been used for 4  nights on a clubsite so ehu and 3 nights non-ehu so 7 nights in total.

No moral to this story just numbers.

Personally I think the suggestion by some that they're happy not to plug in is fine, it saves electricity and it should reduce site fees for those who choose to go without.

There was quite a bit of disappointment when the club insisted that everyone hook up for an inclusive fee at the National and enjoy the proximity of a noisy generator, to cover the costs no doubt.

Choice is a fine thing! smile

Absolutely agree. And on the KISS principle, surely allowing folk to decline EHU if they so wish would be a big step towards satisfying some. smile

We spend time in a gorgeous cottage on Dartmoor that is almost off grid. We got there a couple of years ago to find owner in a bit of a panic. It had been such a dry Summer the usual water supply had dried up for first time in living memory. We just told him for us it was part of the adventure, he was so relieved, said that some of his visitors would have gone home, made his life a misery. An hour after our arrival he had a bowser of fresh water sorted and had arranged with a borehole company to sort out something on the farm, so it couldnโ€™t happen again. We found the whole thing fascinating, all over Dartmoor boreholes were going in. Proof indeed that the climate is changing if the SW โ€œspongeโ€ is drying up! We had a glorious two weeks, never lacked for water for anything. All sorted. Hoping to get back this year.๐Ÿ˜

maybe those worried about the clubs finances could think whether 16 amp is really vital.

16 amp is not vital but, I suspect, that the saving in electricity between a 10 amp and 16amp EHU is generally fairly minimal. The biggest power user will be heating for most. I have 1kw, 2kw and 3kw options. I choose 2kw normally but 1 kw on a 10amp site. Do I use less power overall than on 16amp site? I doubt it is significant either way.

16 amp is nice in a cold winter and sub zero temps in daytime I reckon. The only time that I am likely to use a 3kw setting is at times, such as last December, when I set up on site and went to Morrisons to shop and get a lunch.

who has said they are worried about the finances of the club? Have I missed something? is the club in financial trouble?

But cut the amp to 4 or 6 amps and who will want to come to a club site when non club sites offer 16? Or would they come in the numbers are now? I think that a cut to 4/6 will lead to real reduction in income and therefore real financial trouble.

I don’t think the Club will be cutting the amps, it knows it’s target market. It’s interesting on CLs though, when you get a “trying CLs for first time” visitor. Most adapt fine, but you do get the odd outfit every now and then that blows a fuse on a 6 or 10 amp Site. It’s only practice and a bit of adaptation.

Sadly CS in some respects you are right.  We are currently on a lovely aires just on the outskirts of Palencia.  A very popular stop for Brit vans because of its location and distance to/from Santander and Bilbao.

The site has free low amperage power and most continentals don't bother but the large Brit contingent grab what they can.  It is really very sad with all the solar power available.  We have been stationary now for about 36 hours.  The nespresso has been in use, tablets and phones charged, and the van used as normal and still the batteries are showing fully charged.
