Hi everyone,

We wanted you to be the first to know about a new member offer with My Esso Card. The My Esso Card is a fuel card that provides savings at 1,300 Esso fuel stations to help drive down the cost of touring. Members are guaranteed to save on fuel at every Esso station across the UK with the only consumer facing fuel card.

We are the only organisation within the touring industry able to provide this offer to members.

What is the saving?

On average members will typically save 8p per litre on premium diesel or unleaded fuel and 5p per litre on standard diesel or unleaded fuel. That’s a typical saving of £5.60 per tank on premium fuel or £3.50 on standard fuel (based on 70 litre tank of fuel).

The saving varies based on the My Esso Card special rate and the Esso pump price rate. In the unlikely event that the pump price is lower than the My Esso Card special rate members are guaranteed to save 1p per litre on the pump price. You can use the My Esso Card to fill up all your vehicles, not just the one you tour with.

There are no fees to sign up and no transaction or processing fees. You can also earn your Tesco Clubcard points when filling up.

We are also running a competition for members for a chance to win free fuel.

To launch this great new offer, My Esso Card are giving Caravan and Motorhome Club members an exclusive chance to win free fuel. 10 lucky winners will win 175 litres of fuel and another 10 lucky winners 75 litres of fuel!  Members need to register for a card and fill by 31 December 2018 to be entered into the random prize draw.  Winners will automatically have the fuel credit added to their My Esso Card account.

To find out more about this member offer visit My Esso Card Member Offer on the Club website

MM, you have never lived!

As an impoverished teenager in 1971 I regularly put 10 bob's worth of 2* at 6/1d a gallon in my ancient Ford Pop.

To the uninitiated that is a shade over 30p per 4.5L and 10 bob is 50p today, so if anyone is curious enough I've given you enough to work it out for yourselves!wink

Must admit though, the old Pop, with side valve engine designed back in the '30s and 3 speed box with 2 low and 1 high gear struggled to pull itself up a hill. No chance with a van in tow!smile

I'm not old enough to have paid for fuel in £sd 😉

I remember putting 4 gallons (18L) in my old Mk2 Consul once a week for a quid. That was about 20% of my pay!

Anyone having trouble with PumpKing who do the administration for the card

I received an email last Thursday from them stating my card was blocked due to them unable to obtain funds from my bank. I checked with the bank, nobody had attempted to request funds, I emailed them back immediately explaining this. On Saturday I received a further email stating I would be charged a further £10.00 if they didn't get payment and my card would be rescinded.

They have yet to answer any of my emails especially were I asked for their bank details so I could pay the invoice and told them to keep the card as I didn't want to be involved in a company like theirs if this was the way they did business.

I phoned them today to sort it out I asked for accounts but you only get as far as the help desk as apparently Accounts won't take direct calls, they say they will get back to me, I hope they are quicker doing that than they are responding to emails

Hmmm. Are they allowed to charge for unsuccessful payment ? Doesn't mention that in their T&C's regarding unsuccessful payments.

Reading this they will make two attempts to collect payment. First for the original payment then again 3 working days later so if you had an email they would have tried twice first.

Question is and you probably won't get a response form Pump-King on this, is how do you make the payment to them. Do they just try again on your debit card?

Another thought is that their admin is such a shambles they may have tried to claim the money from someone else debit card or used completely the wrong details.

Anyway T&C's quote this

4.2 If Pump-King is unsuccessful in obtaining payment for a Fuel purchase through the Fuel Card from the Cardholder, it is entitled to block the Fuel Card immediately until the balance has been settled in full. 4.3 If after 3 Working Days, Pump-King or the Payment Service Provider is still unable to process the Cardholder's payment, Pump-King will take the following steps: (a) promptly send an electronic communication to the Cardholder to remind them to make the payment of the Fuel purchase; (b) after 5 Working Days, if the Cardholder has not paid for the Fuel purchase, Pump-King will send a follow up electronic communication to the Cardholder for payment of the Fuel purchase; (c) after 7 Working Days, if the Cardholder has still not paid for the Fuel purchase, Pump-King will begin a process to pursue the unpaid debt by appointing a debt collection company and will send an electronic communication to the Cardholder informing them of this appointment.

“promptly”, that’s a laugh when you see the word in the same sentence as Pump King!

Still can’t login to my account and don’t see much point in sending email no7. frown

So after two weeks, multiple emails to Pump-King with no response , multiple phone calls of which only one was answered, raising the issue on here, email with the club for which I had to chase twice, I have eventually received my refund for the duplicated debit.

No email apology from Pump-King, no offer of compensation as others got.

So now my account is straight do I carry on using the card? At the moment no as local Supermarket prices are cheaper than the offer price  but I will keep an eye on the prices as i did make savings before the admin shambles. I will keep the card in my wallet though as if I have to fill up at say a motorway service station it will be be useful. In the meantime the debit card registered now with pump-king is linked to an account with no money or overdraft.

Also doing a little searching I have found that the myessocard isn't exclusive to CAMC. There is a Caravan & Touring Facebook group where they were promoting it as well with a different referral code and you didn't need to be a member of CAMC to have it. So for the club to say 'Offer only available to Caravan and Motorhome Club (CAMC) members' might be seen as misleading as it is available elsewhere.

That is not the point!  The CC has advertised the card using false information!  We regularly top up with less than £20 as we live in a rural area and to up when we go into town once a week.

Pump King have probably tried to double dip and there were insufficient funds when they tried to take the same amount a second time or the bank block the same transaction from happening twice!
