Hi everyone,

We wanted you to be the first to know about a new member offer with My Esso Card. The My Esso Card is a fuel card that provides savings at 1,300 Esso fuel stations to help drive down the cost of touring. Members are guaranteed to save on fuel at every Esso station across the UK with the only consumer facing fuel card.

We are the only organisation within the touring industry able to provide this offer to members.

What is the saving?

On average members will typically save 8p per litre on premium diesel or unleaded fuel and 5p per litre on standard diesel or unleaded fuel. That’s a typical saving of £5.60 per tank on premium fuel or £3.50 on standard fuel (based on 70 litre tank of fuel).

The saving varies based on the My Esso Card special rate and the Esso pump price rate. In the unlikely event that the pump price is lower than the My Esso Card special rate members are guaranteed to save 1p per litre on the pump price. You can use the My Esso Card to fill up all your vehicles, not just the one you tour with.

There are no fees to sign up and no transaction or processing fees. You can also earn your Tesco Clubcard points when filling up.

We are also running a competition for members for a chance to win free fuel.

To launch this great new offer, My Esso Card are giving Caravan and Motorhome Club members an exclusive chance to win free fuel. 10 lucky winners will win 175 litres of fuel and another 10 lucky winners 75 litres of fuel!  Members need to register for a card and fill by 31 December 2018 to be entered into the random prize draw.  Winners will automatically have the fuel credit added to their My Esso Card account.

To find out more about this member offer visit My Esso Card Member Offer on the Club website

According to current legislation those T&Cs should still apply unless you have received notification of the change of the T&Cs and giving you the opportunity to accept them or return the card.

I'm tempted to try it by putting 6 litres of fuel in and seeing what happenswink

Just in case I misread this part in the latest T&Cs for agreeing to accept this Essofuel card I have re-checked .

I confirm that if applying today you are  agreeing now to be charged a surcharge of £1.00  for any transaction of fuel that is under under 15 Litres

I would ask why the club advertise this offer inferring that  this is a totally free of charge offer without any fees or costs involved ?

I wonder if any club representative could comment on this please Do the club agree and endorse  the card company in making this minimum spend surcharge and also endorse  the  company  to alter any terms and conditions originally stated without directly informing members already having received one of these cards

I don't think I've EVER bought less than 15 litres of fuel in 40 years of driving ..... 🤔

and if you needed to fill a gallon container you just wouldn't use the card.

Anyone having trouble with PumpKing who do the administration for the card

I received an email last Thursday from them stating my card was blocked due to them unable to obtain funds from my bank. I checked with the bank, nobody had attempted to request funds, I emailed them back immediately explaining this. On Saturday I received a further email stating I would be charged a further £10.00 if they didn't get payment and my card would be rescinded.

They have yet to answer any of my emails especially were I asked for their bank details so I could pay the invoice and told them to keep the card as I didn't want to be involved in a company like theirs if this was the way they did business.

I phoned them today to sort it out I asked for accounts but you only get as far as the help desk as apparently Accounts won't take direct calls, they say they will get back to me, I hope they are quicker doing that than they are responding to emails

Many are, I believe. Like you, when they are phoned they ask you to email them as it's quicker (ROTFL)

I would suggest you email the C&MC about this too?

See other posts in this thread, Harriston.

Some people have asked their banks to cancel their debit cards to prevent inappropriate payments being taken.

It seems waiting for a response could be a lengthy affair.

A shambles? You may very well think so.

Agreed on that , also same here towards  the amount  of fuel I would on average regularly buy !

But - My point being - Its not a completely free offer of  'any' fees or charges and  the offered saving  is subject to a minimum spend  - Why not state this in the clubs own recommendations in the  advertising details ?.

Also - it appears to have started with a minimum spend of 5 Litres.  It is now 15 Litres -( fair enough not an unreasonable large quantity perhaps)  BUT - presumably the fuel card company hypothetically have the cardholders full agreement at their discretion to ammend their T&Cs in the future   again if they want to increase this spend further - say by another 10 Litres . (The higher the minimum spend the more likely a £1 transaction surcharge can  then be taken by the card company on average   )

Cannot  say if this will happen but it is a classic example of read the small print that you agreeing to and to any changes towards any  minimum spend figure  and surcharge fees particularly in future with  any T&Cs you may be agreeing to commit to  !!

Taken from the original T&C's CaptK

9.1 These Terms and Conditions can only be amended if Pk Fuel Limited so agrees in writing by posting a notice on its website and/or by email notification to the Cardholder. Pk Fuel Limited will notify the Cardholder of any changes to these Terms and Conditions with 15 days' such prior written notice.

Needless to say, they have not notified me by email or, to my knowledge, posted anything about the recent changes on their website about the changed T&C's, so they are at fault IMO.

It's been a lot longer than 15 days too undecided

MM, you have never lived!

As an impoverished teenager in 1971 I regularly put 10 bob's worth of 2* at 6/1d a gallon in my ancient Ford Pop.

To the uninitiated that is a shade over 30p per 4.5L and 10 bob is 50p today, so if anyone is curious enough I've given you enough to work it out for yourselves!wink

Must admit though, the old Pop, with side valve engine designed back in the '30s and 3 speed box with 2 low and 1 high gear struggled to pull itself up a hill. No chance with a van in tow!smile
